Tops for WFH Calls on Camera

In colder weather my default options are solid colour cashmere jumpers. They look smart, comfortable, professional enough for client and colleagues calls, with make up and a little jewellery. Soft jeans on the bottom.

But I am a bit stumped for a warmer weather attire. What to wear on top? T-shirts are too casual, the shirts do not do anything for me sitting down, blouses are blousy (I do love the look of Love and Roses but do not own anything due to being polyester). To office I wear a blazer, but it’s overkill at home.

What does one wear to look polished? Would be grateful for conceptual ideas and specific links.

@KarenOnTour . I wouldn't pay £4.64 for it. It looks shit.

Second hand Hermes Scarf thrown on over any old t shirt for call purposes?

AndYesTheWeeDonkeys · 20/07/2024 15:56

I’ll swerve the Hermes scarf … As a late middle aged woman in a creative profession the very last thing I want to do is give the impression that my awareness of fashion came to a halt in the early nineties. (When I had several and wore them everywhere. They’re still lovely for other purposes, I just won’t be draping one around my neck for Zoom meetings.)

Times like this I am pleased that simple v next T-shirts are fine for my Teams calls. I certainly wouldn’t be spending £200 on a top to sit in front of screen. Comfort is key for me when WFH.

I see a few nice things on the Saint and Sofia site. This one is nice https://uk.saintandsofia.com/collections/sale/products/edna-scoop-neck-tee-blue-jacquard

@NeedANewOne25

it’s not comfort at all costs though. Stuff has look good especially clothes we wear for work.

Are you able to take calls on a tablet or without the camera being on, so it can be at an angle that makes you feel happier with a shirt on?

@LlynTegid

she can’t have her camera off at meetings just so she can wear a shirt! It’s frowned upon by many to consistently have your camera off - it’s not very reciprocal or engaging

diktat · 20/07/2024 23:20

I like full sleeved tops that aren’t too low cut. I know you don’t like blouses but Esprit’s blouses have been really good for me. Cool yet warm and comfortable. I usually get them in the sale. Also, Lands End does some nice cotton tops.

Really? I refuse to put my camera on for external customer calls! I never had face to face meetings with customers before WFH so I don't see why they need to see me now! I grudgingly put it on for some internal calls but that depends on whether other people are.
