Can’t find a warm long coat without a hood!

I really need a warm long (mid calf) coat but really don’t like hoods. I’ve looked at a lot of places online but they all have hoods. Any suggestions gratefully received. Ideally something casual as I have other more formal belted coats.

Watching this with interest as I feel the same. How many grown women wear hoods? And when it's not raining they jus

....t get in the way!

TBH I'm good at sewing and have been known to remove the hoods from an otherwise decent coat.

DeathMetalMum · 03/12/2023 12:49

I have one from mountain warehouse that has a removable hood. Depending on height would be a good length, almost knee length on me but I'm 5'1. Not excessively stylish but is very warm.

ha ha yes exactly! I’m ok with a needle but would worry the collar wouldn’t sit right if removed

I wasn't going to post on this thread as it's clearly not intended for someone like me, but since you've asked: This one does.

I will concede not if it's wool or tweed, but otherwise I think a coat designed for a UK winter with no hood is the very definition of useless.

I still hope you can find something you want.

Almost all my coats have hoods. So then I can put it up when it rains! What's the point of a coat WITHOUT a hood, I would say! You then need to carry an umbrella which is REALLY annoying. And how do hoods "get in the way". They just sit on the back of your coat?!?

strawberry12345 · 03/12/2023 13:08

@DeathMetalMum thank you, a longer version of that with a removable hood would be ideal

@WhatNoUsername i can’t explain it really I just find them annoyingly bulky. I’d rather carry a brolly or wear a hat!

Another hood wearer. When it rains, here, it's often windy with it and an umbrella is useless. It. Also keeps the cold out much better.

Brollies? The most useless invention in the history of useless? Don't make me cross.

KissTheRains · 03/12/2023 13:16

I love a hood, when it's cold or rainy.

One of my favourite coats that I ever had was big German military parka with a fleece lining and huge hood. I loved that coat and why yes, I was very cool in the 90s.. thanks for asking.. 🤣

anybloodyname · 03/12/2023 13:20

I rarely put a hood up but do think they add extra warmth to the back of the neck

MixedPeel27 · 03/12/2023 13:29

Oooh no offence intended!

I've got quite long hair so hoods drive me mad. Even when they are neatly flat against my back my hair still gets caught inside and gets pushed around my face weirdly.

I honestly don't know many people who use hoods which is why I'm always baffled by their ubiquity.

EveWinter · 03/12/2023 13:32

I love a hood too! I just tie my hair back if I am putting up my hood.

OldTinHat · 03/12/2023 14:01

Have you looked in Sainsburys? I bought one from there a couple of weeks ago. No hood, mid calf and padded.
