Swimsuit for DD(16) - losing the will!

Suffolker · 05/07/2024 17:56

Finding it really hard to track down any suitable swimwear for my DD. She’s tall and gangly, athletic build (broad shoulders). Doesn’t like or want ‘sexy’ swimwear but wants something that isn’t (a) too sporty or (b) old lady. Finding it impossible to find anything suitable. She definitely doesn’t do the tiny triangle string bikinis that seem to be everywhere. Any suggestions of where we could look please? Preferably no more than £40.

Boden has a sale on and there are quite a few options under £40 - e.g.:

I was coming here to say Boden. I’ve just bought a long body swimsuit half price this morning. Halter neck style is the best shape for broad shoulders, btw

If you want it under £40 you'll have to look in the sale section but all the swimmers wear funkita https://www.funkita.co.uk/collection/735-one-pieces
Even the bikinis as they are fantastic for broad shoulders and very chlorine resistant.

Thanks all, some great suggestions here. Boden is a good shout, and there are lots of possibles on the Next website. We looked in the local Next shop yesterday and it was rubbish, very few to choose from. Much more than I’d realised on the website. M&S has been rejected as too mumsy I’m afraid 😂

I really like Monki swimwear - nice cuts and colours but not too skimpy. Well priced.

DD16 went with this for this summer. Would that work?

I like that.

Boo boo

Aworldofmyown · 06/07/2024 16:27

The Boden tall swimsuits are excellent.

LlynTegid · 06/07/2024 17:59

Boden seems to have a good range I agree. I'm not surprised about your DDs opinions about some of the other options.

Aethelfled · 06/07/2024 18:27

Try Cupshe

SparrowFeet · 06/07/2024 18:35

What about free people?
Sounds like more surf wear brands might appeal and they are chock full of those .

ihatecoffee · 06/07/2024 19:12

Tesco
F&F have some fabulous swimwear

Ouchfuckingouchmyarse · 06/07/2024 19:32

Freya, Seafolly, Batoko?

paulhollywoodshairgel · 06/07/2024 19:34

I got my dd some lovely ones from SHEIN. I know not the most ethical but I was also losing the will to live and she spotted them on a Google search!!

This swimsuit is gorgeous! I have it in a size 18 and feel
a million dollars in it (I can’t honestly remember the last time I felt good in anything I wear, never mind a swimsuit.

It’a only £12 now! I paid over £30 for it.

Really recommend bakoto. Brand new they're £60 and worth it imo. You can pick them up on vinted for about £20.

Thepartnersdesk · 06/07/2024 20:11

I keep seeing Seafancy come up on online ads and think they have some nice looking but practical stuff (although I may have old lady taste!)

Try surfer swimwear brands like Roxy?

I was going to suggest this too.

FortyFacedFuckers · 06/07/2024 20:58

Look at asda online they had a few that she might like

NorthernGnashers · 06/07/2024 22:30

Is your DD modest, as I found a swim "dress" on eBay, more modest than a swimsuit as there is a bit of a skirt around the hips, and quite a high, straight neckline too.

It’s quite hard to find swimwear at the moment that is not aimed at 30+ but still covers something. My 18 year old dd has been looking for a bikini - something less sport than the one she already has. Some of the ones she tried on were quite amusing - one false move and your nipples would be out and don’t get me started on the bottoms…. I mean, you would have to sit with your legs crossed or everything would be on show?!

Slowhorses1 · 07/07/2024 13:24

Otherstories had some nice ones
