Help have returned an item to Next accidentally that was from another store

Took a load of online stuff back to Next and there was a jumper in the bottom of the bag from another shop but they sell it too. It wouldn’t go through but she over rode it so it did. I was sorting out the mountain of plastic that was in the bag and didn’t realise she’d pulled out the other jumper.I’ll never get the jumper back and it’s been credited to my account. Not sure what to do.

I’ve got a photo of it on the list of returns I took in on the email they sent so there is evidence I took it in and they took it.

How can it be on the email if they’ve not given you the money for it? That makes absolutely no sense. And they still wouldn’t find it in the warehouse.

It is definitely pictured on the email yet when you add up the returns in my account it’s not included. On my account only things you’ve ordered have a refund. As I didn’t order it from them it’s not included. The returns amount in my statement doesn’t include it.

Next have got those fancy barcodes so they know exactly when someone bought something and who bought it. I don't see how they scanned it and didn't realise they hadn't sold it to you in the first place.

Take all your receipts into store. Explain fully. They should either give you the sweater back or refund. As they stock it they could do either.

There will likely be a half an hour period tomorrow where they are open for 'browsing' but they can't do any transactions so you could go in then and see what they say,

I’ve got 2 emails. A receipt with all the things I took back pictured(thankfully). Jumper is on there , even with a code. Then another refund summary with everything listed but not the jumper and when I add it all up on my statement the jumper isn’t included.

It won't be on your next statement/accounts as it was returned manually. It also won't show in your bank for a couple of days but if there's a refund on the receipts for it then it'll go through, will just have to wait.

I always ask for a paper recipe when I take online orders back, you could of checked there and then if it was refunded.

It wouldn’t have been refunded there and then. You just get a receipt of what you take in. Paper is identical to the email I got.

What a bloody nightmare, the last thing I want to do is to go into Next Xmas Eve. Life is pretty stressful for us at the moment and I thought I was so organised doing returns before Xmas. 😫

I really can’t imagine anyone will be able to help you with this. It will be buried in with thousands of other items… I don’t really think you can blame Next and say they should sort something out - it isn’t their fault you mistakenly gave it to them but I don’t understand how they didn’t notice an M&S label instead of Next?! Or does it just have a brand label on?

Just had a brand label on. The thing is it kept beeping and she over rode it. I was trying to sort out all the plastic so wasn’t looking.It was at the bottom of the bag she kept taking the things out of. She was so quick and somebody just stepped in quick to over ride because it was busy. The system obviously showed up it hadn’t been bought at next or linked to my account. Really they shouldn’t have over rode it.

But that's your fault, not the sales assistant. You returned an item to somewhere you didn't buy it from.

But sometimes things malfunction and that’s why this can override. This is your error, not their error.

But she took it out of the bag and the system told her it wasn’t from there. I don’t blame her as it was busy but I do need the jumper or the money. Have been told so many times at Next don’t need the paperwork, system is faultless and all is on the label now. All I can do is ring the main office. Suspect it will be better than going in. Presume the jumper will be long gone and they’d need to check all the paperwork in my account which they could do on my phone but suspect they’d need authorisation.
