How much does your hairdresser charge?

I’m looking to change hairdressers from a salon I’ve been going to for about 15 years. I currently pay £50 for a full head colour (brown), cut and blow dry. I have thick but short hair - just above shoulder length. They don’t offer any other finish after a colour, for example curling/waving. For context, it’s a small salon that is sort of stuck in its ways, for want of a better phrase.
I’ve seen a salon on Instagram which I really like, although it would cost £85, but with the finish I’d like. I’m not sure whether my current salon is very cheap or the new one is expensive.
I’m quite grey now and my hair grows quickly so usually have it done every six weeks or so. The option to grow out the grey isn’t on the table yet as I’m mid-30s and don’t feel ready yet.
If you have a similar service at the hairdressers, how much do you pay?

Ah, and I’m in the Midlands. In a fairly busy town about 20mins from a very large city.

Our hairdresser comes to our house and for cutting my hair and DH's she charges £20.

She's brilliant, too.

icantchangetime · 05/10/2023 18:55

I pay that just for a cut and blow dry! Well, £45 but with tip comes to £50

icantchangetime · 05/10/2023 18:56

Colour cut and blow dry would be about £130

wishfulthinking93 · 05/10/2023 18:58

Hairdresser costs do seem to vary massively by location. I’d say your current hairdresser is cheap and the one you’re looking at is pretty average. I’ve paid £130 for a full head colour, cut and treatment and that seems pretty consistent in my area (outskirts of Manchester) but on average would say it’s around £90

borisjohnsonsforgottencondom · 05/10/2023 18:58

£140 for foilage, cut and blow dry. She also includes toners, olaplex, strengthening products etc based on what my hair needs and doesn't change the price. I do think it's a lot of money but for a 3 1/2 hour appointment and for the trust I have in her, I think it's worth it! She's got a little salon n her home so it's lovely and private too

£50 for a full head of colour plus a cut and blow dry??? Christ, that’s cheap.

I pay €55 for a decent pixie/crop cut&BD from a small salon near me and I do my own colour. A lot of hairdressers are rubbish at cutting short hair well, so I’m happy to pay for a good precision cut.

£120 for full head of highlights, cut and blow dry. Small village, 30 minutes from a small city.

£75 for a cut and blow dry with the top stylist.
£175 for a half-head of foils, cut and colour.

Strawberryshortcake90 · 05/10/2023 19:19

Also Midlands. My salon charges
£30 for cut and blow dry
£48 for root touch up cut and finish,
£60 for all over colour cut and finish
£90 whole head highlights
£140 balayage

JadeSeahorse · 05/10/2023 19:23

Just outside the Peak District.

I use a small unisex salon in our village.
Both DH and I go together for a dry cut every 7/8 weeks. She charges £16.50 for the two of us but we always round it up to £20 as her cutting skills are excellent.
(I colour my own hair with semi perm every few weeks.)

mondaytosunday · 05/10/2023 19:25

Cut and blow dry with design director, outside London, £57 plus tip. But she's worth it!

Lookatmytoes · 05/10/2023 19:38

£17 - go to a great barbers:)

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 05/10/2023 19:42

Dry cut, as I have short, wavy hair £18! Local, small salon, nothing fancy, just that she was brilliantly trained and doesn't faff around, knows how my hair behaves, so charges on how long it take her every six weeks, which is about 10 - 15 minutes. Very lucky to have found a good hairdresser, as locally there really are some fancy salons with staff that don't have a clue!

bobbitybobbitybob · 05/10/2023 19:43

I pay £56 for roots, cut and blow dry but it's a friend who is a hairdresser, who works from home. I would expect to pay probably £80 in a salon

muddyford · 05/10/2023 19:44

Small local salon, excellent cutter, short hair, dry cut is £18
