I need new trainers and have no idea which type.

They are for walking to the office (1 mile each way) and I usually wear them with dresses.

im in Scotland… so need to be able to cope with rain.

usually I wear superga, but I don’t know if they are too out of style now

I think you can't go wrong with gazelles although they are very flat if you are doing lots of walking and they need frequent waterproofing. Samba are popular at the moment.
I find New Balance really comfortable particularly the 327 but the price has rocketed considerably. DC1 24 wears the Dad trainer style but they are not my cup of tea at all.
I've seen a few Nike waffle trainers about and am tempted to try them but I have a bit of an aversion to Nike.

I have Veja and Air & Grace trainers, both extremely comfortable and look good with dresses.

Converse Chuck 70s have more padded soles @whirlyhead bit thicker than Vejas even.

@Heather37231 I wear 3 of the styles you listed 😁(not Sambas) but I don't have problem feet or walk too much (less than 4 miles a day) and also just... switch to warmer options if it's too cold. Currently in a pair of Bobbies boots with sheepskin insoles. Though tbf I don't know what 'proper running trainers' feel like, because vain.

Ha ha, I’m pretty sure I don’t have “problem feet”. I reckon people who wear flat “trainers” have superhuman feet!

Surely you had to wear running trainers for PE at school?

I'm almost beyond middle aged now, but I do love a good trainer! For the last few years, I succumbed to the AF1 trend - because I love the style and look of them. However, I find them clunky and rather heavy to wear, and bloody slippy on wet surfaces.

My two go-to pairs are now Nike Air Max 90s in plain white, so light and comfortable, and my trusty Saucony Jazz Vintage, again really comfortable and bouncy to walk in!

Vejas - never quite got the craze for those, they look stiff and inflexible and just too plain for me.

Following with interest.

I’m a middle aged mother and yes, wear Veja all the time. They are so comfortable. My feet only have to look at shoes and they blister. They are also flat and I suffer from plantar fasciitis. I’d actually love to break out and wear something different though. I can’t wear heels and so chunky soles would help as I’m 5”3 and DH is 6”1.

I can’t wear Converse as they are so flat and uncomfortable, Nike Air left me with awful blisters and ended up at the charity shop. Air and Grace trainers followed them for the same reason.

I’m a diehard Brooks GTS purchaser for running but they aren’t trainers I’d wear out of my sports gear.

When you say Samba you mean Addidas ones right? They look very flat? Maybe I’m just consigned to keep buying into the Veja’s that my stereotype fits. They don’t last that well though and look ratty very quickly.

I only wear trainers - at the moment I’ve a few pairs of AF1 and Hoff.

New balance 327s

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/01/2024 16:09

I was waiting for DS yesterday and every other woman had veja trainers and a quilted coat - they all looked stylish and cool, albeit a uniform of sorts.

See to me that just makes people look like imagination free sheep. Very far from "cool"

I bought these in the autumn and I could happily wear them all day every day.
They are as comfy as my slippers.
They look great with everything and I'll be buying more

White leather ones from Clarks are brilliant! Washable and comfy, also very stylish imo

Issorryreallythehardestword · 23/03/2024 23:49

Birkenstock also do white trainers with great bridge support which look great (again imo!)
