Why don’t more clothes shops do size 9 ladies shoes

Auburngal · 20/04/2024 18:05

I’m a size 8 but sometimes need a 9 as wide footed. Sometimes I better with a bigger shoe with an insole than being cramped with a smaller shoe.

Find it difficult to find shoes which fit me, are comfortable and not heavy as it is. Can’t be doing with heavy shoes as I have weak ankles.

Have tried size 8s and tight and they are the biggest shoe size that shop/brand do.

With some trainer lines, they stop at size 7 for women and love the colours.

Surely the average size of shoes that women has increased over time but some brands/shops have not caught up with the times.

I wear Skechers size 8 and know that they fit so able to buy them online without issues

Out of interest, how tall are all you size 9-ers?

I'm size 8 5 feet 8

NoWordForFluffy · 20/04/2024 19:59

Size 8.5, 5'11".

Tequilamockinbird · 20/04/2024 20:01

I'm also an 8 or 9 depending on shop.

I usually buy from Next, Long Tall Sally, Yours. Converse are my go to summer casual shoe and the men's size 9 are wider than the women's 9 so I get those.

Tequilamockinbird · 20/04/2024 20:01

I'm 6' size 8 or 9

Jellykat · 20/04/2024 20:04

Try being a size 10 !! Sad

Viewfrommyhouse · 20/04/2024 20:07

Square feet of retail space costs a fortune. The larger sizes don't sell enough to warrant that space. Try being a size 9/10 AND being over 6ft with a need for at least a 36" inside leg. There is fuck all out there, all my shopping is done online.

pelotonaddiction · 20/04/2024 20:08

They're not the cheapest but a decent range

I’m a size 8 too and it’s my bugbear when brands label it as a 41 which is too small for me. 42 is a size 8!!!

Yes! I am an 8.5, I think, so 42 often doesn't fit. I am really narrow though, so couldn't wear men's shoes, for example.

Keeprejoining · 20/04/2024 20:12

Actually I don't think they are rare, what is rare is the stocks that they hold. They don't sell many because they don't make many

MenoBabe · 20/04/2024 20:12

And I'm 5 foot 8

Gagagardener · 20/04/2024 20:16

Have not read whole thread. I haven't bought shoes in a shop since I discovered Hotter. I find their shoes comfortable, light weight and they fit my awkward size 8/42 feet. (I can wear only flat shoes, but I have their lace-ups, slip-ons, trainers, boots, sandals, slippers and one pair of 'dressy' shoes.)
I buy online and only very occasionally have to send back. They do some styles in widths and include size 9s.

Kalevala · 20/04/2024 20:22

Assuming because they could be left with shoes they can't sell. My 5ft 10 DS is in a 9, I can't imagine many women are. Like men's don't go below a 6.5.

pelotonaddiction · 20/04/2024 20:31

I'm only a size 7 (ish, I always wear a 41)
Bought some Skechers sandals today which are incredibly comfy. Labelled 8/41 but they're too big for me so a true size 8 if anyone was looking

Literally the bane of my life!! Also hate it when shops say EU 42 is a size 9. IT'S NOT! EU43 please!!
Next, ASOS, FitFlop are my go-to. However, I've just ordered a size 9 canvas trainer from George which I've got high hopes for.
You've so got to buy your size immediately or risk they all go out of stock.

Could people stop posting about how size 9 feet are rare?

We know. We already feel like freaks or at least I do, so please stop rubbing it in!

People are answering OPs question though, not just saying it for the sake of it.

Viewfield · 20/04/2024 20:48

You need Otto + Ivy! Beautiful shoes for size 42-46. The owner Laura Schofield started the company out of frustation at not being able to find shoes that fit. Prices are equivalent to mid-top end of high street, quality and customer service are amazing.

Otto + Ivy

Shoes for tall women in larger sizes. European Sizes 42, 43, 44, 45, 46 UK Sizes 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 US Sizes 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

I'm a 9EEE and often use simplybe and fashion world. LTS/yours are often ugly or like boats. Joe Brown's sometimes do wide fit in a 9 but generally quite a small fit. ASOS and New Look wide fit just aren't wide enough for me and their 9s are often like 8s. Next wide fit range seem to stop at 8. I hate shoe shopping. Love hot weather when I can just wear Birkenstocks in a true 9!

TuesdayWhistler · 20/04/2024 21:37

Eu43 fit.me.the best.

I hate buying mens shoes. I hate buying mens socks. I want women's shoes and socks.

It's bothered me for years.

a) Most shoe ranges are not made in size 9 so shops can not get them to stock
b) Size requests from female customers are rare so most shops keep very few size 9 ranges anyway

mitogoshi · 20/04/2024 21:44

@pinkpetunias

Thank you, we have the opposite a 2 and a 3, adults (my mums fault jumped a generation)

yellowsun · 20/04/2024 21:47

I am 5’9” (and size 9).

KingsArmy · 20/04/2024 22:03

I have New Balance trainers, Timberland boots and DM's in a UK9. Summer is a bit more tricky so normally stick with a Haviana flipflop.

mondaytosunday · 20/04/2024 22:14

Im a size 9. I have to buy online, with the disadvantage of not being able to try on. I know two other women also a size 9 and one buys men's shoes!

Zebracat · 20/04/2024 22:20

I don’t think a size 9 is rare. It’s just women have worn the biggest they could find and ruined their feet. I’m a 42 wide or a 43 standard, except of course, there is no standard.I have lost count of humiliating experiences in shoe shops. The worst was a fancy department store in Toronto. The assistant refused to believe my size and brought shoes that were too small , she reduced me to tears, even though they did actually carry my size, and I did understand the size difference. I love wearing mens socks. After years of too tight socks, they feel wonderful. Falke do beautiful colours. I’ve got Vionics and Merrell trainers, and canvas shoes from H&M, they go up to a proper 9. Great tips on here.

Men's socks are great!
I was in Tesco and showing my dad as he was bemused
Said look, men can get size 6-8, then 8 and above etc, now go and look at the women's
He came back "they're all like size 3-7, what use is that? And they're more expensive"

Me "thank you" Grin
