Email this morning:

Say hello to our new Edits: Let it Glow, Skin Essentials, and The Self Care Kit! Perfect as last-minute stocking fillers or a little treat for yourself. Each kit comes with a guaranteed Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream and Fragrance Kit (individual samples of 1.5ml) all for just £30.

Hurry—stock won’t last long!

Not a surprise!!

I see the 1 star review has mysteriously disappeared and 7 new stellar reviews have magically appeared overnight.

What a joke!

MrsBnow12 · 14/12/2024 13:30

Just had a look at BBC website and they have removed the pamper kit from their website and the bad review with it.

IlovePond · 14/12/2024 14:16

The more I hear about BBC, the more shocked I am🙀

I think the main issue is that the marketing makes it seem more luxe than it is and because they are trying to do the beauty luxe thing it's less than transparent. If they were fully honest about the business model then it would seem less high end beauty and more Home Bargains which I assume it why they don't want to be.

Essentially it's a bit like those sites that sell off boxes of Amazon returns, Approved Foods who sell close to expiry stuff or Tkmaxx. If you knew that upfront it's okay even with short dated products but I bet a lot of customers don't quite realise what it is. Tbh if it wasn't for this thread I might not have even thought to look at the exp dates if I'd come across the website and randomly purchased.

Of course removing any critical reviews means nobody is fully informed. The worst thing has been the misleading marketing. I hope they don't do that again but I imagine most of us won't re-buy so we won't ever know.

I'd be interested to know how big this weekends CT cream is - the pot in the video looks like it could be 30ml or more but I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually one of the 15ml minis. Of course it doesn't actually say anywhere (or it didn't when I looked). If it is a large pot chances are the date will be short. Again if you know this prior to buying it's less of an issue because you could use up a pot of cream in 3-5 months but if you don't look and stick it in a cupboard for later then you have a problem.

HollyGolightly4 · 14/12/2024 15:24

Yeah, I bought the black Friday box and was quite happy - there's no way I'm buying from them again though!

Puravida23 · 14/12/2024 15:55

For me the misleading marketing was the nail in the coffin for purchasing from BB again. I am fascinated by the promo video of the CT fragrance set as it showed someone unboxing a discovery box Where did it come from? Did they buy it especially to produce their promo? Is there one person out there who did get the discovery set box?
If it had just been ambiguous wording using the word discovery set I might have been more forgiving but this looks set up to mislead
Also I am not happy about the deleted reviews so that's it I am out . There are plenty of other more trustworthy companies who I can give my money to so no loss here

Puravida23 · 14/12/2024 16:01

As for the CT cream advertised it could be a 2ml sachet for all we know . Just because you see a product doesn't mean they will deliver I think we have all learnt that lesson now😂

Growlybear83 · 14/12/2024 16:09

@OvaHere I got a Charlotte Tilbury magic cream that was advertised in one of the recent mystery boxes and it was a 15ml pot. I assume the one this weekend will be the same.

The misleading way BBC have advertised the last kit has really put me off ordering again. I accept that mistakes happen but I don't like being lied to and told that I'm the only person who had complained, when I had already told them in my email that I was aware of several other people who had written to complain. I'm also angry that my review was removed - I thought the response BBC had made to my feedback was very reasonable and showed that they had taken the criticism on board, so I don't think there was any need to delete it.

Despite everything, to have now got the mystery box for £15 plus P&P is really good value, although I'll be interested to see if we all have to chase the refund.

OvaHere · 14/12/2024 16:12

I did wonder that. I'll be keeping an eye out. Easily overlooked the week before xmas.

If they have deal with CT to offload overstock and short exp products it's possible CT send them some of their existing footage to use. Complete guess on my part I don't know if it works like this.

AmateurExpertSkincare · 14/12/2024 17:11

I think with the multiple examples of deleting reviews and the misleading/false advertising they are lucky they haven’t been reported to trading standards at this stage. Have pinged my email off now hopefully I will get the same resolution as yourselves 🤞🏼

OchonAgusOchonOh · 14/12/2024 17:16

If they're deleting reviews off the site, you can always post a review on trust pilot. They can't delete that.

JamJarBinx · 14/12/2024 18:00

I'm new to the thread I've just come from the christmas one. I bought the pamper box and a glow box which arrived yesterday. Also recieved the mismatched shower gel and body lotion but between the two boxes I recieved 5 jurlique all woth dates before June. I emailed them and they said they would give me £10 partial refund which I did not agree to but have had an email saying I'm receiving it.

Sorry you got caught up in it too. I'm guessing you're not that magical one person who got the CT perfume in a box then! 😂

Still not heard from anyone who actually got the hand set either and there's quite a few of us now. Did they only have about 5 of them? Or any at all?

I had the black friday box too which was delayed in being dispatched because they had a box of water damaged murad sets. They were eventually upfront with this(after I asked what was happening) and offered to refund me and send an apology gift or replace with two full size products. So I don't think I believe there ever was hand sets because how do you get the numbers so wrong and why not contact us?

diamondsandrose · 14/12/2024 19:38

They will hopefully be working through the night to sort out all their nonsense.

My issue with them was by how rudely they replied to my complaint about products that ( annoyingly )did not state a use by date , but I knew immediately on opening were stale. They were really defensive about it .

The customer service person accused me of being sarcastic in my email!! I was totally confused as to why they would say that , mostly because I hadn't used any sarcasm at all . Fair enough if I had ... But then even if I had it was not their place to say 😜 I was pretty taken aback .

Puravida23 · 14/12/2024 19:59

I have just received notification of my refund . I agree with you @AmateurExpertSkincare . I think BB have been sailing very close to the wind in regards to trading standards. (Although haven't checked it out ) I actually thought this is why we are now getting these refunds so quickly. They want to close this mess down as quick as possible with as little fuss as possible and move on .

IlovePond · 14/12/2024 21:06

Lots of the Elemis dupes and the La Mer nut oil dupe in the huge Aldi j just visited, plus the LED tools and a few jars of cleanser that I hadn’t seen before, plus the CT dupe eyeshadow palette. No sign of the gold La Mer dupe, unsurprisingly!

Branster · 14/12/2024 21:51

Imagine if they did send the Jurlique hand set as advertised, and some of us gifted it as intended with such a short expiry date! Most embarrassing. I don't often check expiry dates so it would have been most embarrassing. I'm glad I didn't order 2 boxes.
I don't use shower gel, DD and DS don't like lavender (or rose). DH uses whatever's available as long as it is in a squeeze bottle, not a pump bottle. I might decant it and mix it with whatever he currently has on the go. Or maybe use it as hand wash.

I'm surprised they agreed to decent resolutions relatively quickly with those of you who complained. That's very good.
But it still leaves the question of why did they put themselves in such a compromising situation.
Maybe they expanded this mystery box side too quickly, without being careful about compliance requirements? Maybe it's not a very important part of their business?
They're only small and I admire all businesses, especially when run by women, which grow and do well. But I really don't like lying. They will never gain back the trust they lost, or were hoping to gain with new customers, yesterday.
I don't want them to close down because I'd consider using them again after a serious break. I like the brands they include and I tried lots of products I never heard of and did like them, or products I was curious about but didn't want to try on full price as an experiment.
I really hope they'll become more transparent and advertise truthfully. Not a full reveal, but when they promote x product they must deliver x product as advertised.
The reviews are clearly , at most, half true, not a huge surprise. But it did give me a bad taste seeing it with my own eyes.
Interestingly, their instagram wasn't very active yesterday.
So, at present, I've fallen out of love with bbc. not irremediably yet, but it's very close. If Blissim ever come to the UK they'd my first choice for a replacement.
