So as a skinny jean lover for more years I care to remember.
I'm being told by influencers that they aren't in fashion and we should be wearing these ?
Apparently in for autumn ?
I just can't help thinking they aren't as flattering as skinny's ?
Am I missing something ?
What's the name of these jeans ?
How would you style them?
Lots of influencers wearing them

Those are barrel-legged. They are very in at the moment, but so are several other shapes- don’t force yourself if you don’t like them.

dontsworery · 05/09/2024 19:59

I'm really struggling to find any shape I suit
I think those would make my legs look bigger than they are

Are they supposed to be massive around the waist? I bought some cords in my size and they are ENORMOUS. a good 3 sizes too big. Sending them back.

OuterSpaceCadet · 05/09/2024 20:12

I like barrels for having the comfort of wide legs but, being narrower at the ankle, you can roll them up easily. They're possibly not the most flattering (actually quite nice from the back).

EllaPaella · 05/09/2024 21:32

I love barrel leg jeans but they are usually high waisted so need to be worn with a cropped or shorter top or jumper IMO to balance them out.

Putmeinsummer · 05/09/2024 21:42

I think they make your legs look shorter than they are because they stop too high at the ankle.

Have you tried bootcut..bootcut are very flattering and balance most people's frames very well.

theemmadilemma · 06/09/2024 08:37

Skinny's are back for fall.

I've crept out of them a bit, it took a white and you do have to balance your top with a more fitted/waist showing style. But man are they more comfy. The young are nog stupid. 🤣

Barrel leg is not for me, as it seems a shape distortion and I just see clowns when I look at them, but then I thought I'd never wear flares again and here I am wearing them, turns out they suit my shape and are comfortable. Like any jeans they have to suit, your shape, your lifestyle and barrel leg just look like another imposed fashion style to flog more stuff, but we've taken other trends into our daily wardrobes, so who knows. Have fun and see how they fare, may be a trend that surprises us all!

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 06/09/2024 09:00

Jeans: wear what suits your body shape. That's it.

I like a barrel leg as I can wear them with wellies but they off tje looseness of a wide leg. They are NOT flattering though unless you're very slim. (I am not very slim but then I don't wear them out out)

BusterGonad · 06/09/2024 09:23

I could never wear them, my legs are slim and I have big bobs. They would just make me look like a barrel. I have bought some flares though. Slim through the thigh then a nice kick flare. Very flattering for my shape.

Jemimapuddleduk · 06/09/2024 09:36

I’ve also just bought some slim fit flares as I want to wear boots in winter and my barrel leg/mom/boyfriend styles work better with trainers. Found the most gorgeous, flattering and comfy pair in M&S- high waisted, crease front slim flares.

Barrel/carrot/horsehoe depending on leg volume mainly. Like a PP said you need a crop top or tucked in jumper to emphasise your waist so you don’t look that voluminous all over. I’ve worn barrel legs for a few years and ventured into horseshoe this summer and they’ve been surprisingly versatile.

Cantonet · 06/09/2024 09:41

I love barrel leg jeans. Especially the ones that are high waisted as they seem to balance out my short legs. Specifically, Free People Osaka jeans are strangely flattering on 5 ft 3 me.

Nannyfannybanny · 06/09/2024 09:42

Who cares about fashion or influencers! Wear what you like, feels comfortable Suits you. I have got 2 pairs of straight leg, the rest are skinny. I'm 5ft tall, can tuck them in my ankle boots, shock horror I even sometimes wear knee high boots. I'm not wearing flares etc stuffed in wellies walking the dogs in the mud.

Verite1 · 06/09/2024 09:56

As everyone has said - they are barrel leg. I always think they look nice in pics on websites but I know they would not suit me so I have not tried them. I have moved away from skinnies however. I tend to wear slim fitting boyfriend or girlfriend (essentially the same thing) jeans. I do have a pair of wide fitted flared jeans but to be honest - I never wear them. Waste of money!

Floisme · 06/09/2024 09:59

I love barrel legs, flares and wide legs and no, I won't wear what suits my body shape if I don't want to so nerr, nerr nerr.

TheLeadbetterLife · 06/09/2024 11:45

They're barrel / horseshoe. I like the shape, and they really suit me. I prefer them high-waisted rather than mid, like the ones in the OP. I wear mine with shirts, not always tucked in—I don't agree that it looks wrong to go voluminous all over. I like volume.

MintyNew · 06/09/2024 15:37

I think they are so awful looking personally. So baggy and manly looking. I feel they make anyone look so much wider.

Why is looking wider so terrible?

Littlemisscapable · 06/09/2024 17:33

Any good recommendations?

mynameiscalypso · 06/09/2024 17:37

I like them too but they work better for me with summer shoes rather than winter shoes.

That's me too. I like mine with adidas trainers or sandals but can't really pull them off with boots so will probably be back to skinnies when it's colder.

I really love your attitude, and you've inspired me to buy a pair of sailor jeans. Gold buttons at the front, a wide legged. I love them but they're a bit tight on the waist, I figure Jens give???. No larger size unfortunately. I've also revisited the boot cut. I may purchase those next month.

Sorry about the typos.
