Stylish Christmas Sweater to last for years

Doggymummar · 06/10/2024 14:03

I have the usual plastic tat Christmas sweaters, bought precovid for the dreaded office Christmas jumper day. But I've worked from home now for half a decade and deserve something beautiful that will suit, flatter and look festive on Zoom and out and about. I can just see tat in all the shops.

I will be online shopping. I saw one on woolovers which is grey and subtle but it's a cardigan, and I'm a 34hh chest and cardigans are not my friend, it needs to be v neck and preferably green and orange to match the rest of my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. I have time so ordering from overseas is an option. Preferably under £150

The makers of Fair Isle knitwear get often dragooned in the annual horror of "Christmas jumpers" because the colours and patterns are vauguely Christmasy. I almost feel bad suggesting this but at least they aren't tat.

Here's a selection of Fair Isle knitwear, which could, if you have to, be pressed into service. Although all of it is far too lovely to only appear as a "Christmas jumper"

I'm not sure I see a big difference between a V neck sweater and a cardigan with buttons unbuttoned so these are a mixture of cardigans, v necks and tank tops.

Thank you, I looked at Fair isle, but not these makes. Unfortunately no v necks. If you had big boobs you would get the difference. Buttons never sit nicely on cardigans and they gape. You couldn't be naked underneath. Cardigans always look scruffy. Unless turned around to be a v neck jumper, which is great for zoom, but not for real life.

I can't help on the Christmas jumper search but totally agree about the neckline. I'm a 34FF and cardigans look bloody dreadful on me, with gaping buttons and just frumpy. Crew necks make me look top heavy so I'm permanently on the hunt for v neck jumpers which are by far the most flattering for my shape.

Unfortunately v neck festive jumpers are hard to come across in my experience. I agree with getting something vaguely festive patterned that can do throughout autumn and winter rather than being overly christmassy.

Thanks, it's a cross I bear!! I'll keep looking

Well I strongly disagree about cardigans being scruffy. None of the cardigans in the links I posted are scruffy- quite the opposite.

There were v necks but maybe you're looking for a deeper v. So far as being naked, I would always wear a vest, camisole or t shirt under a jumper or cardigan.

I've looked at every one of those @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle and they are glorious. I loved them.

Garlicbest · 06/10/2024 20:26

I found some very vague contenders at Roman, but suspect they haven't got what you're looking for. This is surprising - you might be a bit early, as most places have still got end of season sales.

In general, it does look like women's Fair Isle sweaters only come with high necks this year You can have a V-neck if it's sleeveless, or if you're a man! How do you do with men's jumpers, OP? If they're okay for you, you'll have a lovely choice of high-quality knits.

When it's Christmas jumper day I wear a shiny, glittery looking jumper. I have two which I can't link because I've had them ages. One's M and S, one's Oasis. No Christmas pattern but they do the job.

Dropped shoulders though (sigh) 😔 Another no/no for those of us with tits.

🚨mens, over budget but the right colour.

Not sure why you take it so personally, you're not the knitter or maybe you are? Please make some v necks if you are. They look scruffy when you have big boobs.

Price is fine, thank you, I have some mens cashmere, but they don't sit right on voluptuous figures unfortunately. I was hoping at that price point to find something sexy and festive.

I have multiples of cheap jumpers, I'm looking for an heirloom piece, thanks though.

Yeah I have some mens jumpers, but I'm looking fore something special this year. It's likely to be the last jumper I buy so I want it just right and to pass it on when I am no longer around. Thanks for looking though. I'm going to check some Nordic brands.

I know this isn't v neck but I think it would work for large boobs.

I'm blessed in the boob dept myself so totally get it.

A heirloom piece?? It's a jumper, not a work of art! 🤣🤣

It's a completely normal phrase when you talk about clothing. Confused As is 'fast fashion' for example but maybe you haven't heard of that either and you are going to come out with 'it's a jumper not a burger 🤣🤣k

And this is style and beauty where people are supportive and they are talking about clothes and not being cows to one another.

Radiolala · 07/10/2024 07:33

I had a nice one from white stuff years ago that was very subtle nod to the season but it was a round neck so not sure if that would work (I have the opposite issue). Worth a look?

Isonthecase · 07/10/2024 09:44

My standard is to go to a vintage shop and try a few. Loads of colours to choose from and they're all good enough quality to have lasted. Do you have anyone that could make the trip for you?

Turnitoffnonagain · 07/10/2024 10:19

How about a quality red or dark green cashmere v neck with a big blingy necklace?
I think the fair isle or scandi jumpers are beautiful, but they just don't flatter everyone (large ish boobs here).
