Swimsuit for DD(16) - losing the will!

Suffolker · 05/07/2024 17:56

Finding it really hard to track down any suitable swimwear for my DD. She’s tall and gangly, athletic build (broad shoulders). Doesn’t like or want ‘sexy’ swimwear but wants something that isn’t (a) too sporty or (b) old lady. Finding it impossible to find anything suitable. She definitely doesn’t do the tiny triangle string bikinis that seem to be everywhere. Any suggestions of where we could look please? Preferably no more than £40.

Decathlon tend to have good options for swimwear.

She sounds very sensible, and at 16 should really be choosing her own clothes. Give her a budget and tell her to go shopping.

Cupshe is quite good for this kind of thing. I bought a couple of swimsuits there for this summer and they are very comfortable, not too skimpy and decent support. This kind of thing.

Next do nice high waisted bikini bottoms that can be matched with tankini or bikini tops

Kyros · 08/07/2024 17:53

We really struggled with this for teen DD too. Everything felt too sporty, too revealing or too middle aged.

She's thrilled with some we found at Cupshe but be careful with returns - some designs they don't accept returns on. And I'm not sure about the length as we were looking for bikinis.

Cupshe

I can’t speak to the ethics, but they have a great range of good coverage bikinis in a range of colours and patterns. Quality is good and customer service was great.

Crossed with the last post - but to elaborate, I wanted to return them but they offered a 70% refund if I kept them - which I did!

I really like the sweaty Betty swimwear and got some in the same a few weeks ago

lateatwork · 08/07/2024 21:06

Although she doesn't want a swimsuit that's too sporty, lots of swimmers are tall, lanky with broad shoulders- so fit might work.

Try Funkita, Arena

bookmarket · 08/07/2024 21:53

Cupshe worked well for my DD who wanted something modest enough to move and swim in without falling out of it - but didn't want it to look like something she'd borrowed from her mother or grandmother!

john Lewis worth a try and easy online returns

Round123 · 08/07/2024 22:36

You want the surf brands- Roxy / animal / billabong etc. amazing quality but fun

jazzyBBBB · 08/07/2024 22:45

Look at Funkita, it's a pro range but you can pick them up cheaper on EBay, it's gorgeous!

Sorry posted too soon. This one looks lovely on my 17 year old. It's modest but also quite cute.

Amazon sell swimwear, both recognised UK brands and made up Chinese names, which are actually decent quality - I have a couple of lovely tankini sets from there, but they have all the styles.

A good MN tip I read was to look at the reviews containing photographs as the online pics are fake/airbrushed. I think you can also enter your measurements and it will tell you what size will fit, but take this with a pinch of salt.

With it being Amazon they have easy free returns so can order a load to try on and send back anything that doesn't fit or wasn't anything like the picture.

They have a Cupshe store as a risk free way of looking at that brand.

Definitely Roxy You can usually pick up some sale bargains if you Google www.roxy-uk.co.uk/women-swimsuits-sale/
