Best way to remove dead skin/keep feet smooth?

What is the best way to remove dead skin from feet and keep them smooth. I've tried the foot masks before but they don't seem to work for me, and I can't be doing with 2 weeks of gross feet. Any other fool proof methods?

Shanghai pedicure- or can DIY with a chiropody blade ( buy on Amazon). Soak feet or after shower when gross dead skin has softened and then get to work. V satisfying.

Urea cream is the only thing that works for me. My feet aren't cracked or anything, but very prone to thickening but when I file them down they go quite dry and rough. The urea cream is really good at softening them, I use it maybe twice a week and then put socks on. Get the highest % you can, I buy it on amazon.

Amazing tips - thanks!

@poshsnobtwit which % do you recommend? It seems to be 40 or 60?

CCS Foot Cream & Flexitol are both really good.

I just love mn for this stuff. Have order the scary looking grater file and some 60 urea cream.

You're all superstars 🤩

I tend to get hard skin on my heels so bought an electric foot file from Amazon (Ratukall Electric Foot File) and it's amazing. You change it rather than it using batteries, and it has 3 different grades of heads. First time I used it was amazing afterwards like walking on air! This is the only thing that has really made a difference and wish I had bought it earlier.

TomatoSandwiches · 13/07/2024 15:18

I use my washcloth after I've used it everywhere else and pop some bath salts on it srub gently all over my feet and ankles rinse and dry then Urea cream on my heels and salicylic acid moisturiser on the rest with cotton socks on.

Get a pumice stone, use it in the bath/shower daily. Also get a foot cream and use it every night. Keeping your feet nice/smooth is not a "once and done" - you have to keep on top of it!

This, it's quite disgusting how much skin comes away! But it's so good. I also sometimes use a callus remover but it's so, so easy to just go once to far with it and give yourself a really nasty cut (speaking from experience, the amount of blood was horrific)

Just realised @rainbowsparkle28 linked to the same type of file .

Does footner work?

NiceUnusualDifferent · 13/07/2024 16:32

Used margaret dabbs foot hygiene cream a couple of times a week for a few years and it's excellent. Use every day for a week to strat then once or twice a week to maintain.

However, I got the inkey list glycolic stick and it's brilliant. Much cheaper, I sue this once a week and any old foot cream in between.

SitBackAndRewind · 13/07/2024 16:36

I use a Footner once a year, then use a Soap & Glory foot file in the shower a few times a week.
When I go for a pedicure they always tell me I’ve no dry skin to scrub off.

SajtosPogacsa · 13/07/2024 19:22

You need a chiropody sponge - Nother Scrubber from Amazon is good, and then slather on Flexitol heel balm and wear socks overnight.

spikeandbuffy · 13/07/2024 19:53

Mine are really soft - the podiatrist had no hard skin to remove!
I use a microplane foot file when my feet are dry. In the shower I use exfoliating gloves and soap daily including between toes. Once a week a foot scrub
Urea based foot cream if they're dry or any body cream/oil every single night

UpUpUpU · 13/07/2024 19:54

Electric foot file. Disgusting and fascinating in equal measures!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/07/2024 20:12

Don't overdo the filing , once it's off you might find your feet are tender .
Use your file ( the sandpaper/emery on a plastic file type) on dry feet , put a towel down ( or I put my foot on the side of the bath)
Soak in warm footbath/bath
Towel dry , use your cream - Urea cream is good used on damp skin as it helps your skin absorb the moisture . I use anything I have - SteamCream, Soap&Glory Heel Genius , any gloopy handcream that is too greasy or I don;t like the smell of (BodyShop Hemp)
Pair if cotton socks that I keep for this

Find out WHY the hard skin comes back. If its just dry then file.moisture will solve that .
If its pressure from shoes or the dreaded Sandle Heel (you know where you see the edge of an open back sandle and the ridge of dry cracked callus) unless you remove the cause you;ll be filing forever

FinallyHere · 13/07/2024 22:15

Daily Gehwol blue creme for tough, dry skin straight out of the shower immediately before I put my socks on.

And, as PP has pointed out, only wear comfortable shoes. I miss the look for high heels but just don't wear them any more.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 13/07/2024 22:24

You know those cheese grater foot things? Use it on dry feet, not wet. Then use cream afterwards.

TheMadGardener · 13/07/2024 22:25

I have a foot file with pumice and after every bath or shower I pumice my feet and then slather them with E45 cream or own brand thick aqueous cream. Since doing this I never get dry heels or cracked skin on feet.

Tinymrscollings · 13/07/2024 22:39

I have dreadful hard skin on my heels and the side of my big toe. It laughed in the face of Footner and standard files. Nothing has ever really worked until I tried a chiropody sponge. I keep one in the shower and gave them a quick rub with that most days. I use it with the salicylic soap I buy for DH, 2nd it really works. Little bit of Flexitol balm after shower and they are finally a pair of acceptable looking feet.
