Jumpers to wear to dinner?

MsFogi · 29/01/2024 22:46

We are off skiing at half term and the hotel we stay at is always freezing (well I am freezing no one else seems to be!) so I end up wearing a jumper to dinner. In previous years I have ended up wearing a hideous jumper that I packed in order to have a jumper - this year I would like to have a couple of jumpers that actually look like I had intended to wear them to dinner and can form part of an outfit. I can't wear anything tight/clingy because I have an awful menopause tummy that is not going anywhere in the next two weeks - I'm 5ft3 and size 12/14 so am trying not to end up looking like the abominable snowman. Any ideas of where I should look, what could look decent/stylish/put together whilst being cosy?

Also following for jumpers for the exact same reason!

Loads of nice jumpers out there. Just buy a couple and wear your thermals underneath them. You know...try Toast, John Lewis, Hush.

Cos.

Budget?

I could send you off to &Daughter, Johnstone's of Elgin, Raey and Pringle where I'm hard pushed to find a single item I don't want to own.

The Croft House

beetr00 · 29/01/2024 23:31

@MsFogi would this also fall into the hideous category? (with thermals as PP suggested)

Might not get your jacket on though 😊

price range may be too low though?

I’m a cold mortal, too. Thermal vests are my friends, go on in October, come off inApril / May ( not the same vest, obviously) .

Like you I am 🥶a sweater wearer when all around me are showing their arms. I find that that jumpers respond very well to dressing up, so a plain soft sweater gets a silk scarf around the neck ( also a contributor to warmth) and a big statement necklace.

( cashmere leg warmers under the trousers are good, too.)

I’m a total convert to pure wool jumpers for warmth. Don’t know why I resisted for so long (maybe price?)

Have a look at Genuine Scottish Knits - I particularly like their Skipper Mill jumpers. Look great with skirts too.

I have a few Seasalt “fruity” jumpers. I’m taller than you, but otherwise similar in terms of tummy challenges! They come in lots of colours, are generously sized and you can either wear them with a shirt underneath (which I find handy for eating out in case I do get warm), or just on their own. The only downside is they do bobble a bit when you wash them, but not to the extent that it bothers me.

I love M&S jumpers. I find them to be great quality and their merino wool ones are very soft! They’re slowly releasing nice spring colours which could be nice to wear at the snow? Something other than black?

I was coming on to say this. Seen some lovely cashmere jumpers that l wish l was going skiing so have a good excuse to buy.

Rosiiee · 30/01/2024 09:15

@junebirthdaygirl they’re surprisingly warm too!

GingerIsBest · 30/01/2024 09:31

I bought a couple of cheap jumpers at M&S recently which are actually polyester (recycled) and I've been pleasantly surprised. Given the choice and budget, I'd stick with cashmere but these have been good and very forgiving of my tummy!

Also, I quite like a Mint Velvet jumper. I have been eyeing up this one: https://mintvelvet.com/products/grey-wool-button-jumper

Also, if your budget stretches to it, white Company have some lovely cashmere blend jumpers. the only problem is that they to tend to suit women with smaller busts and less belly so you have to do a bit of digging to find one that's appropriate.

I'm a big fan of a coatigan and a neck scarf. I can be cosy and comfortable whilst also looking slightly smarter.

Workawayxx · 30/01/2024 09:38

I’ve seen this one on fb reels a few times and it’s on my wish list. I think the buttons look really pretty and can be left part unbuttoned. it comes in loads of colour options. I’ve seen it work with a lace edge thermal top under too. There were some in Tesco at the weekend (which I resisted as trying not to spend but regretting it 🤦🏻‍♀️).

Look at Sezane. Great woollens. Also, wear a merino vest under everything! Cambridge Baby does lots of good ones

New2024 · 30/01/2024 09:55

Opt for layering maybe. Navy or black fine gauge knit with thermal underneath and gilet or blazer/jacket over the top

shrodingersvaccine · 30/01/2024 10:53

I'd do Uniqlo for affordability - their 'fine knit merino' or their 100% lambs wool. Both really warm, I've multiple in the crew neck and they are not bulky, ideal to pop over a nice dress just for warmth. Look classy with your jewelry on! Also have a few nice ones from M&S, they've a short sleeve black cashmere jumper I'm eyeing up at the moment. And try Vinted for decent second hand, if you search brands or materials you know you want you can narrow it down!

idontlikealdi · 30/01/2024 10:54

I really like Sugarhill Brighton

Lovelysnuggyjumper · 30/01/2024 10:55

I just bought this from M&S - much nicer than in the picture and lovely and soft
