DH says its too much. Hoping to wear it to 3 weddings... its so over my usual budget so...
Catholic church/smart hotel
Outdoor wedding /barn next spring
Chapel /Hotel wedding by the sea in Summer

And any suggestions of how to make it suitable.

Is this too "gowny" for a wedding?

Absolutely stunning. A real bombshell dress

Awrite · 08/09/2024 21:49

I think it's lovely and I would happily wear it to a wedding.

Go for it.

DayDreamer324 · 08/09/2024 21:50

It's a striking dress.. too much?
Hell no, where what you feel great in. Not like it's a white dress

thefirstmrsrochester · 08/09/2024 21:52

I think it is a beautiful dress which can easily be dressed up, down and accessorised for each of the wedding events you will be attending.

Chewbecca · 08/09/2024 21:52

Great dress but full length is a bit much for those events for me.

Youmwarayoum · 08/09/2024 21:52

I don’t think it works for the barn wedding but ideal for the other two!

EmeraldIsla · 08/09/2024 21:52

I’ll be the counter argument - beautiful dress, but I do think it would be too much and/or the wrong vibe for the weddings you describe. It’s black tie really.

HundredMilesAnHour · 08/09/2024 21:55

It's a lovely dress but I don't think it's appropriate for any of those 3. Too much skin on show for a catholic church, same with a chapel and it's not exactly saying outdoor/barn either. It's an evening dress.

If you love it, buy it but I don't think you can use the weddings as a reason for getting it.

BrieHugger · 08/09/2024 21:55

Lovely dress but not right for a barn wedding, and not sure about the third one either. I think if you definitely want to wear the same dress for all three you need something less formal.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 08/09/2024 21:56

Too much imo

Lavenderandbrown · 08/09/2024 21:57

You can wear anything as long as you wear it with confidence With that I agree possibly but only possibly too dressy for a barn wedding but I have been to some very fancy barn weddings. Buy it wear it it’s gorgeous. And another opportunity may pop up and you will have this lovely already in your closet. . I like buying one perfect dress perfectly accessorized and wearing to multiple events. You can always put out feelers on the barn wedding via bride or MOB or MOG as to the dress code. It’s fun to dress up and think it’s a sign of celebrating the bride and groom to really do it up.

NewName24 · 08/09/2024 21:58

Beautiful dress, but is an evening dress, for a black tie event, not a guest at a wedding dress.

This.

Wineandcupcakes · 08/09/2024 22:01

It would be fine if shorter, but full length in this style makes it an evening dress for a black tie event, so no, it’s not suitable

TheChosenTwo · 08/09/2024 22:01

I think it’s really beautiful and wish I had the arms to do it justice myself!
Think you might need something over your arms for the Catholic Church but fine at the hotel, may be a bit overdressed for the barn wedding but people will be in all sorts and you’d know if it was hugely informal anyway (you know, if the invite said something “dress down, come in jeans”), and would be fine again for the third wedding.
It’s really elegant I think, not ‘too much’ at all.

Whenthechipshitthefan · 08/09/2024 22:02

Good argument on both sides...
I guess I don't think there's one dress for them all.. I just really like this one so I was hoping! Can't justify spending that much for one wedding and I don't go to many black tie events!

lol. There is a huge gap between jeans and a full, length gown for black tie events 😂

If you took it up to mid calf it would work. But full length I’m afraid will look over dressed.

NashvilleQueen · 08/09/2024 22:04

I think it's for a black tie event rather than a welding. And the bottom will get in a right mess in a barn.

LizLooney · 08/09/2024 22:04

Yes sorry too much. Annoying when DPs get this stuff right!

Magpiesalute · 08/09/2024 22:05

It’s lovely, do you mind me asking where it’s from? I see it as more if a black tie dress but people wear all sorts to weddings so if you’ll feel amazing in it, go for it! I might check bridesmaids arent in a similar colour though, when wearing full length.

Ozanj · 08/09/2024 22:06

Indian wedding? Yes but you’d have to glam it up with accessories. White wedding then no - I think you’d probably look more glamourous than the bride!

Spartak · 08/09/2024 22:07

What colour are the bridesmaids wearing at the weddings? I'd avoid being in too similar a colour.

lllBCR · 08/09/2024 22:08

I think you wanted to be a bridesmaid..

LibertyStars · 08/09/2024 22:08

Lovely dress but not for a wedding.
