What gym trainers are de rigeur at the moment?

I have had my Adidas gym trainers for so long and need to replace them. I wear my trainers for walking and working out at the gym.

I would really appreciate some recommendations. Thanks.

Hoka seem to be popular at the moment

AndCoronets · 17/11/2024 07:22

Hoka, though I'm not a fan of the look of them.
Really though, I know this is S+B, but if you are using them for exercise, then the best trainers are the ones which fit your foot type. As someone who has foot issues, don't mess with your foot health, it's not worth it.
I wear Asics although I don't particularly like the way they look and Merrells for walking.

StuntNun · 17/11/2024 08:00

What kind of workout are you doing? You need different shoes for the treadmill than if you're lifting weights.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2024 08:03

Yes, what @AndCoronets said. If you can, maybe go somewhere that does gait analysis, especially if you do a lot of walking.

Nike metcons for lifting

CharlotteSometimes1 · 17/11/2024 08:06

I wouldn’t use the same trainers for walking and the gym.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 17/11/2024 08:07

I swear by my ASICS ~ have tried Hoka and don't think they're worth the hype.

DieStrassensindimmernass · 17/11/2024 08:08

Hoka trainers are the new Rab jackets where I live.
Seriously, decide on function rather than brand.

boygirlcatdog · 17/11/2024 09:05

I wear Hoka as they offer lots of support. I like them but probably wouldn't be my favourite based purely on aesthetic

FourEyesGood · 17/11/2024 09:11

I fell for the Hoka hype and don’t like them anywhere near as much as my old Salomon trainers.

Kaffiene · 17/11/2024 09:15

I walk in New Balance, run in ASICS, gym in Nike metcon or gazelles. We need some more detail here.

WithIcePlease · 17/11/2024 09:48

Metcons for lifting. I will wear them to supermarket next to the gym but not for general walking. General walking - I find most fashion trainers on pavement are fine for a good few kilometres - like NB 327, pumas, hoff city. Country walking I use Nike trail running shoes. I have Asics gel for running on treadmills or pavement.

Hmph …

I would not be pleased to know people were using gym equipment dressed in their dirty outdoor trainers …

head2toeinuniqlo · 17/11/2024 10:12

I run in the gym (on the treadmill) so need trainers that are suitable for both. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

😂😂😂 give over! I do have gym only trainers but I have to wear them outside to get there. I also wear every day trainers. You're living in dreamland if you think people aren't bringing dirt in. It's everywhere.

LoveSandbanks · 17/11/2024 10:37

For the gym, I wear vivobarefoot trainers. You can use them for the treadmill or outside running but I over pronate so don’t.

This is absolutely happening. Baffling you thought it wasn't tbh.

Seventimesaday · 17/11/2024 12:38

Well a quick glance round at my gym last week confirmed that Crocs or Converse seem to be in fashion!

Of course you don't 'have to', you could change shoes when you get there.Confused

And do what with my outdoor trainers? They'd still be touching the floor and spreading all the germs! It's a completely unreasonable expectation.

I don't think I've ever been to a gym which didn't have a changing room with lockers - that's where people change shoes (and leave outdoor coats etc) even if they've come in gym kit.

Can’t see the issue? You’re not eating your dinner or touching the treadmill surface with your bare hands! 🤷‍♀️

I just have running trainers, same ones for outside or treadmill.

But if you walk in with outdoor shoes and walk out with indoor shoes, you're still mixing germs.

I'm not paying for a locker or padlock because you can't stand the idea of germs where feet go.

It’s a bit grim putting outside shoes in a locker. I see shoes in lockers all the time not in a bag. I put my bag in lockers, hope there’s no outside germs being transmitted 😁
