Best way to remove dead skin/keep feet smooth?

What is the best way to remove dead skin from feet and keep them smooth. I've tried the foot masks before but they don't seem to work for me, and I can't be doing with 2 weeks of gross feet. Any other fool proof methods?

Another foot grater recommendation - it's amazing!! Just don't get carried away first time using it... Feet might be a bit tender if you do.
