Sosandar. Who makes it. For who? Why is the styling so weird

Every time I see it on the Marks & Spencer website it just looks weird like an old catalogue from the 1980s

I agree with a PP who said the brand appeals to women who want to look pretty/well-dressed but not fashionable. The fit doesn’t change - it’s a lot of A-line.

A big advantage for me is the use of realistically sized and aged models so the pictures do give a real sense of how the clothes will look like on. And the sizing is consistent and designed for middle-aged figures (bit of room round tummy, etc).

Also agree with PP that there are Trinny & Susannah vibes.

I totally love Sosandar. Before it started, I didn’t really feel there was any retailers that catered to my particular demographic

I'm usually a size 12 but just bought these jeans in a size 10 ( obviously vanity sizing) and had to get short length so they definitely cater for the taller woman ( I'm 5 ft 5).

Absolutely love them, fit is lovely and the material feels so.much better quality than m&s for example.

I would have preferred to buy some high waisted jeans from Sezane but they're a big out of my price range unfortunately 😕

Quite didn't work, see post below

OMG me too!! Which one are you talking about? A? She was so horrible to me on the magazine I was on, she's one of my top three worst bosses!

I always chuckle when I see her clothes advertised because she always thought she was so stylish but her range is just frumpsville. And I'm late 40s so I think I'm supposed to be the target market?

zurala · 09/09/2023 23:36

Nicesocksdude · 09/09/2023 14:04

It's all pretty naff, I agree. I'd never buy from there anyway as I used to work with one of the owners back in our magazine publishing days and she was notoriously unpleasant to everyone. Petty but true 😂

Im sorry if my intended lighthearted post was taken as a slight on the models themselves or their weight. Certainly wasn't my intention. My criticism is reserved entirely for the photographers who set the poses and lighting etc. I don't find 'edgy ' photos with girls being made up to look like drug addicts ( which I'm certain they're not) or sex worker type porno poses ( splayed legs etc) attractive when I'm choosing clothes because these aren't things I relate to or aspire to!

See also my reply to your post. The models are only posing how the photographer tells them to pose.

I was looking on a website (can't remember which one) earlier, and their "short" trouser leg length was 29". I'm 5 foot nothing...😓

It's a bit Wallis meets Roman.

Nothing wrong with either of those.

Nicesocksdude · 10/09/2023 01:29

Yes! Vile wasn’t she

Nicesocksdude · 10/09/2023 01:31

Sorry, that was at. @zurala

notacooldad · 10/09/2023 01:39

I have a fantastic na y dress from them that I can wear virtually everywhere.
I've worn I to work with heels, I've worn it ro gigs with Lanx boots and I've worn it on holiday with flip flops.
It's probably the most worn dress my wardrobe apart from my All Saints one.

Galiana · 10/09/2023 02:10

That went predictably South didn't it?

Sosander? I think it's absolutely ok. I think it provides clothes for women who want to look good, neat, a bit glamorous, don't want to frighten the horses. There are a lot of women who want to look like that, it's a comfortable and attractive aesthetic. There's no need to mock it.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/09/2023 05:19

Just had a browse, it's not on my rador at all and will remain off it. I'm late 40s and it's too frumpy for my taste. It would suit my mum's classic style but she's 75. The styling is horrific, I'm a very visual person, I love photography and art, and I find it repellent.

TerfTalking · 10/09/2023 05:49

I bought a dress from them about three years ago, it was beautiful and lovely quality, came in a nice box with tissue. I was really excited I’d found a new brand. I’ve never seen anything I’ve liked since. They don’t send me their catalogue anymore.

memote · 10/09/2023 06:23

It reminds me of the way Kate Middleton is normally styled, very safe, a bit twee, older, groomed etc. I'm surprised so many are criticising it.

MaidOfSteel · 10/09/2023 06:50

I can only speak for the quality of the dozen or so pieces I have from Sosandar. Absolutely great!

MmePoppySeedDefage · 09/09/2023 11:38

It's rather German in style in my eyes, rather hard-edged, but smart and often shiny.

This model looks like she despises me:

Blimey Poppy think you have upset her, what did you do? 😃

frogswimming · 10/09/2023 07:22

This thread has inspired me to look at their clothes more closely. I think I'm the demographic.

I like these
https://www.sosandar.com/dark-indigo-wide-leg-pintuck-jeans
and they do a 33" leg
Looks like there tops are fitted at the waist which isn't always the case these days - mostly stuff hangs from my big boobs not very flatteringly.

I do too, but who has styled them with those white stilettos and even when you watch hee video, it’s worse

Yes it's the fitted at the waist dresses that suit me. I prefer to wear shapes that are flattering to my figure, but I'm aware that many women choose not to. Entirely up to them.

On the length issues, In 5' 3" and a 29 inch length would be too short for me - perhaps I'm the leggy trophy wife 😂😂😂😂😂 (I'm not, I'm happily divorced)

Yeah i just got these they're really nice on. Reslly thick material. I'm going to buy a pair of ankle boots to go with them for winter.

Obviously according to some people on this thread, that means I'm an aging newsreader? ( or something) don't care!

Also I got them for £38 instead of £55 because you get 30% off if you use the app 👍

Why are you watching videos of women modelling a brand of clothing you aren't interested in buying? And starting a thread about it? Seems like a pretty strange way to spend one's time if you ask me but then I guess I don't know anything about clothes. 😅

QualityCorner · 10/09/2023 09:20

Agree with @MmePoppySeedDefage - I always get German vibes. Germany in the 80s

It looks quite classic to me. The kind of thing that suits your body shape, rather than follows the latest trends.

I'm glad you posted, OP. I'd not heard of it, but think I like it!

It's got new versions of items I wore to death and wasn't able to replace Grin

You know that 'really useful' shirtwaister, and the denim catsuit that made you look fabulous and formula one when you were sixteen?

This!
I used to wear trendy, drab (? - more or less exclusively grey /navy / black) clothes. But now everything is not fitted / sack like/ vanity sized so I'm out of luck. I'll have a look at this brand in case there's things not made of polyester.
