Sosandar. Who makes it. For who? Why is the styling so weird

Every time I see it on the Marks & Spencer website it just looks weird like an old catalogue from the 1980s

It's not my cup of tea but it's obviously popular or M&S wouldn't have partnered with them. I think some of their stuff is similar to Per Una from a few years ago so it's possibly the people who liked that style. Each to their own.

And I prefer models to - shock horror - look happy and stand in a way that enables you to see the clothes you’re thinking of buying. Skinny weird druggy looking miseries arranged in strange often over sexualised poses which don’t show the entire garment are not to my taste, although I’m sure the male photographer gets lots of praise for his arty style.

Oh yes, the number of times I've seen a model with scraggly hair and a gormless expression, shoulders slumped, and feet turned outwards, looking like a lobotomized escapee from a Victorian asylum! Just awful.

ZolaBudd · 09/09/2023 13:35

I think that that woman married to eamonn Holmes wears it

It's all pretty naff, I agree. I'd never buy from there anyway as I used to work with one of the owners back in our magazine publishing days and she was notoriously unpleasant to everyone. Petty but true 😂

LaRevolution · 09/09/2023 14:26

Ah I've just looked up the founders - one article said they were "Wilmslow-based" and it's all falling into place for me now! It's a very Cheshire look.

GettingStuffed · 09/09/2023 14:43

I own a Sosander dress, it's black. Two layers under layer is a black jersey slip and the top layer is like black crochet lace. It's very pretty on and so easy to dress up for a posh
do.

Isitautumnyet23 · 09/09/2023 14:57

Ive seen a couple of nice playsuits, but the dresses look abit ‘stiff’ (if thats the right word!) and uncomfortable. I do think they are aimed at an older demographic (and I agree with the post above about aimed at the tanned trophy wife type) 😆

DaphneduM · 09/09/2023 14:58

There's a lot of Sosander on Vinted. I bought a few dresses from there and find their fit is actually quite flattering. I wouldn't be paying full price from their website though.

fairyfluf · 09/09/2023 15:02

Naga Munchetty wore one if their dresses on the telly once

becarefulofyourheart · 09/09/2023 15:06

I like Sosander clothes, not for everyday but some of the occasion wear is rather nice. I’m 42, size 14, tall and curvy. True, some of it is quite nineties, I hadn’t thought of that. Fit used to be a big thing, all these mad flappy smock dresses make me look Ted Danson in Three Men and a Baby when he’s doing the drug-dealer entrapment and pretending to be a laydee.

BringMeTea · 09/09/2023 15:06

I could see Jill Dando or Natasha Kaplinski in it.

Back21970 · 09/09/2023 15:24

I’m 58 and have a few of their dresses - I generally like their stuff but agree it’s probably a bit dated.

Laughing at the ageing trophy wife comments as it’s spot on, and not a bad look in my opinion.

The brand that is, not me personally, I’m just ageing in general 😂

MargotBamborough · 09/09/2023 15:44

I'm quite surprised at the snobbery on this thread.

I don't have anything from there but I've often liked the look of their things when browsing the John Lewis site for a specific type of clothing.

I would like to look fashionable but I would also like to look nice, and when shapeless sludge coloured sacks are what are in fashion then you kind of have to choose one or the other. I guess Sosandar is aimed at women who want to look nice in clothes that flatter them.

Mirabai · 09/09/2023 17:07

If you see how the founders dress you’ll see where the problem lies #bitchyme

I imagine it’s where Dorien from Birds of a Feather got all her clothes.

continentallentil · 09/09/2023 17:28

I think it’s very Cheshire / Essex, for women who want the footballer/plastic surgeon/v successful builder’s wife look, but aren’t actually married to one and don’t have the dosh.

This is not meant to be snotty, I just think that’s who it’s aimed at.

I am sure they look a lot better than me too.

continentallentil · 09/09/2023 17:30

Or who want to look like Holly or Christine or Alex on the sofa, kind of thing..

Farmhouse1234 · 09/09/2023 17:56

I always think of Amanda Holden when I look at the catalogue. I’ve bought a few bits from them, a lovely jacket that goes with jeans and another one for work.
I do see what you mean about the styling, some of the clothes are a bit too glamorous / tight for me.

I also get lots of other brochures through for other brands and they all seem to be baggy shapeless clothes. And some of the prices - crazy money.

I am 50 though - so maybe more my demographic

ZolaBudd · 09/09/2023 18:29

It’s not snobbery, it’s just shit styling

Bit of a big ask to see Jill Dando in it really

I don't really care about the styling, I care about what the clothes look like. Fashionable but hideous clothes on models with body types very few women have against a bright white background are of no interest to me or I imagine many other women.

There has been a lot of snobbery on this thread though.

You obviously know, nothing about clothing if you don’t consider styling online important

Snobbery. Right there.
