Blonde hair disaster?! Photo included

So, I've always box dyed my hair blonde (probably light brown naturally) but last 6 months or so my usual box has made my hair brassy. Tried purple shampoo ect. Tried a shade lighter but no good either. So tonight I used a one with bleach in to try and "lift it' - brassiness has gone but it is sooooo light! I'm pushing 50 and worried it looks trashy. Going on holiday on Monday to add to drama. Is it as bad as I think? How can I fix it?!

I think it looks like it came out good! Obviously if it’s not what you’re looking for then my comment isn’t helpful! But to me it looks like a really nice shade of blonde.

NewJobNewMeNewLife · 15/02/2024 23:01

Agree with above.looks great

FlippityFloppityFlump · 15/02/2024 23:03

Another here who thinks it looks good. It is light but looks nice

brokenbitbybit · 15/02/2024 23:11

You need to use a toner I think, something like this

It's hard to comment as I don't know what it looked like before, or how you wanted it to look?

Fetaa · 15/02/2024 23:12

I like it!

hayley013 · 15/02/2024 23:13

It looks like it's lifted well, you just need a toner now

Eightfour · 15/02/2024 23:14

I think box dye blonde is always going to look like that because most natural blondes have different tones throughout. Personally I think it needs more shades weaving through it but that would need a hairdresser. It doesn’t look bad though.

Kleptronic · 15/02/2024 23:18

Yep toner. The roots are a touch yellower than the lengths and it's a bit flat. Usually it's the other way round though, the roots are pulsar and the lengths are neon, so you did well, really bloody well, respect.

OkayKinkade · 15/02/2024 23:24

Get a toner on it. From the shops, something like Shrine champagne if you want to dial down the bleach blonde look.

ilovelamp2 · 16/02/2024 07:07

Thanks everyone- feel less panicked. Right, I will get a toner tonight and whack that on. Used some purple shampoo this morning which has toned it down a bit. Wish I vould fo it now. Will post when done if anyone's interested? (Is compassionate leave for hair misadventure a thing?!)

I'm a long time box dye user too, Nice n Easy SB2 (ultra light cool summer blonde) to be exact. I've also been finding it goes a bit brassy in sections more recently. I also tried Soft Silver which turned out to be Battleship Grey on me 😱 Luckily I WFH, but I totally think Hair Leave should be a thing!

I'm nervous to try anything else now, so I'd be really interested to see a photo after you've used a toner, if you feel like posting one.

Hope it goes well, good luck.

21ZIGGY · 16/02/2024 07:52

I wouldnt use purple shampoo. Its so damaging to colour and condition

ZenNudist · 16/02/2024 07:56

I really like it. I can see that a toner could make it look less platinum and add class. Its not trashy though. You're going to have to be really careful on holiday. Get a small chlorine shampoo and take a good deep conditioner.

soupfiend · 16/02/2024 07:59

Same age OP and thats a lovely colour, thats what I hope for each time but alas it comes out nearly orange

Im getting it done tonight, hoping for something different this time as Ive got a proper hairdresser to apply it for me

TheOGCCL · 16/02/2024 08:44

I like it but take care of it of you are going somewhere sunny and you might need a plan for maintenance/regrowth.

brokenbitbybit · 16/02/2024 13:48

Would love to see an update once you've toned it!

justasking111 · 16/02/2024 13:51

If you're swimming in a pool suggest you wear a swimming cap.

SirChenjins · 16/02/2024 13:52

Looks good to me! Bet it would look great with some bright red lippy Smile Keep up with the toner and you'll grow to love it I'm sure. Please post an update.

Hair leave should totally be a thing - I would have used it a few times over the years.

DespairAgony · 16/02/2024 13:55

Purple shampoo toner will NOT take to freshly bleached hair. You need a box dye grey.

AmaryllisChorus · 16/02/2024 13:55

I love that colour.

What do you mean? Purple shampoo isn't toner. They're 2 separate things. What do you mean, won't take? If anything, it'll 'take' too much on such freshly bleached hair.

DreamOfBees · 16/02/2024 17:07

Ooh can I ask what box dye you used please? It's exactly what I'm looking for!

PotentialplanB · 16/02/2024 17:20

I love it!! It definitely looks platinum blonde rather than natural with different shades but that is a great look! Not too much difference between roots and lengths for a home job either. A bit of toner will, well, tone it down a bit, keep on top of the condition and you're away! I think a rose pink would look amazing. What dye was it?
