Looking for your favourite British skincare brands, made in the UK and with good ethics, employing local people especially. Can anyone recommend anything? Bonus points if it's budget friendly! Thank you 😊

Just thought of another couple!! - Gruum and also UpCircle Beauty.

From what I've read Gruum products are mostly (but not all) made in the UK.

UpCircle I've not tried but it gets good reviews online.

I’ve tried Upcircle eye cream, exfoliating soap and serum for the face. All very good.

Lush, if you'd consider them a skincare brand.

I’m a recent convert to Odylique. I use the spf as a daily face cream and have stopped using foundation because it’s made my skin so even, and somehow shrunk my pores. And the natural deodorant is the first I’ve had that actually works. Haven’t tried the other products yet but have high hopes.

Elemis

Not all of their products are made in the UK. They're also not cruelty-free as they sell in China hence they do animal testing. I don't think that fits with @fuckthemail 's "good ethics" requirement.

Yes this is definitely how I feel... Also just dubious about brands that spend millions on marketing, would rather the money is spent more on the product and the people who make it....

Lush also unsure. Heard dubious things about how employees are treated in factories and in-store too.

Smaller companies are more what I was after for all the above reasons. Will have a good look through it all

I think facetheory are local to Sheffield. I like some of their serums. Their price point seems reasonable. I don’t know anything about their ethics

Justwantosay · 16/11/2024 22:36

Highland Soap Company.

Apolloneuro · 17/11/2024 11:49

I’m gutted about Elemis losing their cruelty free status, as their cleansing balm was my favourite.

Just in case you didn’t know@fuckthemail brands are often disingenuous about their testing. They will claim not to test products on animals, when in fact they either pay other people to or buy ingredients that have already been tested.

I always check on sites like ethical elephant or cruelty free kitty. Don’t rely on brands websites.

Ren is now owned by Unilever so that may not remain the case
