I need new trainers and have no idea which type.

They are for walking to the office (1 mile each way) and I usually wear them with dresses.

im in Scotland… so need to be able to cope with rain.

usually I wear superga, but I don’t know if they are too out of style now

Watching with interest. I’ve got Vejas but according to one S&B thread this is classed as a middle aged mum trainer and best avoided apparently 🤷‍♀️

well… I am a middle aged mum lol. But yeah, it would be good to know what’s cool for the middle aged mums

it’s all personal style

new balance seem popular now but personally i think they’re old fashioned - even the new ones look crap to me

i tend to buy trainers from more unusual brands

veja defo last season

adidas samba seem to be on rise and they’re ok

DeathMetalMum · 13/01/2024 16:59

New Balance, On clouds and Nike air force one seem to be the in fashion choic at the moment.

Cheesyfootballs01 · 13/01/2024 17:00

I wear FitFlop Rally - white leather.

They are lightweight, fit well and are really easy to keep clean.

What brands are you buying from?

I like them as plain black as possible

I’m a middle aged mum too! I like my Vejas and have no intention of giving them up , I just didn’t realise they had an age bracket associated with them

DS2 is 17 and wears Sambas - he’d die a death if I got some too Grin

Moonlaserbearwolf · 13/01/2024 18:24

Converse - they are never the height of fashion, so never out of fashion either. Worn by all ages. They are cool simply because they show you aren’t a slave to the latest trends.
Agree with previous poster…don’t get trainers that are the latest fashion for teens if you are a middle aged woman.

OR

If you like them, do! Enjoy.

Exactly. My 15 yo dd wants me to dress in the trainers she likes… and no I don’t because mine are more comfortable… but I do have the Molly Mae Zara jacket.

LuckyCharm9 · 13/01/2024 19:28

I have the Dr Martens trainers in black, also converse.

Edited

i used to wear samba and gazelles as a teenager (1995/6) but my feet are too fat for them now lol

In the company I work for (media) Sambas, Gazelles & Converse were the most popular.

Boomboomshakeshaketheroom · 13/01/2024 21:39

I was recently in NYC and absolutely everyone was wearing Nike Air Jordans, either the low or high top. As they're leather they'd be a good choice for your walks.

OhpoorMe · 13/01/2024 22:32

I agree sambas are the trainer for this year, but my god they're uncomfortable!

MissKittyFantastico84 · 13/01/2024 22:39

I can't get over all the hyper cool New Balance trainers looking exactly like the £10 bargain trainers my Dad used to buy in Macro for gardening.

They are so bloody ugly.

Whatineed · 13/01/2024 22:42

Adidas Stan Smiths never go out of style op. Super comfy from the get go, and great for wide feet. I'm early 50's and we have all generations wearing them in the office.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 13/01/2024 22:45

I have a pair of on running-so comfortable it’s like walking on a cloud.

SgtJuneAckland · 13/01/2024 22:49

I've just bought a pair of Hof trainers in the sales, really comfortable and had some positive comments from the more fashion conscious of my colleagues, but they all seem to be quite colourful

EasterIssland · 13/01/2024 22:54

I’ve some hoff. They were hard and causing me pain on my heels in my hols in nyc. Changed the insoles to ergonomic ones and game changer!

have some stan smith that I’ve not wear much and probably will get some nike air force this summer

HillyHoney · 13/01/2024 23:06

Don't know if they're cool but I just bought some black hi-top Converse Chuck 70s - they have a thicker, squidgier sole than normal Converse hi-tops and the rubber is slightly more vintagey looking - they are soooo comfy!

I also have a very very old but very comfy pair of Nike Internationalists in plain black - you might like those for low-key versatility.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/01/2024 23:07

I have black leather and blue suede Sambas - love both but do find them very flat for my plantar fasciitis. My NB 574s are super comfy, but the chunkier ones (329 or something?) less so. Stan Smiths are my absolute faves, and I also really like my Handball Soezials.

I know everything goes round in circles but I’m chuckling away at this…New Balance old fashioned but Adidas Samba on the rise…they were the trainers of choice when I was a child/young teen in the early 1980s😂😂
