What do you think of this leopard print dress?

I’m thinking of getting this to wear to a wedding in 10 days time.

I’m 38, 5ft 8, and a doughy size 12.

My mission is to find something that will cover up my pale speckly legs, my wide bum, and my flabby arms, and yet not look frumpy.

It’s been quite a challenge to find something and I am hoping that this fits the bill. But what do you think?
My sister gave me a very sceptical look when I told her I was considering a leopard print dress. I’m more of a ‘ditsy flower’ person really, but I’m fancying something more sophisticated (?!)

Opinions please, I am rubbish at online clothes shopping.

It doesn't say summer wedding to me. Looks like a dress for the autumn.

Josette77 · 20/05/2024 02:58

They style is great, but I'm not a fan of the pattern.

It's a while since I have been to a wedding but this doesn't seem weddingy to me.
Lovely dress though..

gojumpjump · 20/05/2024 03:19

That's a winter dress for me that you'd wear with tights and boots

Dreamingofgreece · 20/05/2024 05:35

This is a similar style from M & S

I like it, lots of chunky gold jewellery, gold sandals and a gold clutch and you’d be good to go I think. There are a couple of lovely leopard print long dresses in Zara at the moment so I don’t think it’s a print solely for winter.

itsgettingweird · 20/05/2024 05:49

I didn't expect to like it with leopard print being mentioned.

But it's lovely.

Agree it's an autumn or winter dress though with rights it's and chunky jewellery.

Pontipinecity · 20/05/2024 05:52

I think it will be fine with sandals. It looks like thin enough fabric not to be solely for autumn or winter and it’s just those boots that make it more autumnal.

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 20/05/2024 05:59

I think that will be absolutely fine.

ZeroFuches · 20/05/2024 08:18

Disagree with everyone above - its a gorgeous light silky fabric which will look stunning with gold or black accessories & sandals. A bit of fake sun-kissed glow and red lippy - very chic.
I have the same fabric in a skirt which is always admired and looks light & elegant. It's also lovely with blue/denim for contrast or striking with a wine colour. You could still style it for winter with boots etc so well worth the money.

Grannyola · 20/05/2024 08:19

Love it

Viviennemary · 20/05/2024 08:22

It's an ok dress but not for a summer wedding.

Itsthedress · 20/05/2024 09:20

Glad that the dress in general gets the thumbs up, just a query about how seasonal it is.

I think I will buy it and try it with sandals to see how it looks / how the fabric feels! If it looks too wintery I will find a floral alternative (thanks for the suggestion @Dreamingofgreece ) and save this for a Christmas!

Im a big leopard print person so wouldn’t hesitate to wear to a wedding, but I think the long sleeves make it feel autumny. It wouldn’t scream summer to me, but then does it have to. Buy it and see how you feel in it.

justalitteon · 20/05/2024 09:54

Love it!
What about cobalt blue sandals with it?

justalitteon · 20/05/2024 09:57

This is rather lovely as well

I was all ready to defend leopard print as a modern neutral, but like PP I don't think that dress is what I'd wear for a summer wedding - as a print it's already a bit dark and autumnal and the long sleeves accentuate that. The green print version is very suitable, or the M&S leopard print dress a PP posted would be more summery-looking.

What about this? Comes in a few different patterns. The site has loads of lovely dresses that would be suitable for a summer wedding

I don't know why anyone would willingly wear a sleeve like that 🤔 but I do like the rest of it!

Itsthedress · 20/05/2024 13:51

Thanks for these suggestions, I am going to order a couple and see how I go.

One of the things I like about the leopard one is that there is no chiffon, because even though it looks lovely on the young and beautiful models, I tend to feel a bit like I’ve cracked open my childhood dressing up box when I wear it.

I also quite like the pleated skirt because I feel it might disguise my large backside, but then it can sometimes go the other way with pleats, so will have to wait and see! There are some lovely alternative suggestions here, thank you!
