How many coats do you have?!

I need a new jacket-mine is falling apart, but it’s got me thinking about what I actually have/want/need.

I already have a

  • navy blue quilted hip length hooded jacket that I wear loads in spring/autumn and warmer winter. It’s got a bit tight now and is battered, so need to replace it-if I could find the same one (Next circa 2013), I’d probably get the same one but can’t find it.

*long padded warm M+S black coat. I like it-very flattering but barely wear it as it’s long and I’m short and it seems to get in the way!

*Wool duffle coat-love it, very warm, wear it when it’s cold but it’s not so great in the wet.

*North Face anorak type coat-bought for rainy days but it’s a bit small, rustly/noisy and I rarely wear it. Not sure why-I suppose it’s no good if it’s cold and wet so it’s only good for summer/spring wet and then I tend to just take the car or umbrella or not go out till it’s stopped!

*summer canvas jacket-lightweight and khaki-happy with this.

I rather like the idea of a waterproof warm jacket (like Chris Packham or someone else from Springwatch might wear!) as it’s functional, but when you look at them, they’re quite pricey and they also say they’re suitable for hiking or trekking. I am probably not a hiking or trekking sort of person and they probably wouldn’t really go well over my work clothes!

I also rather like the Seasalt Seafolly kind of waterproof coat but reviews suggest they are a bit rustly, so really only suitable if actually raining.

So, I think I want something that’s navy/black, hooded, hip/bum length, reasonably warm and ok in the rain, looks ok over smart-ish work clothes and not too noisy! Does anyone have any suggestions?!

Not going to count, I know I have far to many , have put a few on vinted this week and actually sold a couple .

Roystonv · 19/10/2023 21:37

ONE, a black padded jacket. Have had it for about 10 years and can be worn for smart or casual. Rarely used as I hate feeling constricted and over hot. DH despairs of me as he thinks strangers will think he mistreats me and I am not allowed one!

Even with 20+ coats I was still eyeing up a grey coat in H and M last week 🙄.
One of my coats is a black calf length with fur collar. The only time I've worn it is to a winter funeral

updownleftrightstart · 19/10/2023 21:46

I have at least 40 if we're counting jackets

PowerTulle · 19/10/2023 21:50

Quick stock check

8 leather jackets (4 vintage)
1 sheepskin flying jacket (vintage)
1 three quarter length sheepskin (vintage)
1 tweed Viv Westwood
1 smart full length Stella McCartney
1 faux fur (vintage)
1 leopard print, high street
1 long length wool, high street
1 three quarter wool, hand made
3 wax jackets (1 short 2 long)
3 down (1 jacket, 2 gilet)
1 waterproof fitted dog walking coat
1 massive extra warm dog walking coat
1 Lightweight waterproof

Are we counting jackets? 😱

I own far too many coats as with every other item of clothing.

Same

PowerTulle · 19/10/2023 21:58

Oh if we’re counting denim then 3 of those. And a camo style one. So that’s 33 ( not counting blazers etc)

mdinbc · 19/10/2023 22:06

I am glad to see the long lists... I'm not at home, but the front hall closet is mostly filled with my jackets, very few for DH. It's getting to the point where I have to take a few of mine out if I am expecting company so they get a hanger.

I have too many, but I do hang onto them for a long time. We live in a rainy, cool climate, so wear jackets or coats for most of the year.

mdinbc · 19/10/2023 22:08

And, I just bought this last week, it had its firs outing last night.

How many coats do you have?!
vestedinterests · 19/10/2023 22:08

3
thin raincoat from seasalt
thick raincoat from seasalt
Wool coat from cos

PingPowKaPowWow · 19/10/2023 22:13

Too many
A winter coat
A longer winter coat to be fixed
A leather jacket
Two blazers
A waterproof light weight coat
A fur coat
A waterproof shorter style trench coat

nokidshere · 19/10/2023 22:20

I don't own any. I've never bought a coat. I'm rarely cold and if I feel 'a bit chilly' I have a couple of long cardigans I'll wear.

TheOGCCL · 19/10/2023 23:48

Lots but somehow never quite enough. In the winter it’s all people really see of you.

I get bored of coats and jackets long before they wear out.

keffie12 · 19/10/2023 23:55

Two x leather jackets from Joe Browns. 1 in petrol blue and the other in a deep pink

1 winter coat in teal from Joe Browns

2 shawls

1 70s-style zip-up hoodie jacket from Joe Brown's in blue

1 football jacket for the club I support

Think that's it. Oh, and a bagful of gloves, scarves, and headwear I've just been sorting today.

Every winter, the glove fairy enters as spring appears and runs off with gloves. She done her magic again ✨️

Quite a few I'm a bit obsessed. 7 red coats at the last count

You can never have too many red coats
