Yes, all the time. Can't be doing with a bed wedgie from PJ's.

WalterFence · 01/03/2024 09:11

Thanks, everyone- good to see so much nightie love. Wafting about like a Victorian ghost is exactly it, and I also very much want to channel PP's mum with her silk kimonos and velvet dressing gowns. I can also imagine myself getting up early and wandering about in the garden as if I'm about to come of age in a DH Lawrence novel.

Do you think you have to iron them?

I have one but the fabric is too thin for my nipples (I don’t think they’re that dark but very visible in that nightie). I loved the idea and it wasn’t cheap.

Yes the nipple problem is a gap on the market that needs resolving, on all sleepwear. Big gap in the market for designers there.

VictorianGhostNightie · 01/03/2024 09:20

To be serious for a moment, I find them very comfortable.

I was already using the term VGN so was delighted to see it on here and couldn't resist the name change.

I've never liked PJs which ride up and I don't like the feeling of a waistband at night. I found it so difficult to find cotton jersey nighties that weren't twee or garish. T-shirts are too short. Man-made fibres are too sweaty. I get cold shoulders at night so wanted a sleeve. But menopause has been screwing around with my temperature control for well over a decade now so I also wanted to be able to stick my legs out from under the covers to cool off. And be covered up getting up in the night because menopause has also been messing around with my sleep. It's cool in summer and warm in winter.

The VGN ticks so many boxes.

Elephantswillnever · 01/03/2024 09:21

I wear mens flannel nightshirts, I find they don’t ride up the same way as lightweight cotton voile.

DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats · 01/03/2024 09:23

I got a lovely white cotton short sleeved floaty one from Next

Pigtailsandall · 01/03/2024 09:35

I do - but only in the summer as I get too cold in the winter. I have a sleeveless 100% cotton one from JL (one of their own brand) and I love it. I am considering another one, but it would have to be very light-weight cotton too. This thread is giving me ideas!

SnapdragonToadflax · 01/03/2024 10:31

Love a wafty nightie 😁My mum's always worn them and now I'm in my 40s, I suddenly feel the need for 100% cotton wafting myself. Pyjamas in winter, nightie in summer.

@BrightHarvestMoon I'm not a fan of tacky slogans on my clothes myself, most nightwear aimed at women seems to be better suited to 7 year old girls.

Frumpitydoo · 01/03/2024 10:37

I do, they are glorious!

UpsideLeft · 01/03/2024 11:43

I buy and wear PJs and wear old cotton or linen dresses as my nighties

Noneofourbusiness · 01/03/2024 12:15

I can't wear pjs as they set off my restless legs 😩

I absolutely love the white ghost nighties. Haven't bought any due to fear they are completely see through.

I have this in navy from Next. I absolutely love it and feel like Lady Mary Grin it's my life regret that I didn't buy more.

Does anyone wear proper old school nightdresses?

BrightHarvestMoon · 29/02/2024 22:17

Hell no! 😆 I wouldn't be seen dead in something like this. Awful things. I'm middle aged, but even when I hit 65, 75, 85, I am not wearing shit like this!

THIS is more me.

I love this post. Such a strong opinion and then an image of a pair of pyjamas saying Feline Sleepy.

No one ever had a DH Lawrence-esque coming of age experience in a velour onesie. Just sayin'.

It's really frumpy but every one has different taste. Tbh my dress sense is more Kat Slater than Kate Mid so probably why I've come to that opinion 😂

I was given one from past times one Christmas when I was teenager. Loved it. Was reading a lot of classic novels at the time and would waft about the house feeling much more interesting.
I'm rather taken with this one from Their nibs, but would end up tangled up in the fabric these days

I've just ordered this, I look forward to wafting around the garden come the summer - thanks!

How lovely.
I can imagine it being gorgeous floating about the lawn on sunny afternoons...
sadly this is one of those occasions when the life I actually lead doesn't lend itself to the visions in my imagination 😆

This will almost certainly be the case for me too but on a cold, wet afternoon I'm enjoying my daydream of elegant wafting Smile
