Would this look silly on a 40 year-old?

Here
I ask because DD wears similar and she is 3 1/2

Don't. Yes, it would look silly.

And I speak as a 41 year old who is all too often dressed similarly to her 3.3 year old

SmartArse · 10/03/2008 13:03

NO! I'd wear that!

PestoMonster · 10/03/2008 13:03

No, I think it'd be fine, as long as you didn't buy stripy tights to match hers!

rookiemater · 10/03/2008 13:04

Well I think you could just about get away with it if you were really slim with good legs, size 10 max, and wore thick tights, but its still kind of pushing the boundaries in a not good way.

carmenelectra · 10/03/2008 13:04

Well i wouldnt and im 37. IT is nice. I suppose it depends on your figure?

I am usually mutton dressed as lamb by the way

SmartArse · 10/03/2008 13:05

But it's not short, is it? I've got a similar one from Hobbs, in fawn cord, which I wear with a cream polo neck and long brown boots. I thought I looked ok, but perhaps not ...

Joash · 10/03/2008 13:06

YES!!!

Carnival · 10/03/2008 13:06

It's a good shape, but maybe something longer would be better?

pedilia · 10/03/2008 13:07

I think it depends on whether you are able to carry it off!

It would look awful on some 20 year olds and great on others!

PatsyCline · 10/03/2008 13:08

I (40) would look bloody ridiculous in it whilst my friend Emma (also 40 but major gym bunny with great legs, who looks about 23) would look fine.

The question is whether the 40 years old has great legs. I did wear cute skirts like that in my 20s with flat loafers but I don't think my knees would ever forgive me if I exposed them to that now...

carmenelectra · 10/03/2008 13:08

Maybe then with tights and/or boots! Id like it better if it were knee length. Looks a bit shorter?

redwino · 10/03/2008 13:09

I'd wear that. Mind you, I am only 38.In fact I am tempted to buy it.
I think it would look great with boots.

Hassled · 10/03/2008 13:10

41 here and I wouldn't wear it - despite reasonable legs. It's not the length, it's the style and denim that screams "prepubescent" to me.

Sputnik · 10/03/2008 13:10

Hmm, it look just above knee length. I would wear it with boots and (non stripy) tights. Figure... well I'm working very hard at being a 12, and my legs are about the only thing to have survived 2 pregnancies intact.

OP posts:
SmartArse · 10/03/2008 13:11

I'd rather assumed it was knee-length. Despite being a size 8 and my legs being my best asset (apparently!), I wouldn't wear anything much shorter than knee-length these days.

DarrellRivers · 10/03/2008 13:12

depends on your legs, are they good? and how you are going to dress it.=?
ie thick tights boots etc, if all answers are yes, then go for it

Sputnik · 10/03/2008 13:12

It's the denim that worries me most too actually Hassled. Was thinking of dying it black?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 10/03/2008 13:13

YES, it would.

Even with great legs.

Sorry, but 'mutton dressed as lamb' comes to mind.

harpsichordcarrier · 10/03/2008 13:13

no it looks fine
it isn't that short, is it? about knee length, I would say
I am 38 and would wear it with boots and bare legs/wedges in the summer
and I am no stick insect

carmenelectra · 10/03/2008 13:16

The denim bit is fine i think, more the above the knee length that would a prob, but then i dont really like skirts above the knee full stop. Unless its a going to the beach/pool skirt on holiday

princessosyth · 10/03/2008 13:18

I think it would. I had one the same when I was 30 and dh admitted to me that I looked like an overgrown schoolgirl in it. Not a good look.

Sputnik · 10/03/2008 13:18

Well I do wear slightly above the knee skirts usually.

Can't you lot come to some kind of consensus here, dammit

OP posts:
Heated · 10/03/2008 13:36

No, I'd go for a better quality material, cord perhaps, or maybe a different coloured denim.

I'd fear I'd look like the female equivalent of Jeremy Clarkson

harpsichordcarrier · 10/03/2008 13:38

the consensus is that a few people will look at you and say oh she looks a bit muttony (usually women about the same age as you )
and some people will say, she looks funky, I wonder where she bought that?
and the vast majority of people will not notice

Sputnik · 10/03/2008 13:54

Right, well despite the Jeremy Clarkson factor I'm leaning towards getting it, but dying it black.

If it's not too short.

Harpsi, that is so true that most people won't notice.
