Tops for WFH Calls on Camera

In colder weather my default options are solid colour cashmere jumpers. They look smart, comfortable, professional enough for client and colleagues calls, with make up and a little jewellery. Soft jeans on the bottom.

But I am a bit stumped for a warmer weather attire. What to wear on top? T-shirts are too casual, the shirts do not do anything for me sitting down, blouses are blousy (I do love the look of Love and Roses but do not own anything due to being polyester). To office I wear a blazer, but it’s overkill at home.

What does one wear to look polished? Would be grateful for conceptual ideas and specific links.

Does nobody just wear t shirts and joggers or leggings to work at home? 🙈 I have calls with colleagues, agencies and clients and don’t put make up on or dress up to the nines as there’s really no need!

I think plenty of people don't need to wear 'office attire', but this is what the thread is about.

That said, there are clothes I won't wear to WFH e.g. I don't wear my little shorts and very strappy vests when I'm working. It's part of 'going to work' and an important way to keep my work/life balance clear.

Me! I don't wear make up when I go into the office so I'm certainly not wearing it at home! Today's outfit is red England cricket t-shirt, ripped denim shorts and flip flops. It's hot and comfort is more important!

Investinmyself · 19/07/2024 12:03

I wear a dress with a smarter fitted top part eg hush Kensington.
A t shirt would work for me too - plain or stripes not slogans.

Oh totally agree with having to wear something appropriate - I’d never wear anything overly revealing! But one of the tops recommended on here was £400! Who spends that to sit at home?

Actually saying that I guess if you have that sort of money then why not?

What is happening in this link?!?!! The socks / tights / flip flop combo?!? The breasts and nipples?? The poor girl!!!!!
Also, the top isn't even that nice - esp for that price!!

Edited

Genuinely looks like stills from a hostage video. I imagine they chained her back up to the radiator afterwards.

Gottoloveatakeaway · 19/07/2024 12:19

M&S do nice short sleeve linen tops. I just buy several.

DickEmery · 19/07/2024 12:43

Although that link now shows a black top! Why? Anyway they do it in white also.

SheilaFentiman · 19/07/2024 12:49

Plain T-shirt with necklace and lippie for calls.

Also the M and S thin knit polo shirts if I feel a collar is needed

FinallyHere · 19/07/2024 13:05

I've had good quality scoops and v necks from hush and from poetry, always worn with some neutral necklace.

Mostly, though, I rely on an external usb connected hide angled lens webcam positioned high up, usually on top of the big screen so it's above eye level for me.

Much more appropriate than the laptop's built in camera which is not a flattering camera angle.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/07/2024 18:27

some nice things on this thread. (Not the Rus ones, sorry awful!)

Me & Em is good for this stuff - smart t shirts and knits, I only buy in the sale

That’s a really inappropriate and disturbing comment for a fashion thread

That's one of the least flattering photos I think I've ever seen of a model 😳

The poor woman looks ill. And why isn't she allowed to wear a bra, which she clearly needs?

Sethera · 19/07/2024 20:15

Top tip - use the filter on Teams! Makes you look bright, refreshed and put-together.

FayCarew · 19/07/2024 20:15

Because we're supposed to think it looks edgy.

Glitterybee · 19/07/2024 20:24

I just wear T-shirts. Some quite casual too but I keep my camera quite high so I can only be seen from the shoulders up.

To be honest lots of my colleagues were proper vest tops (many were today). But we are client facing and I think it’s inappropriate… but no one else seems to! I noticed in 2020 everyone seemed to be perfectly polished on camera with hair and make up done but now many colleagues join calls without makeup & hairs on the top of their head in a messy bun, etc

Omg I didn't know there was a filter on Teams!

Yes, indeed! It's in settings somewhere and well-worth switching on.

pestopastaa · 19/07/2024 22:50

If you Google notch collar vest you may find something.

The bloody photos are inappropriate and disturbing - did you see them?

brawhen · 19/07/2024 23:21

I also wear the Uniqlo skipper tops!

Also boat neck Boden t-shirts in dark colours.

I find block colour plain dark tops look smart on Teams. I wear a headset which doubles as a hairband/disguise for unruly hair (as well as reliable sound quality).

Amazes me how many clients look a mess working from home...

thetailorofgloucester · 18/07/2024 15:59

I wear the Uniqlo skipper blouse for virtual meetings. Cool and comfortable. Smart collar to show a necklace. No buttons that would result in awkward puckers; so it sits well on the front.

Came here to say this except I have the linen ones! Practically live in them in summer

PadstowGirl · 20/07/2024 08:37

John Smedley, sea island cotton tops.

MyBirthdayMonth · 20/07/2024 12:55

I have a jacket with no lapels and a high round neck, which goes over everything and hides a multitude of sins.
