I’m looking to change hairdressers from a salon I’ve been going to for about 15 years. I currently pay £50 for a full head colour (brown), cut and blow dry. I have thick but short hair - just above shoulder length. They don’t offer any other finish after a colour, for example curling/waving. For context, it’s a small salon that is sort of stuck in its ways, for want of a better phrase.
I’ve seen a salon on Instagram which I really like, although it would cost £85, but with the finish I’d like. I’m not sure whether my current salon is very cheap or the new one is expensive.
I’m quite grey now and my hair grows quickly so usually have it done every six weeks or so. The option to grow out the grey isn’t on the table yet as I’m mid-30s and don’t feel ready yet.
If you have a similar service at the hairdressers, how much do you pay?

£180 half head foils, £120 cut. Home counties. I only get my hair colored once a year as a result 😂

FelicityFlops · 05/10/2023 19:52

I was at the hairdresser's this morning. We have known one another for over 30 years, but he hasn't always cut my hair.
I pay €50 for a cut and blow dry (although I do a better blow dry than he does) and €100 for a cut, 2 colours of highlight and a blow dry.
I am very happy with what he does and thankful that he tolerates my very fine, thin hair.

£40 in SE London for a cut and blow dry. I don't colour my hair. 🧓 But that was a year ago and it was the cheapest place I could find. My teenage DD goes to a much trendier place and is charged £60 (CBD no colour) but she always comes out looking fab. DD has a layered bob, mine is just long and past my shoulders, not styled only trimmed once a year.

For the service you want it would be £155 at my hair dresser.
I get balayage, toner, cut & blow dry and it's £285...

autiebooklover · 05/10/2023 20:03

I'm in a fairly deprived area in S Yorks. £80 for full head , cut and blow dry.

Crunched · 05/10/2023 20:03

I have similar to you, every seven weeks, and pay £125. South Midlands, village salon.

Zola1 · 05/10/2023 20:04

Full head of highlights with toner and cut and blow around 150

HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/10/2023 20:05

I pay £45 for an all over colour, toner, cut, and blow dry (however I want it). Also West Midlands, around 20 minutes from a major city.

I'm changing to highlights from AOC and the quote is £60 including the toner, cut and blow.

BadBadDecisions · 05/10/2023 20:07

That so very cheap! But they don't even style it? Surely the whole point is leaving the salon with perfectly swishy hair that you then take out for the night?

bombastix · 05/10/2023 20:09

65 quid, cut and blow dry. SE London. Fair price given the quality.

DaisyDando · 05/10/2023 20:10

I pay over £200 for full head of highlights and cut. I don’t like paying it at all.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/10/2023 23:57

£70 for cut and blow dry - Aberdeen.

keffie12 · 06/10/2023 00:56

I live in North Yorkshire. My hairdresser is in our city centre (tourist for context)

I pay £100 for colour, trim, and dry with straightening afterwards. I have long hair.

£85 is reasonable. If you like it and you want a more contemporary salon, go for it

MerelyPlaying · 06/10/2023 05:03

£65 for cut and blow dry, done at home but she used to work in a London salon and I've used her ever since - about 15 years. When she started freelance it was the same price as the salon and she's only put it up twice in that time.

You 'wear' your hair every day, so it's worth investing in!

verdantverdure · 06/10/2023 05:33

If you're happy with the cut and colour you get why not ask if you could pay another £10 or £15 to have it tonged after the blow dry?

Except for Toni and Guy, which is more, all the hairdressers on our little high street would charge from about £120 for a root tint, cut and blow dry. (Surrey)

Whatshallichangemyusernameto · 06/10/2023 08:10

Wow! My current salon really is cheap! But I think the finished result reflects the price. @BadBadDecisions I often have to re-straighten it when I get home if I’m going out somewhere afterwards. I’ve also had to ask them to correct my hair (wonky cut) on a few occasions now and they’re always at least 20 minutes late so I’m growing increasingly unhappy.
I’m going to book in with the new salon I think. Thank you for all of your inputs.

£90 for colour, cut and blow dry in whatever style I want (eg will curl it).

RabbitsRock · 06/10/2023 08:20

I’m in Cornwall ( large town) & go to a lady who has her own small salon attached to her house. I pay £22 for a cut & blow dry & I think it was £65 last time for full colour with cut & blow dry. My previous hairdresser charged £37 just for a cut & didn’t do it as well as my current one.

SuffolkUnicorn · 06/10/2023 08:28

i pay 24.00 for my sons hair (he’s 8) I overheard someone having a consultation and wash cut dye blow dry was 180

PepsiMaxLime · 06/10/2023 12:57

@RabbitsRock I’m also Cornwall & looking for a new hairdresser, would you mind sharing the details via PM?

MintJulia · 06/10/2023 12:58

Cut, colour & blow dry is £85

BadBadDecisions · 06/10/2023 13:18

Ohh god then you're getting what you pay for!

Spend an extra 30 quid or so and you'll get a lovelier experience; sounds like they're taking you for granted really.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 06/10/2023 13:40

£180 for a balyage, cut and blow dry. I'm in Scotland.

Shadyboots23 · 06/10/2023 13:43

£55 dry cut (no wash)
£85 for dry cut but with wash and style/dry

Shadyboots23 · 06/10/2023 13:44
