Wide leg jeans - are these any good?

Finally managed to get hold of some in Long. 2 different sizes (not much difference tbh)
What do you think?
I think they fit me well but don't particularly flatter me.

Apologies for the skimpy base layer, I wanted to show the fit. I'd wear with a jumper that ends just below the waist.

I think the first pic suits you the best really.
Personally I'm not sure what I think about this style of jeans really, a bit bland ? Not much shape ?

JaneJeffer · 05/10/2024 13:39

They look too big for you

MuchasSmoochas · 05/10/2024 13:40

They don’t look wide leg, they look bootleg. Go for wider at the bottom, you have a lovely shape at the top.

piccolorhinoceros · 05/10/2024 13:41

I think they're nice, I actually prefer the middle photo. Can you try them on with a baggier jumper and shoes?

ANagsHead · 05/10/2024 13:44

They are rather bland. I think you could try something wider - maybe slightly flared, to give an hourglass shape from your shoulders to feet. That way you’d have a more dramatic silhouette if you wear them with a jacket.

Isn't bootleg fitted around the thigh? These are loose all the way down.

This is more the shape I wear (when not skinnies). Fitted well around the hip, upper thigh and then flaring out from the knee. I might just stick to what suits me.

I will...when I can get DS2 to humour me to take more photos!

Why do the youngsters look so good in them?

I've got quite a few wide legs in non jeans fabric and they look good (I think!).

I think they are too big. Mine fot snugly around the waist and then skim.past my hips on the way down. Yours are too loose on waist and don't touch your hips.

MorrisZapp · 05/10/2024 14:10

I'm thinking of starting a Spartacus thread for MNers who want to return to slim and skinny jeans. My own repeated attempts to modernise my jeans look have made me look lumpy, dumpy and a stone heavier.

I've gone back to skinnies and I've seen plenty of other stylish women still wearing them so if I look 'dated' then I'll be dated with an actual shape.

chocolaterevels · 05/10/2024 14:14

I think you could go down a size?

Also not sure indigo looks the best in this style of denim. IMO a slightly lighter blue or charcoal grey looks nice.

Where are they from?

I'm also trying to find jeans like this that work for me as I actually don't suit skinnies at all. But struggling to find any that feel just right.

Ohright01 · 05/10/2024 14:16

They look too big on the waist and probably a bit big all over.

Yes you’re right, I’m not sure now what I’d call them. They have boyfriend jeans legs and fitted waist. I think you are wearing non binary jeans. 😉

AllAboutNiamh · 05/10/2024 14:20

I think they’re too dark. Wide legged jeans look better in a lighter wash.

kelspin · 05/10/2024 14:23

I think they look nice, looks like the ones in the first pic fit you better.
I've recently bought myself some wide leg jeans for the first time in years and like you I was a bit unsure at first but I love them now and have bought myself another pair in a different colour

bitsalty · 05/10/2024 14:24

I don't think they're wide enough, they look like a too baggy straight leg to me but as the PP said, that could also be the colour.

They're longer than I'd wear them too.

You could definitely find better.

StormingNorman · 05/10/2024 14:25

They look like too big straight legs. You look quite petite and I think something more fitted around the waist and hips would suit you.

Veritysaysmaybe76 · 05/10/2024 14:28

Fwiw I like the classic colour but I think they are a bit big for you on the thigh and leg.

You have a lovely figure and these don't do you justice!

If you look at the front facing photos, down by where your hand is falling, you can see a bulge which is the fabric and not you!

It's a pain I know as these are nearly right but you need a smaller thigh and a thinner leg and I suggest a slightly lighter more stretchy denim which is less stiff.

Good luck on your quest!

Finding a brand and cut of jeans that suits is a full time job! 😀

Lighttodark · 05/10/2024 14:33

Hi OP, I think they look fine, not the most flattering but I think that’s the style not you. They will look better once styled as an outfit. I prefer cropped boxier shapes on top for jeans like this because that way you see the smallest part - the waist.

Lighttodark · 05/10/2024 14:34

The fit in first pic is best, the others look big on waist.

widelegenes · 05/10/2024 14:49

Conclusion - return them!

Thanks all.
They do look more like an oversized straight leg.
I'm going to stop ordering online and try and get to the shops.
They're M&S.
I'm not petite - tall and slim/athletic.

I've yet to find a wide leg jeans that suits me I'm petite 5ft2 I thought I'd found the ones mango Catherine high waist culotte, full length on me, had anyone who's a petite got these, they fit so good on bum waist, but I think the legs are too wide for me the wider part at bottom is 11.5 inches it could be that I've lived in skinnies to long that I just can't get used to them , I have wide leg trouser that I like but they are more flowing.

AuntieDolly · 05/10/2024 16:22

Slight hijack, but has anyone tried the Halara jeans? thehalara.co.uk/products/2024-230982?pmui=24.1.index.best-seller.1.home&pmuih=home&promo=index.best-seller.1&variant=2574611
Or are they naff?

ANagsHead · 05/10/2024 16:40

There’s always a Halara hijack …

On almost every thread.
