Title says it all really [sigh]

Last time I was on a beach holiday was in another century, when I was size 8 and toned. I have no idea what to wear now

(but I got it for £20 from tk maxx)

Mrs Badger 9how the devil are you? it's growing bagpuss here!), I think I may need your travel list for going to Malta in a months time... very helpful.

perhaps i will start a thread on how to be organised when I go back to work next week..... i could do with your input. I remember the one photo you posted, very lovely, yet I always think of you as Mrs Beeton. (as in.. ma beeton's cookery book) (..... runs away)

brimfull · 24/04/2008 20:03

that's lovely bogie

I look shite in black though

KristinaM · 24/04/2008 21:58

oh bogie that IS lovely

Mrs badger - your packing list is clearly for slim gorgous young woman, not fat old bag . anyway I thought you were pg? why are you not fat?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 24/04/2008 22:03

the same applies for fatties except maybe the short skirts (note I do not recommend shorts even for sylphs) and the bikinis

and pregnant was last summer, Kristina

sagpuss there is no way to be organized when going back to work
even I (I) end up eating toast while driving and putting on makeup in the carpark
it's hell but you develop coping mechanisms (just like having a newborn in fact )

Oliveoil · 24/04/2008 22:04

you can wear whatever the hell you want on the beach

figures will vary from Giselle to Dawn French anyhoo

I would say tankini rather than swimsuit (although I have been told that tankinis are 'out' )

kaftan rather than sarong imo, they screech "I have a huge flabby arse, don't look at meeeeeeeeeeeeee"

MrsBadger · 24/04/2008 22:07

sarong is on packing list as makeshift beach blanket / shawl / third long skirt

not as a coverup

Oliveoil · 24/04/2008 22:09

okey dokey then

as you were

do you remember articles saying you could wear them in the evening as an outfit...?

mine always fell off

Make sure your well strapped in, I normally end up running around the beach all day with half a boobs out - I'm a bit buxom too. DH (bless) says this is all anyone would be looking at anyway so doesn't matter about the rest (i'm sure this is cost saving measure on his part).
So there is nothing else for it but to go with the flow - there's always someone else who looks far worse anyway, and we all look better with a tan.
Kitchen is v. nice by the way so you can always gloat about that at every oppurtunity!

Thomcat · 24/04/2008 22:27

this??

Joash · 24/04/2008 22:28

in answer to thread title - a thin, younger man - would certainly boost the ego

TracyK · 24/04/2008 22:30

I wore the same things every day last year. White linen trousers, white linen combats, jade lineny type kaftan with a bit of glitter on neckline, camisoles with a white linen (short or long sleeved) shirt open over the top. And sometimes just jeans - pretended to be a local.
I must be more adventurous this year.

KristinaM · 25/04/2008 16:03

Thank you all for ideas. Did a quick reccy around shops today while searching for birthday presents.

Saw lots of stuff in Accessorise and H&M. Will check out Matalan and primark, as i'm going to go with the ££££££ steel reinforced swim wear covered up with the cheap and cheerful kaftans and accesorised with new beach bag and sparkly flip flops.

Am i allowed a black wafty kaftan thing? they have nice ones in next and accesorise. Or does it say " i am fat woman trying to look slim"?????

fitted under norks

also tried on swimsuits in Bravissimo but they only had a few in - summer selection not in yet, apparently

will pluck up the courage to order from figleaves , as instructed

Thomcat - that is perfect! And vertical stripes are so slimming

tracey - i think that topless is not a good look at family resort, let alone with large Bf norks. so will give just jeans a miss. liking the jade kaftan idea - jade a good summer colour for me

joash - sadly the only thin younger males i will be wearing are two and three yo DSs. DH ( bless him) is neither younger nor thinner. But he has many other wonderful qualities

A big smile Remember there is nobody better than you!

I would go for a long light flowing skirt and a swimming custom

a few summers ago I was a size 26/28 and wore a skirt like this this so when you walk down to the beach you dont feel like anyone is watching then when you sit down you can either pull it up to get the sun on your legs or just slip it off its elasticated round the waist so easy also I got mine in a size bigger so sat nicely

Have a lovely holiday and do what makes you feel best

TLSM · 25/04/2008 16:18

also this dress is really nice (just seen your a size 16 so not really a fat girl) this one I have just bought this for the same purpose will be a size 18 this summer

Anushka · 25/04/2008 20:49

Ohh I like the sandals on that page TLSM - just what I've been looking for, thanks, trip to Next tomorrow.
