Sosandar. Who makes it. For who? Why is the styling so weird

Every time I see it on the Marks & Spencer website it just looks weird like an old catalogue from the 1980s

Gosh. So rude.

"There's no snobbery on this thread."
"You clearly don't know anything about clothes if you don't think online styling is important."
"I think you'll find, it's just pointing out your ignorance."

Can you even hear yourself?

I don't care about online styling because I'm not a model who only wears these clothes (probably altered with twenty five staples at the back to make them look flattering when they actually aren't) in order to be photographed against a white background for a website.

I care about what clothes are going to look like, on my body, in real life.

That doesn't mean I don't know anything about clothes. It means I don't know the things you think are important about clothes (and I don't), and you don't know the things I think are important about clothes.

@continentallentil Well….I’m not from Cheshire or Essex and I’m successful in my own right. But, I like their jeans, have lots of those and over the last 5ish years have bought 2 or 3 dresses that I really like and 1 jumpsuit that I love and wear all the time. Genuinely give not a shit about what’s fashionable/stylish to other people, or not. If I like it, I buy it and wear it. Each to their own…..

Lavenderandbrown · 09/09/2023 19:03

It reminds me of an early 2000’s USA catalog called Boston Proper which did disappear for awhile may be back in some format. When I was younger with two children it just seemed too fancy and sexy for real life. Definitely fitted,cleavage-focused, and try hard with heels.

EvelynBeatrice · 09/09/2023 19:17

Im sorry if my intended lighthearted post was taken as a slight on the models themselves or their weight. Certainly wasn't my intention. My criticism is reserved entirely for the photographers who set the poses and lighting etc. I don't find 'edgy ' photos with girls being made up to look like drug addicts ( which I'm certain they're not) or sex worker type porno poses ( splayed legs etc) attractive when I'm choosing clothes because these aren't things I relate to or aspire to!

Lavenderandbrown · 09/09/2023 19:20

I thought the very same thing looking at the me and em catalog this morning. Extremely tall and lanky with hugely oversized fashions and odd poses and so $$$$!

cantstaymadatyou · 09/09/2023 19:56

I’m early 40s and assumed they were for an older demographic. Not a bad thing, just not for me.

I assume they go to the expense of these shoots because their pics go to multiple retailers. Sosander is sold everywhere now, from M&S to Next, so the style probably has to work for all places.

NatashaDancing · 09/09/2023 20:06

CinnamonJellyBeans · 09/09/2023 10:27

Don't worry @NatashaDancing , you are still the most judgemental snob on here.

Try reading your comment back to yourself. Your sneering about ageing trophy wives not using their brains is one of the nastiest I've read in a while.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 09/09/2023 20:06

sez you

I think the photo shoots are using back drops , not real locations.

I don't know the brand at all. The website puts me off from the start but aren't they the same as Mint Velvet? I can never work out who Mint Velvet targets either.

Buildingthefuture · 09/09/2023 20:16

@NatashaDancing i have bought a few bits from Mint Velvet, mostly jumpers/knitwear. They have been RUBBISH….bobbily and pilled after 2 or 3 washes, always as per washing instructions. At around £90 each, they are just not worth it!

MotherofGorgons · 09/09/2023 20:20

Meh @EvelynBeatrice you don't need to apologise. I don't like grumpy slouchy models either. I get enough of that from my teens!
I will say Sosandar is quite...white, isnt it? I am not and I can't tell how a lot of colours will look against my darker skin.

Winniewoooooooo · 09/09/2023 20:22

I bought a denim dress. Loved it. Zip through. Washed once inside out and came out like a dish cloth. Phoned customer services. Just ended up going round in circles. Totally unhelpful.

Freepo · 09/09/2023 20:23

I love it. I’m late 30s - actually married to a surgeon but I out earn him with my own money, (which does require me to get “tired from using my brain”), and not do I have the long legs to be envious of.

I wore a red sequin dress to a couple of parties last Christmas and I felt really good in it, and had loads of comments.

I accept I’m not a fashionista but I don’t really get the hate for it on this thread

CantFindTheBeat · 09/09/2023 20:54

ZolaBudd · 09/09/2023 13:35

I think that that woman married to eamonn Holmes wears it

Ruth Langsford - newscaster, TV presenter, broadcaster with a 30+ year career.... 'that woman married to Eamonn Holmes'......

Who needs sexism when we have our very own version, hey?

User23452 · 09/09/2023 21:02

I’ve got a sosander dress - it is very flattering and easy to wear - definitely not a trophy wife, perhaps a bit of a dress addict. Nobody has ever accused me of fashionable that’s true.

Eww yes- mango and Zara are the absolute worst for this. I don’t buy any of their clothes anymore because I can’t face scrolling through the rows and rows of contorted grumpy models

Jacopo · 09/09/2023 22:16

I can't help thinking that some brands must be losing money due to the recent fad for styling their clothes on models with crazed, expressionless faces and contorted bodies. Raey, for example.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 09/09/2023 22:21

Definitely TV presenter/newsreader type clothing.

I think it's the fact that it is so fitted and with heels that makes it look a bit dated .

ZolaBudd · 09/09/2023 22:40

Whatever . I’m not interested

I'm always fascinated by the Sosander catalogue and actually spend time thinking about the demographic every time I see it.

I always imagine ageing trophy wife, implants and expensive highlights and dentistry. She always has a tan from her holidays. She doesn't have a real job.

I feel a little jealous of her sometimes as she doesn't get tired from using her brain all the time and I want her long legs.

Ouch

shivermetimbers77 · 09/09/2023 23:05

Well, I really like Sosandar clothes: their dresses look great and always fit perfectly. I am mid, 40s, tall, like classic clothes , particularly dresses, and don’t give much of a shit about fashion trends so perhaps I’m their demographic 😅
