Why don’t more clothes shops do size 9 ladies shoes

Auburngal · 20/04/2024 18:05

I’m a size 8 but sometimes need a 9 as wide footed. Sometimes I better with a bigger shoe with an insole than being cramped with a smaller shoe.

Find it difficult to find shoes which fit me, are comfortable and not heavy as it is. Can’t be doing with heavy shoes as I have weak ankles.

Have tried size 8s and tight and they are the biggest shoe size that shop/brand do.

With some trainer lines, they stop at size 7 for women and love the colours.

Surely the average size of shoes that women has increased over time but some brands/shops have not caught up with the times.

I wear Skechers size 8 and know that they fit so able to buy them online without issues

It think it's quite rare for a woman to have size 9 feet, so the demand just isn't there. My husband has size 12 feet and he has the same problem, lots of shoes and socks for men stop at size 11.

Buying online isn't great for shoes either, as you really need to try them on.

blackcatcoven · 20/04/2024 18:21

I hear you OP. I’m an 8 or 9 depending on the brand and am forever having to pay to order shoes that may not fit.

I’ve found Vinted a godsend!

MagicLemon · 20/04/2024 18:22

agree that size 9 is rare for a woman so thats probably why, im a size 8 and feel like i have massive feet for a woman i have the biggest feet of any women i know, most women have much smaller feet and im not tall either im 5ft4

Wednesdaysotherchild · 20/04/2024 18:24

I’m a wide 8 too. If I ever stay pregnant and my feet end up growing, I’ll need a 9 potentially. Really not excited about that prospect…!

I found Clarks Tru Fit feature very good. They ask what style, brand and size you wear and they say we recommend that size in that shoe. My DM and myself have never had to return a pair bought online.

Could people stop posting about how size 9 feet are rare?

We know. We already feel like freaks or at least I do, so please stop rubbing it in!

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 20/04/2024 18:29

I'm an 8, sometimes 9 too, I have a small selection of places I know I can buy from and don't bother looking anywhere else.

If I want cheap ballet flats for summer casual wear I go to Asda, trainers or winter boots I get Skechers. I don't wear heels and I get men's wellies.

RagzRebooted · 20/04/2024 18:29

I vary between 8 and 9 depending on my weight and the brand of shoes. Mostly, 8s are too small though.
What happens is I end up with a load of shoes I don't particularly like because they fit so I bought them, or that don't fit any more because I gained weight (which makes my feet bigger!).

BoohooWoohoo · 20/04/2024 18:30

I’m a size 8 too and it’s my bugbear when brands label it as a 41 which is too small for me. 42 is a size 8!!!

MagicLemon · 20/04/2024 18:31

hardly "rubbing it in" im an 8 so i have large feet myself not like im a size 4 is it. i do feel like a freak being so short with such big feet. its just a fact so no need to be offended

BCBird · 20/04/2024 18:34

I am size 9 too. I didn't realise it was do rare. I goolged it and found out it is. It is soul destroying i know. Try adding needing to wear insoles and having bunions into the mix🙄

Botanica · 20/04/2024 18:42

I am a definite 9, and only fit EU 43, despite many UK brands trying to position their 42s as 9s...

95% of my shoes are from Next, with a few from Sorel, Crocs, Coach, and LTS, plus sports trainers. I just can't find reliably sized 9s from other brands to shop from.

I used to buy custom heels in 9s from Shoes of Prey before they sadly closed down....

Nonamenoplacetogo · 20/04/2024 18:52

My 13 year old daughter is a size 11 and it is impossible to find shoes to fit her. Fine if you are a 13 year old boy though and her feet are narrow so she cannot wear men's shoes

its2024 · 20/04/2024 19:14

I'm a 8.5, impossible to find this size. Even with insoles find 9s too big. I can get away with sandals in a 8 in some styles.

But I've given up on shoe shopping either live in boots/trainers as can put socks on. Sandals in nice weather.

For people struggling I find Graceland shoes from deichmann, flat shoes I sometimes get in a 8.

Jellifer · 20/04/2024 19:15

I’ve found my people!!!

I was in Sketchers today and the UK8 (US11) didn’t fit me when they used to.

My go to for trainers is Fitflop but they’re pricey

pinkpetunias · 20/04/2024 19:24

ASOS have over 600 women’s styles in a size 9, and over 200 in a size 10. They also do size 2 for people at the other end of the scale. It does mean trying on and sending back but maybe worth it for the range of options.

starlight48 · 20/04/2024 19:27

Aldo's go up to a proper 9, pricey though!

SafetyFootwearMustBeWorn · 20/04/2024 19:28

Hush puppies do 9s. Bought some lovely silver trainers

Running trainers is where it's at. I get 8.5 in Brooks or ASICS and they're great! No more squeezing into 8s.

Absurdgiraffe · 20/04/2024 19:35

Sargasso and Grey do up to a 9.5.

They are all wide fit, as well. I need a size smaller than my usual size in their shoes, just because the width is right for me.

alongtimeagoandfaraway · 20/04/2024 19:40

I’ve been a size 9 since last year of primary school. I’m 60 now…
I forced my feet into size 8 for years and have the hammer toes to prove it.
It used to drive me mad when I went into a shoe shop to ask for my size and they said there’s no demand - when I was there, demanding.
Latterly I discovered shoe shops in Chiltern Street in London - not helpful for everyone but there are online versions.
Magnus Shoes, Long Tall Sally, Josef Siebel, Think Shoes. Superset trainers have started to get some more feminine colours in larger sizes.

Moier · 20/04/2024 19:44

Clarks and Pavers do size 9.
My friend is a nine ...she used to shop in Evans.. now she shops on line.. Yours clothing have taken over Evans.. they do size 9.. so do Simply be.

Elephantswillnever · 20/04/2024 19:45

I’m sure they will catch up at some point. I’m an 8/ 42 and really a lot of shoes stopped at 7 / 41 when I was growing up. It is better now. I do wear blokes trainers in a 7 as tend to be wider.

yellowsun · 20/04/2024 19:47

I am a size 9. I get my shoes/ from Clarks, Next, Moshulu or Blundstone.

Blarn · 20/04/2024 19:47

Try Asos, if you filter size 9 flat shoes over 100 come up. Returns are really easy too which is good as shopping for shoes online is tricky.
