Best way to remove dead skin/keep feet smooth?

What is the best way to remove dead skin from feet and keep them smooth. I've tried the foot masks before but they don't seem to work for me, and I can't be doing with 2 weeks of gross feet. Any other fool proof methods?

Tropic do a good foot pebble, works nicely in the bath

My feet used to be fine until a couple of years ago but now there tends to be so much dead/dry skin and it is hard to keep on top of. Is this just another horrible thing about getting older? I thought HRT might help but it didn't.

I shave the underside of my feet twice a week in the shower just like I do with my legs. l slap on shaving gel & shave off all the dead skin leaving baby soft skin. A bit of a DIY Shanghai pedicure & I also go to the chiropodist a few times a year.

I have dreadful hard skin on my heels and the side of my big toe. It laughed in the face of Footner and standard files. Nothing has ever really worked until I tried a chiropody sponge. I keep one in the shower and gave them a quick rub with that most days. I use it with the salicylic soap I buy for DH, 2nd it really works. Little bit of Flexitol balm after shower and they are finally a pair of acceptable looking feet.

This. Chiropody sponge in bath followed by the Flexitol 'cracked heels' cream.

Go to podiatrist on regular basis 🤷‍♀️

Does footner work?

Not at all for me. It exfoliated the soft skin, but did nothing for the hard skin. I go for a medical pedicure every few months.

Mine is because of the way I walk, not age, so maybe look at that with a podiatrist?

I used to go for a pedicure every 2 months but after Covid lockdowns I bought this : https://www.beurer.com/uk/p/57400/

It is amazing it files my nails down, removes hard skin from under heels and toes and also has a small file to remove overgrown cuticles.

I would not be without it.

I have thos sometimes too... Best way and cheapest way.. soak feet in soapy watter 10mins..leave wet and I use a razor (mach 3 ) and I gently shave off the hard skin. Then I put nivea foot cream on and my socks on just for 1 night.. hey presto 😉 . Gorgeous feet. Next day xx. Be careful with razor and don't press hard.. x

Hot bath and scrape with my nails as it comes off easily. Sounds gross but my feet are smooth, a surprising amount comes off.

Hedjwitch · 14/07/2024 13:19

Coffee grounds in melted shea butter/ coconut oil/olive oil. Add some sea salt if you have it. I add a couple of drops of peppermint essential oil. Its messy....but super cheap and effective. Just done my dry feet,am 60

Another before and after. DH has been seriously ill. Heart failure, hospital surgery and out of control diabetes leading to foot ulcers. He hasnt been able to get his feet or the dressings wet,and podiatry only treat the ulcers not his general foot upkeep. I hadnt realised how bad his feet had got! So today he got the coffee ground treatment. ( dont look at photos if you hate manky feet!)

I think a lot of us forget about our feet, and only address them when it gets serious.

They are covered up in socks and shoes/ boots for most of the year, then when we get out the sandals it’s….arghhhh.

I read on here a few years ago that “summer feet are made in winter”, alongside the Footner recommendation, and ever since I’ve looked after them.

MartyFunkhouser · 14/07/2024 19:13

I have absolutely NO hard skin on my feet. I’m almost phobic about it. I use Flexitol about 4x a week and one of those battery operated foot file things when I’m in the bath.

Fizzyjuice · 14/07/2024 19:33

You need to use a foot cream every day otherwise it just comes straight back after filing. I like the O'Keefes one.

Very old school here - I have a wax bath. Might not work for the very hard stuff but is pretty good.

MrsBrightsidde · 15/07/2024 08:37

I have thick skin rather than rough skin, so none of those creams ever work for me.

I have a cheese grater foot file that I use on my feet once a week, which keeps my feet smooth. Only takes a few seconds on each foot as I do it regularly.

JulesJules · 15/07/2024 09:01

Footner did not do anything for me, I was quite disappointed.

I use the Soap and Glory foot file from Boots which is really good and cream as I get into bed - Flexitol or CCS.

Nosummerontheagenda · 15/07/2024 09:59

I used a Scholl foot file battery operated . Flexitol cream is great stuff too. I only do it once in a blue moon though. Should do it regularly.

chipsewfast · 15/07/2024 11:52

Another one saying CCS foot cream. Tried all sorts but this is the only thing that worked.
