What are some brands like Oliver bonas?

I need a non-revealing but summery dress suitable for a christening and a family wedding with a toddler who I will be chasing. I will be wearing it with gold strappy sandals and a cult gaia straw and gold mini bag, and big black celine-style sunglasses.

Sleeveless is fine, but not spaghetti straps. It will be hot. I was thinking a tea dress or something with capped sleeves. I want an interesting/abstract print, or a plain summery colour.

Usually OB would be good for something like this, but everything I like is out of stock in my size.

Can anyone recommend something similar?

I’ve had a look at Rixo but nothing is coming up on Vinted, their rental is too expensive for the period I need (will be abroad) and I don’t want to spend £300 on a printed ‘bright’ dress. But that’s the vibe I’m going for.

You could try the wolf and badger sale? Due to the time of year a lot of the prints/materials are more wintery but there are some dresses that might work?

I love the colour of this one - https://www.wolfandbadger.com/eu/pleated-midi-dress-3
Like the print on this but maybe not the cut -https://www.wolfandbadger.com/eu/red-coral-midi-dress/
another lovely colour - https://www.wolfandbadger.com/eu/jasmine-maxi-dress-bubblegum-pink/

Apologies if some of these are slightly over budget, I’m making a rough guess from euros (it’s a British site but I’m abroad and the website is very committed…) - also having difficulty with copying links.

I followed your link through on the second one. Never heard of this brand but there are beautiful dresses.

I like this too- https://www.johnlewis.com/finery-lilybelle-crepe-midi-dress/pink/p110478970?size=10

but worried my toddler will be pissed off with me for not having boob all day

I’ve tried that on and it looks like something from Handmaids Tale
Dont go for something crepe or satin around a toddler in the heat- it’ll show every mark.

Ooh Louche is a great suggestion

Never fully dressed? Bright patterns etc can usually find a good deal on Vinted and then sell on etc

Xiaoxiong · 07/02/2024 11:36

What about LK Bennett, Phase 8 or Hobbs? Expensive full price, and you have to filter carefully but in terms of non-revealing summery frocks in plain or abstract prints, that's their bread and butter.

DarkAcademia · 07/02/2024 12:39

Definitely Anthropologie. You could also try Reformation, especially on Vinted/Ebay.

This dressmaker makes Reformation near-copies. Nice quality too, although I wish I had sized down slightly - https://goldiewildflower.com/

I really like the Mango floral from John Lewis that you linked to earlier, OP. It would work with your accessories plus is linen so perfect for warm weather.

The Mango Amalfi dress is stunning.

ohxmastreeohxmastree · 07/02/2024 17:35

OP I have that green Finery dress you linked. It is stunning but I wore it to a restaurant in a hot country and as PP said within about 10 seconds it was covered in massive sweat patches (I’m not a particularly sweaty person!!!) and every time I touched it it left marks on it.

Alicia87 · 07/02/2024 18:48

have you look at Never Fully Dressed? They have some good Rixo style dresses at a much lower price point! x

Chasing a toddler in gold strappy sandals? good luck

They are a low heel and absolutely fine for this purpose- thanks for your utterly pointless post. What a waste of energy.

WOW

i’ve just come back to this thread and I am delighted. Thank you to everyone who shared links and commented on my suggestions.

Going to have a look on Vinted tonight with the filters on and hopefully grab a bargain.

Try hirestreet instead of by rotation. Hirestreet are offering 2 rentals for 30 days for £30, or 5 items for 30 days for £55.

They have less of the high end stuff, but there are a some rixo dresses and also nobody's child. I don't know what size you are, but these could be options...

Rixo dresses

Rent black tie or wedding guest dresses, from just £20 | Hirestreet UK

Rent dresses for black tie events, wedding guest dresses or even a holiday wardrobe, for 4 days, or 30 days!

thank you- I took a look in the sale section, found this.

i usually hate florals and think they can verge on naff but i feel drawn to this…

The first one you posted is gorgeous, and a bargain!

boredybored · 08/02/2024 20:40

Have a look at the clearance bit on the next website . There is usually loads of nobody's child on there and lots of other brands . OB included

gawditswindy · 08/02/2024 20:52

Reiss dresses are jumping out at me: there were some lovely midi, floral dresses, tailored but floaty, on Next last summer. A lot of the prints are a bit wintry at the moment but it's probably a good shout for this year too. Or you'd maybe get some on Vinted.

I also prefer the Mango dress to the others linked above.
