Swimsuit for DD(16) - losing the will!

Suffolker · 05/07/2024 17:56

Finding it really hard to track down any suitable swimwear for my DD. She’s tall and gangly, athletic build (broad shoulders). Doesn’t like or want ‘sexy’ swimwear but wants something that isn’t (a) too sporty or (b) old lady. Finding it impossible to find anything suitable. She definitely doesn’t do the tiny triangle string bikinis that seem to be everywhere. Any suggestions of where we could look please? Preferably no more than £40.

DD16 went with this for this summer. Would that work?

Thanks that’s probably along the right lines but I think she’ll probably want cups (or at least some padding)

Try Landsend. They also do a long torso version, and bikini tops with shorts

New look is pretty decent for swimwear that is young but not skimpy

JessyCarr · 05/07/2024 22:52

Boden has a sale on and there are quite a few options under £40 - e.g.:

Just been through similar with DNiece who requested swimwear for her birthday.

She chose these options in the end, have ordered them to try on but am hopeful they will be comfy for her but still ‘cool’ enough:

Jack Wills
Rockett St George
Ellesse

Accessorize Lexi Mesh Swimsuit.
Gorgeous on. Not too revealing. Very supportive. And I just love it.

DD15 chose plain black one from new look which was inexpensive, had in a few basic colours

Bibbitybobbity70 · 06/07/2024 00:33

She also got swim.shorts from JDsports to go with it for a scout camp.

I recently bought 2 from Primark and was surprisingly impressed with them, although they are much more of a holiday costume than daily swimming. I found them to be quite long in the body, have cup padding and look quite nice

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/07/2024 07:33

Halocline do long torso swimsuits.
YY to Land's End too.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 06/07/2024 07:34

Animal have nice swimsuits.

Agiftandacurse · 06/07/2024 08:21

Try surfer swimwear brands like Roxy?

Jennalong · 06/07/2024 08:25

Look at Zoggs swimwear .

JamMakingWannaBe · 06/07/2024 08:36

Have you tried Next? There's a range of styles that might suit. Mine is definitely not low cut, and has padded cups.

LIZS · 06/07/2024 08:48

Primark have a variety of styles/colours and Accessorize have some in their sale.

LIZS · 06/07/2024 08:51

And Sweaty Betty often have some n their sale

custardcream1000 · 06/07/2024 09:59

I'm 5.8 so have similar issues with the length of swimsuits. I've recently purchased a few from m&s and they fit perfectly. They have a good range of simple styles in a longer length. They normally have padded cups too.

CrushingOnRubies · 06/07/2024 12:06

Have you looked at supermarkets like Tesco.

They have some nice but sensible looking bikinis in there?

milkysmum · 06/07/2024 12:40

Have you had a look at the Next sale? They have a lovely black swimsuit in sizes 10 and 12 (not sure if your DD is a size 10) with a white band across the bust and white shoulder straps. It's slightly over budget at £48 but it's down from £98 so that's a decent saving.
They have a Lipsy blue/green swimsuit in sizes 6 - 14 for £18.50

There are some lovely swimsuits on the Primark website:
