I’m looking to change hairdressers from a salon I’ve been going to for about 15 years. I currently pay £50 for a full head colour (brown), cut and blow dry. I have thick but short hair - just above shoulder length. They don’t offer any other finish after a colour, for example curling/waving. For context, it’s a small salon that is sort of stuck in its ways, for want of a better phrase.
I’ve seen a salon on Instagram which I really like, although it would cost £85, but with the finish I’d like. I’m not sure whether my current salon is very cheap or the new one is expensive.
I’m quite grey now and my hair grows quickly so usually have it done every six weeks or so. The option to grow out the grey isn’t on the table yet as I’m mid-30s and don’t feel ready yet.
If you have a similar service at the hairdressers, how much do you pay?

I paid £45 for just a cut and blow dry 😢

Jennalong · 06/10/2023 13:46

Cumbria £80 for a cut & half head highlights.

I pay £27.50 to get my very short French bob wet cut and blow dried every 4-6 weeks. I don’t colour my hair, but if I did it would be £50 for a new colour and £34 to have it touched up. This is a large city in the South East.

bonbon2023 · 06/10/2023 13:59

£90

SW London, small local salon, colour cut and blow dry £ 75. Salon down the road I used to go to, twice that.

tinytemper66 · 06/10/2023 14:04

£25 for cut and blow dry. My hair is short but I still have a wash and blow dry with my cut as I prefer it.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 06/10/2023 14:07

£85 for roots, cut and blow-dry. Used to cost £50-60 pre-pandemic

Riverlee · 06/10/2023 14:09

£35 for wash and cut (prices have slowly crept up over last couple of years)

£85-100 for wash, cut, colour

Used to have home mobile hairdresser which was £15-25 cheaper, but have found a hairdresser I really like. Also, changing my hairstyle from shorter layered to longer all one length means I can go longer in between cuts, so I try and tell myself I’m not paying any more (apart from CoL/inflation price rises).

AutumnAuntie · 06/10/2023 14:34

£43 for a wash cut and blow dry, I go every seven weeks and she’ll trim my fringe in between appointments for free (I just give a tip).
I do my own colour.

kezzyleah · 06/10/2023 14:45

Cut and colour is about £140. I love my hairdresser though and don't need to get my hair done much (around 12 weeks) as it grows so so slowly.

UnpackingBooksFromBoxes · 01/07/2024 18:22

£40 cut and blow dry. I give her a £10 tip at Christmas.

Hey 👋🏼 from a salon owner who likes to keep her prices as low as I posssibly can to keep customers happy and stay busy , may I ask if you have asked for your hair to be styled the way you would like it.? I know some hairdressers can be stuck in their ways , but from a salon owner point of view I would rather a customer tell me than to lose them. And if they offer the styling but charge a few quid more then you are still getting it cheaper than going to another more expensive salon. Maybe go in with an approach of could I try this today please or can we try something a bit different, I don’t mind paying more if it takes more time etc. that way you get what you want, it makes the stylist realise people do like a change and they are not out of pocket from losing you to another salon. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Some stylists need to also realise that they need to ask if you fancy anything different for a change etc too. Hope this helps ☺️

Mine is £85 for a half head of highlights wash and cut (I've got long hair)

I go to her or she comes to me. I'm on the outskirts of London/herts Essex border and that's cheap for around here.

noodlercanoodler · 30/10/2024 15:25

Cut, root melt, full head of highlights and styled = £140

I could get it done cheaper elsewhere, but I like my hairdresser and the salon is lovely. It's about 6 minutes from my home.

In NI.

notatinydancer · 30/10/2024 16:09

Roots and blow dry £63.

RubyRooRed · 30/10/2024 16:21

ThatGoldSnail · 07/03/2025 11:40

I've just seen that my hairdresser has put a development surcharge on my appointment as I'm having my colour refreshed. I've never seen this before is that acceptable?

Snippit · 07/03/2025 11:55

My village salon charges £35 for cut and blow dry, £65 for highlights, they’re the treatments I have. I live in a village in North Derbyshire, 12 miles south of Sheffield.

I was frequenting a town centre stylist for a year in a trendy salon. The cut was getting shiter, she wouldn’t/couldn’t do multi dimensional colours, I was getting blonder and blonder, I only wanted to camouflage my grey hairs in my once brunette hair.

I know that for a village salon the prices are pretty high, but boy can my stylist cut hair. No razors in sight, a little thinning with scissors if required, my hair is so bouncy, she’s worked with my texture, so lovely and refreshing. The reason I put off going there for so long is because it’s my mums hairdressers, and she has perms, surprisingly a lot of younger stylists can’t perm hair, they’ve chosen not to learn how to do it.

thinkfast · 07/03/2025 16:26

£75 for a cut and blow dry.

2gorgeousboys · 07/03/2025 21:33

North Yorkshire town, I pay £78 for colour on my roots plus cut and blow dry. Foils instead of just my roots being covered would be an extra £30.
