What are some brands like Oliver bonas?

I need a non-revealing but summery dress suitable for a christening and a family wedding with a toddler who I will be chasing. I will be wearing it with gold strappy sandals and a cult gaia straw and gold mini bag, and big black celine-style sunglasses.

Sleeveless is fine, but not spaghetti straps. It will be hot. I was thinking a tea dress or something with capped sleeves. I want an interesting/abstract print, or a plain summery colour.

Usually OB would be good for something like this, but everything I like is out of stock in my size.

Can anyone recommend something similar?

I’ve had a look at Rixo but nothing is coming up on Vinted, their rental is too expensive for the period I need (will be abroad) and I don’t want to spend £300 on a printed ‘bright’ dress. But that’s the vibe I’m going for.

I’m also in my twenties, like showing a bit of skin and don’t do extreme oversized- so brands which allow for a bit of tailoring, ie. no sacks. 😂

Nobodys Child
Jolie Moi (maybe)
Scamp & Dude

More generally I’d point you towards John Lewis, put in lots of filters and there will be some options

Nobody’s child is a good idea- I own some bits from there already but mainly mini dresses

Ro and Zo might have something to fit the bill? There's lots in their outlet section too.

Also Albaray and Great Plains would be worth a look.

I like Farm Rio but possibly out of your price range unless you buy second hand.

OnceUponATeabreak · 06/02/2024 18:51

I think Finery would be absolutely perfect for you. Lots of dresses just as you describe, and they are not billowy or tent like, but more of a slightly fitted silhouette. Not sack like at all Smile and the price point is very good.

cheezncrackers · 06/02/2024 18:53

Anthropologie is the brand most like Oliver Bonas IMO.

OnceUponATeabreak · 06/02/2024 18:54

They are still on mostly winter shades online at the moment, but in spring/summer they have many more colours and sleeve lengths. There's still some lovely summer-appropriate dresses on the website now though. The polka dot ones would be lovely.

Sugarhill boutique?

BargainBasementland · 06/02/2024 19:22

Thanks all.

i do really want to pick up something in the sale or a bargain. i don’t mind splurging on a dress if it’s an absolute classic, but I don’t think this purchase will be.

i have looked by rotation for something fab but I’ll need to rent it for 9 days until total to allow for travel and postage. It seems crazy to spend £90 minimum for the faff when I could pick up a cheaper summery little number that I could vacuum pack and pull out for holiday nights next year.

Will take a look.

I really like this in green.

Will need something on my arms for the church though.

I like OUTNET for colourful dresses, Ganni etc with decent reductions to be had

Jellybott · 06/02/2024 21:21

Kitri have a good sale on at the moment

Salacia · 06/02/2024 21:50

You could try the wolf and badger sale? Due to the time of year a lot of the prints/materials are more wintery but there are some dresses that might work?

I love the colour of this one - https://www.wolfandbadger.com/eu/pleated-midi-dress-3
Like the print on this but maybe not the cut -https://www.wolfandbadger.com/eu/red-coral-midi-dress/
another lovely colour - https://www.wolfandbadger.com/eu/jasmine-maxi-dress-bubblegum-pink/

Apologies if some of these are slightly over budget, I’m making a rough guess from euros (it’s a British site but I’m abroad and the website is very committed…) - also having difficulty with copying links.

Pegsmum · 06/02/2024 21:54

What about Anthropologie?

underseige05 · 06/02/2024 21:59

Never fully dressed is worth a look I have a dress from there that sounds just like you have described

underseige05 · 06/02/2024 22:02

You may need to wait a Little longer for their spring/summer range to come out

I bought the bubblegum pink dress on Vinted for £30! Vinted is well worth a try. If you like a few dresses on there then it will start showing you similar ones too - their algorithm is scarily accurate 😂

Louche is lovely. So many lovely dresses and so flattering.
