I want to get married in this dress, but..

I've fallen in love with this dress, but it's on Etsy, no returns, coming from Thailand, and one size fits none all, so I'm not going to buy it! Where on earth could I find similar, please? Getting married next June. 5ft6, size 14, will be 48 by then. I'm not a fan of stiff fabrics, and am a massive hippy at heart. Can anyone suggest any inspiration, please?

That is very nice. I've not seen similar but I'm going to have a look.

LizzieSiddal · 27/07/2024 15:01

Monsoon and East usually have that
sort of dress.

nameynamenamenamename · 27/07/2024 15:03

Could you buy it and then have a dressmaker remake it, tailored for you. If budget allows, buy two so they have extra fabric to work with.

TizerorFizz · 27/07/2024 15:06

As it’s patterned, have you considered Boden? The picture you have posted looks like a creased fabric. Not very special for a wedding. Whistles has some fab dresses in their sale.

That dress is really lovely. Good call.

mouseyowl · 27/07/2024 15:08

I'm not sure how much it is?
Is it that it's ridiculously expensive?
If not, just buy it, try it on, if you think it's still what you want to wear then fab. Take it to a dressmaker if it needs to be altered.
I think it's lovely and I like that it's not just from a high street shop

SparrowFeet · 27/07/2024 15:14

My first thought was Farm Rio. There's loads to choose from and you might be able to get close to that Etsy dress if you look second hand?

Oooh - that is gorgeous! I need to be able to wear a decent bra, though.

I've just fallen down a Free People hole - thanks so much for suggesting them!

Thanks - I hadn't heard of them, just having a look through and there are some lovely dresses.

I'm tempted to go with the suggestions of just buying it and having it altered as needed. It's around £100, so not completely eye watering, but much more than I'd usually spend on clothes - charity shop and Vinted for me usually! Having another look, and I could always make it into a skirt (not to get married in though!) if there's no way of making it look nice.

Is the seller blossom Boho they have a dress the same but they accept returns.

TizerorFizz · 27/07/2024 15:34

Alterations cost a lot. Surely it’s worth buying from a recognised shop and sending back if not ok? Or just go shopping?

OMG - they do! Thanks, I hadn't spotted that!

I was going to suggest looking at East too

Escaperoom · 27/07/2024 15:49

You could take that picture to a dressmaker and get them to make something similar? Depending on budget of course.

MulberryBushRoundabout · 27/07/2024 16:01

Hope and Ivy is probably worth a look too.

More LOTR than hippy, but https://holyclothing.com/collections/dresses-1 have some lovely dresses, I know a couple of people who’ve bought their wedding dress here!

£158? Sure you can get something similar for a lot less!
