Jumpers to wear to dinner?

MsFogi · 29/01/2024 22:46

We are off skiing at half term and the hotel we stay at is always freezing (well I am freezing no one else seems to be!) so I end up wearing a jumper to dinner. In previous years I have ended up wearing a hideous jumper that I packed in order to have a jumper - this year I would like to have a couple of jumpers that actually look like I had intended to wear them to dinner and can form part of an outfit. I can't wear anything tight/clingy because I have an awful menopause tummy that is not going anywhere in the next two weeks - I'm 5ft3 and size 12/14 so am trying not to end up looking like the abominable snowman. Any ideas of where I should look, what could look decent/stylish/put together whilst being cosy?

I just bought this from M&S - much nicer than in the picture and lovely and soft

oh that's lovely

Woolovers are great for quality, classic styled jumpers. This shape is flattering on my peri tummy.

I'd wear a black one with accessories ir the ones with sequins in them

Trickedbyadoughnut · 30/01/2024 11:37

Cashmere will pack really small and keep you warm - I get all of mine off Vinted for under 20 pounds, but TK Maxx and MandS have decent items too.

Rina66 · 30/01/2024 12:40

I'm always cold, so love a jumper that's a bit different for nights out.

I've got these three from Manamou.co.uk, it's local to me but they have an online website - none are over £35, all non itchy and they cover my tummy.

Look at Sezane. Great woollens. Also, wear a merino vest under everything! Cambridge Baby does lots of good ones

Where do you get good merino vests from?

MsFogi · 30/01/2024 12:54

Oh my goodness - thank you so much for all the ideas, I am going to spend all day going through them!!

@Namechangenamechange321 i got a couple from Cos and yes they are fantastic for heat. WAY better than Heatech or Heatgen.
Here

outdoor shops do them and possibly even better but more expensive and I’m not climbing mountains. The Cos ones are great for everyday wear.

If you Google Cambridge Baby their website comes up. They stock a few merino brands and I’ve found them all decent. The ones I remember are Engel

Thanks!

Lovemycat2023 · 30/01/2024 16:07

I have a bright pink roll neck jumper from M&S that I think looks nice enough to wear for dinner, and it’s lovely and soft and cosy

LondonLass91 · 30/01/2024 17:11

What about the gorgeous reiss asymmetrical one (Lorna?). Honestly looks amazing and great with jeans or skirts. Size up though, a medium is a size 10.

TheBayLady · 30/01/2024 17:31

Don't go for one with sleeves that are to wide (PRETTY LITTLE THING) or they will end up on your plate.

ChristineTheStrawberryGirl · 30/01/2024 17:56

This is beautiful in real life - it's 100% cashmere and really light, soft and cosy. Also comes in a deep pink and black.

How dressy do you want to go?
I have lovely warm wool jumpers from Seasalt, or at the other end of the scale this sequin blazer from hot squash - it has a thermal lining

Sequin Jacket

Sequined jacket that WOWS. Just add a simple tee and jeans or a HotSquash occasion dress.

The Gaspard by Sezanne is lovely. You can wear it as a cardigan with buttons up the front or as a jumper with buttons down the back. It comes in lots of colours.
All the knitwear at Sezanne is lovely.
I weat a long sleeve thermal T-shirt from Uniqlo underneath

I would go for a loose wool/ cashmere jumper in your best colour and have some thin T-shirts to put underneath.

Elevenutionary · 30/01/2024 18:42

Oh yes! I second Sezane knitwear! It’s lovely and very suitable for dinner.

DeepestDarkestRiver · 30/01/2024 18:54

I just bought this from Hush in the sale, and it's gorgeous: Montana roll-neck vest. It's so soft and warm, and you can wear a shirt or long-sleeved t-shirt underneath.

I was coming on to say this. Seen some lovely cashmere jumpers that l wish l was going skiing so have a good excuse to buy.

Another vote for M&S - their cashmere ones. I’m a size 12, generally buy a 14 to allow for a tiny bit of shrink and I think they look a bit nicer when not too fitted. I wear with a necklace or a bold earring for going out. Love them!

Papyrophile · 30/01/2024 20:05

Eribe is another name to look out for if you are interested in the mid-price Scottish woollen jumpers. Their colour combinations are usually wonderful, so very ski-appropriate.

Edited to add House of Bruar as another Scottish source of nice jumpers, from everyday to dressier.

I just saw someone posted Sezane and it reminded me I'm lusting after this Barry Cardigan (not the most glamorous name 😂) in sea green.
