Blonde hair disaster?! Photo included

So, I've always box dyed my hair blonde (probably light brown naturally) but last 6 months or so my usual box has made my hair brassy. Tried purple shampoo ect. Tried a shade lighter but no good either. So tonight I used a one with bleach in to try and "lift it' - brassiness has gone but it is sooooo light! I'm pushing 50 and worried it looks trashy. Going on holiday on Monday to add to drama. Is it as bad as I think? How can I fix it?!

Blond here. My hair dresser says never to use purple shampoo. Apparently makes a mess of blond hair. If you have time I would have a hairdresser add some low lights to break it up a bit.

It’s stripped the colour evenly which is good, Needs a toner. I’d go a bit darker or warmer than the silver suggested as a block of very pale blonde can be quite ageing and harsh. Lowlights would be good but presume you don’t want to go to the hairdresser

I'm 51 and it looks like mine (also a box dyer I'm naturally dirty blonde but prefer a lighter shade).

I think it looks great. I'd kill for your length! Mine won't grow much past shoulders now.

If you use something like this it'll go grey in some places where the pigment grabs more than others. Personally I wouldn't bother, I think it looks nice, it's a good result from a box.

Could you tell me what you use please? I'm a mousey blonde and desperate to lighten up!

It doesn't look trashy because the condition is good, it's a nice shade. If you're going somewhere hot make sure you have a hat so it stays looking nice!

So .... sorry this is so late! Purple shampoo and a curl - better?!Going to leave until after hols them see if it needs a toner/hairdresser!

I tried to bleach my own hair and had to go to work with hair that was a patchwork of frazzled white and yellow blotches. I managed to laugh about it and get an emergency appointment with a hairdresser who cut most of it off and toned the rest.

Never bleached it myself since!

It was this box dye if that helps - thanks for all the reassurance! Interesting to read that others are having similar issues.

That looks amazing honestly! If I didn’t know any better I’d say it looks professionally done. I say this as someone who pays a ridiculous amount every few months for a full head of blonde highlights.

Looks great OP! The only thing I’d suggest in future is doing a root tap with a darker blonde toner as this will make it look more natural and less obviously fresh if that makes sense, loads of videos on you tube

Op sometimes it's just a case of getting used to it. I've been like you when I've had a radical cut/change. It's an adjustment.

My only box job ended up with patches of orange everywhere - I had to go red afterwards - then that was brassy!
