Help have returned an item to Next accidentally that was from another store

Took a load of online stuff back to Next and there was a jumper in the bottom of the bag from another shop but they sell it too. It wouldn’t go through but she over rode it so it did. I was sorting out the mountain of plastic that was in the bag and didn’t realise she’d pulled out the other jumper.I’ll never get the jumper back and it’s been credited to my account. Not sure what to do.

I'm not sure what the issue is? You wanted to keep the jumper?

T1cTacT03 · 23/12/2023 21:32

No but worried they’ll uncredit it when they realise but I’ll be without the jumper. Def don’t want it but would need to return it to the correct store for a refund.

I don't know if they're able or allowed to uncredit things? If they did though I'd definitely open up a complaint to get the item back. Likely they wouldn't be able to and would send you a gift card as a sorry...I've had a couple of issues recently and they just send gift cards out at the drop of a hat it seems!

T1cTacT03 · 23/12/2023 21:40

To be honest she should have realised. It wasn’t really my fault. It was from M&S but a brand they both sell. If there was an issue, I’d miss the return date for M&S. it wasn’t cheap £60. She kept pushing it through to be helpful I guess but the system should be able to tell you’d think.

You would have thought so wouldn't you. I don't think they'll be a problem to be honest but would definitely complain if they raised it with you.

ofestivetree · 23/12/2023 21:43

Complain about what? The member of staff returning all items the OP gave her?

T1cTacT03 · 23/12/2023 21:46

Actually on looking I don’t think they have credited it. Had 2 emails, one with a picture of it included and one with what they’ve credited without it. Shit, how on earth am I going to get it back?

Sodndashitall · 23/12/2023 21:48

Check your bank account. Has the full amount been refunded including the jumper? If so then that's fine it's all refunded and who cares. They can't dip back into your account to correct it

If not then you need to go back to store and explain that you either need the jumper or the refund

In all honesty you are unlikely to be able to get it back sorry

HunterHearstHelmsley · 23/12/2023 21:50

I suppose you could try complaining but it looks pretty fraudulent. Like you've stolen something then tried to return for a refund. I'm not sure how far you'd get. A bit shit for the shop assistant too as she was trying to help.

T1cTacT03 · 23/12/2023 21:50

Just adding it all up to check.

I always find social media best for customer service. Some companies have return policies that specifically say they aren’t responsible if you send them something back in error but not sure about physical returns to store.

TeaKitten · 23/12/2023 21:52

I’d go into the store and ask to speak to a manager to explain, or phone the stores office if you can find the number. It will have gone into the department in the warehouse to be returned to the depot but it won’t go through easily as their systems will recognise they haven’t sold it. So if you contact them tomorrow they might be able to help. But if it’s a massive store it might just be too busy to find it this time of year to be honest.

Nasahoodie · 23/12/2023 21:53

It's doubtful you will get it back. They will probably sell it straight back on.

dingdonggooley · 23/12/2023 21:54

Are you sure you weren't pulling a fast one, OP? I've ever accidentally returned something to the wrong store and watched them try to put it through over and over again til they had to override the till.

Be honest.

Overthebow · 23/12/2023 21:57

So you bought the jumper form M&S but returned it to next? Didn’t you realise it was the wrong shop? I’m not sure you'll get it back, it kind of looks like you stole it and tried to return it for money.

SusanKennedyshouldLTB · 23/12/2023 21:59

Was this in Preston?

T1cTacT03 · 23/12/2023 22:05

Shit hasn’t gone back on. No definitely wasn’t pulling a fast one. It was from M&S. It was a black jumper and a Friends Like These. They both sell it. Well within the sell by date and can return it up until the end of January. Not sure what the point would have been me falsely trying to return it to Next.Next will have surely sent it on to the warehouse as I took it back yesterday. Will have left the store. Don’t think they sell non Next in store so they won’t think I’ve nicked it but yes I am worried as to what they’ll think and what to do.😫

OP posts:
Overthebow · 23/12/2023 22:07

Do you have the receipt with it on from M&S?

T1cTacT03 · 23/12/2023 22:08

No wasn’t Preston. How long do they hold onto items before sending back to warehouse?

OP posts:
TeaKitten · 23/12/2023 22:08

Again, check with the store… it’s the busiest time of year so they might not have processed the returns yet, it depends on how busy they are. Once it’s gone to the warehouse you’ve no chance so contact the store or accept the loss and move on.

T1cTacT03 · 23/12/2023 22:08

Yes do have an M&S receipt.

OP posts:
T1cTacT03 · 23/12/2023 22:09

Why would I have no chance? Surely they could sort something out.

They don’t hold on to them for a specific length of time, it just depends on how busy they are as they all have to be scanned into the right boxes for return.

TeaKitten · 23/12/2023 22:10

T1cTacT03 · 23/12/2023 22:09

Why would I have no chance? Surely they could sort something out.

Because it will be mixed with thousands of other items from other branches… there’s no evidence they even have it so they aren’t going to search for it.
