A really killer jumpsuit for my 40th

Turning 40 shortly and having a big birthday party. I want to wear a really sharp jumpsuit/outfit for my party. Would love some ideas to broaden it out for a killer party outfit for the occasion. Any suggestions?

General outlines: my style is more androgynous/structural/dramatic. I rarely wear dresses. Nothing "pretty"; I'm way more likely to wear a waistcoat and wide-legged trousers than a floral dress. My hair is currently like the attached picture, although NB that's NOT me; I have dark hair and eyes. I'm short (5'2"), and wear a size 8 overall. Good arms/abs/shoulders which I'm happy to show off. Budget... aaargh... let's say £250? Basically, I want to look eyecatching and dramatic and edgily stylish. So, you know, no pressure. :)

Buy a cool jumpsuit from Wildfang. They’re so comfortable and nice quality.

It’s a fair amount of work to do that so expensive and fiddly as the sash goes a bit below the waist. You’d need to buy 2 dresses if you want the same material to make the trousers and accept that you’d have a cut at the waist, rather like the 2 tone mango one. Alternatively you could get some contrasting coloured fabric.

If you were prepared to forgo the intricate pleating, I personally would find it far easier to buy a one shouldered jumpsuit and some satin fabric then recreate a similar look off the shoulder by sewing the satin on top of the jumpsuit, rather being part of the bodice (which it is on the actual dress). You could then go for a contrasting fabric if you like 2 tone.

You’d have to have a chat with your seamstress to see what she can come up with.

That sort of look on the bodice would be easier to create than the dress you posted op as the ruching is an overlay. Then you could go for the bow detail you like from your pic.

I'd love a jumpsuit - I'm long of legs and body. But my long body gives me a wedgie on everything I try! I'm going to sift through these too though, and persevere! Some lovely suggestions.

I instantly also thought of Nancy Mac; the cut of their jumpsuits is amazing. However if you are 5'2" they will be too long, unless they do a petite range. I am 5'10" and it's the only place I can get jumpsuits the perfect length.

I love Reiss; am too fat for it now, but I would totally second looking at their range. Jigsaw's cut is also usually fantastic. Last shop I'd suggest is Anthropologie.

I own the second of these Nancy Mac jumpsuits and always get complimented on it. If you liked them, frankly I'd just call to talk to the designer and explain you need petite. It gives a contact number on the sizing page.

Joanie's website seems to be broken today but the Pacino velvet tigerprint jumpsuit is the most gorgeous thing ive ever seen (would have bought it myself but nothing fancy enough to wear it to!). Long deep sleeves though and the run tall i think so may not work for your dinky wee self (I mean this as a compliment!)

The Top Shop one is gorgeous and you seem to really like it. If you can't get it in the regular size, then given the price and your budget you could definitely afford to buy it in the tall size and have it altered. I'd wear with killer heels and unusual bracelet & earrings. Fab!
