Stylish Christmas Sweater to last for years

Doggymummar · 06/10/2024 14:03

I have the usual plastic tat Christmas sweaters, bought precovid for the dreaded office Christmas jumper day. But I've worked from home now for half a decade and deserve something beautiful that will suit, flatter and look festive on Zoom and out and about. I can just see tat in all the shops.

I will be online shopping. I saw one on woolovers which is grey and subtle but it's a cardigan, and I'm a 34hh chest and cardigans are not my friend, it needs to be v neck and preferably green and orange to match the rest of my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. I have time so ordering from overseas is an option. Preferably under £150

Well I strongly disagree about cardigans being scruffy. None of the cardigans in the links I posted are scruffy- quite the opposite.

There were v necks but maybe you're looking for a deeper v. So far as being naked, I would always wear a vest, camisole or t shirt under a jumper or cardigan.

I am big busted but going to give the cardis you posted a shot bc I think they look lovely.

i hear you OP on finding something that suits body proportions and hits the festive mark. I have no recommendations but following with great interest

How about this? It's not a "Christmas jumper" but is a beautiful dark green so looks seasonal

A lovely Fair Isle woollen one from the Croft House. Can be warn post Christmas too as it's a Fair Isle sweater. Had mine for about 4-5 years now and still looks really good.

Made in Scotland from proper wool, no nasty acrylic etc. www.thecrofthouse.com

I know you said you don't like cardigans but I'm a 34G & a lot depends on the style eg I cannot wear a classic fit cardigan with a small crew/round neck. But v-necked jumpers aren't ideal either on me either.

I think this green cardigan would be lovely for a more elevated look and is more of a relaxed fit which would definitely work for me.

I don't have a big bust (and do like a cardi!) but I got a beautiful mohair knit from the H&M/Erden collab on Vinted a few years ago. It's scandi/fairisle style in reds and pinks, and not a "Christmas jumper" per se, but definitely fits the bill in terms of something that can be worn for years and not just over the festive season. Mine is a crew neck which I know you don't like, but might be worth seeing what else was in that collection.

Something like this OP?

Have a look at the gorgeous Ralph Lauren fair isle jumpers and tank tops on Vinted. Some of the 2nd hand wool and alpaca ones are within budget. Way over budget if you buy new. I have one that I bought at a vintage fare and it’s absolutely beautiful. A classic.

Would a quarter-zip left open work as v neck?

Or sleeveless? There's loads of them.

Yep those are great thank you v much

Thank you. I scoured Vinted and there was nothing in my size but agree it's a great place to look

That website won't load on my tablet, but I will try on my computer tomorrow, I quite like it but would like to explore more

A heirloom piece?? It's a jumper, not a work of art! 🤣🤣

Why has style and beauty gone horrible? This is normally the nicest board

The navy, Bella Freud Fairy-Tale of New York jumper is lovely but £££. Might be worth checking on vinted though.

Chinti & Parker have done some nice ones in the past too.

That's not v neck I fortunately. Yes I'm waiting on on Chinti ones, they don't seem to have arrived yet.

Speaking as a knitter, OP, you are going to struggle to find a traditional Nordic or Shetland fair isle jumper with stranded colour work in a v-neck. This is because of the construction of the garment; they are worked in the round with a flat round yoke and it's almost impossible to work a v-neck. The cardigans are knitted similarly and then carefully seamed and cut open through a process called 'steeking'.

I would encourage you to try a few with round necks as you may be pleasantly surprised (I do empathise as I am a JJ cup, but I don't share your love for v-necks. They make me feel like I've just been Trinny-and-Susannahed in 2002).

Itabsolutelyispossible · 07/10/2024 22:33

Sorry, I have just seen that the one I posted is a cardigan - thought it was a jumper!
