Could I get some honestly about this one hundred stars dress. My family say it's weird. It's not what I usually wear but I think I like it

I don’t think it suits your colouring at all, the cream in the dress is exactly the same colour as your skin. Maybe a few coats of fake tan would help. The shoes don’t go either, you need much daintier sandals and definitely not black.

As a fellow super pale person, I hate this kind of comment - why should we have to change our skin colour?! You wouldn't tell someone to 'lose a few pounds' to suit a dress so please don't tell people they literally have to change themselves to be able to wear something

Flyhigher · 22/05/2024 09:33

The colours look beautiful on your skin. Ignore that comment.

It is a little bit too flowy and shapeless. Maybe it needs a belt. Or a v neck.

Love the pattern and colours.

Totally agree. I like it OP, we don't all aspire to be fake tanned hourglasses.

WomenStuff · 22/05/2024 10:07

I love it! And what in the world is wrong with a pale dress on pale skin? Not everyone has to do the whole fake tan look.

It's a Rachel dress, isn't it? They can look baggy from some angles but they're also quite cleverly draped and almost but not quite sheer so in the flesh you absolutely get the sense of the figure below.

They're nice with a belt too & lovely and wafty in warm weather. I'm hourglass and unless I go full bodycon it's hard to find dresses that don't make me look preggers or like I'm working a German beer festival.

I get more compliments in my Rachel dress than any other dress I own.

I think it’s great, OP. I really enjoy a slightly unusual shape and I think the stacked shoes are a great choice, although I might choose a different colour.

However, I think you should send it back. When you’re canvassing opinions from your family and Mumsnet and you ‘think’ you like it, I reckon that signals it’s not something that you’re going to wear and enjoy. I wear a lot of this style of clothes. Mumsnet and my mother would agree that I nearly always need a belt to cinch the waist/ a delicate shoe/‘something in the neck’ or whatever. I love the look and don’t care. Things that are a bit unusual have to be worn with absolute confidence though, or they’ll wear you.

I’d have my £120 back for now, and go on Vinted to get a cheaper/plainer version - Cos do them all the time, John Lewis Kin (RIP), Sahara maybe, Arket.. Try wearing it, get used to how you put together an outfit with a more voluminous piece as a starter. ‘Flattering your shape’ is one way to look good, but it’s not the only way to look good.

It's the colour. That cream tone looks dreadful against your skin tone. It might work if they do it in another colour.

flyinghen · 22/05/2024 10:51

It looks like a lovely dressing gown, not a dress. Sorry!

In all honesty, I think that colour would work for very few people. It's the horrible yellowish cream.

Pretty pattern, but looks like a housecoat.

TigerJoy · 22/05/2024 11:03

I really like it! And i like the shoes with it. Hate all these comments saying you need to show off your figure (and get a fake tan!) to look nice

D20 · 22/05/2024 11:39

Try it with a belt before you return it OP. I find the Rachel dress to be quite versatile in terms of footwear and have worn mine with flat sandals (very boho) and satin high mules (dinner dance) and feel fabulous in it.
