Can someone kindly recommend me some good soap bars to use daily? I use dove white color soap bar but feel it doesn't really clean.

Pears or Johnson's baby soap.
Always happy to receive a gift from The Clovelly Soap Company. Love their soaps.

Tbh I use a dettol soap, I even use dettol soap in the shower then go in with a nicer smelling shower gel - I find double cleansing gets me really clean.

SingingSands · 14/08/2023 22:52

Pears (although I find they disappear the quickest being glycerine, I love the gold bar, I could almost eat it)

Imperial Leather - grew up with this and parents are still loyal to it so it reminds me of home

TK Maxx - I buy the boxed Italian soaps, especially the citrus ones. They last ages and smell divine. I keep the unused ones in my knicker drawer 😄

Waitrose - I like the "bluebell" scented white soap bars

Does the Dettol one not smell terribly nice?

Twwodoorsaway · 14/08/2023 22:56

Friendly soap, I bulk buy it online and use nothing else. Lovely fragrance and very soft and easy to use. Made in Yorkshire by a small company which appeals to me.

minipie · 14/08/2023 23:05

Simple soap here. Cheap and not too harsh but also proper soap unlike Doves. Wouldn’t use it for my face (Cerave for that) but for everything else it’s perfect.

Friendly Soap
Faith in Nature
Mission Pebble
Random stuff fromTKMaxx
Lemon shaped/smell soap from the south of France

WanderingWitches · 14/08/2023 23:24

It's not even just the big supermarkets that haven't cottoned on. I couldn't find any other than the usual palmolive/pears/Imperial Leather type in Body Care, Boots or Superdrug.

Oakiedoakie · 14/08/2023 23:44

I think the original Pear's amber coloured soap is the best, lathers really cleanly, has a comforting, medicinal sort of smell, doesn't leave a residue.

No, it smells nothing like the Dettol you use for disinfecting things! It smells fresh and a tiny bit lemony, it's really nice.

Vicliz24 · 15/08/2023 08:28

My absolute favourites for a treat are Roger and Gallet particularly the Fleur de Osmanthus but I live at the soap shelves in Tkmaxx too . So many gorgeous soaps there .

MotherWol · 15/08/2023 08:47

I like the Petit Olivier Marseilles soap, you can usually find it in TK Maxx for around £3. The lemon verbena and the orange blossom fragrances are really nice and fresh.

Hedjwitch · 15/08/2023 08:48

Dove smells gorgeous. We all use it.

ParisDispatches · 15/08/2023 08:53

We only use L'Occitane soaps. We have a large bar in the shower & small one by the bathroom sink. Liquid soap by the kitchen sink.

Having said that I bought an Irish soap recently & love it. The hotel was using a lovely range in the rooms & then I noticed they were selling the full size bars at reception so bought one.

I find regular soaps very drying & I detest the smell & texture of dove. I find it slimey

Fourlegsandatail · 15/08/2023 08:59

Dove isn’t soap. Basic soap such as Imperial Leather works well. I avoid transparent soaps as they don’t seem as effective. For a treat any French soap is amazing - Savin de Marseille is particularly gorgeous.

justasking111 · 15/08/2023 09:18

I bought some aloe Vera soap on holiday once. That was gorgeous.

That’s good to hear; the pp above mentioned that they then used a nicer smelling shower gel after using it which made me wonder!

Most independent health food stores will have loose unpackaged soap. I love the Alternative range by Suma (major health foods wholesaler). They're round and all the varieties smell delicious. Palm oil and cruelty free.

Drews · 15/08/2023 09:31

Savon de Marseille. The original stuff that has been made for centuries in every flavour imaginable. There are tons of stockists online.

barbarahunter · 15/08/2023 09:38

Another vote for French soaps. I love goats milk soap too.

poppym12 · 15/08/2023 09:43

I've used Cidal for years but I can't find it anywhere now. It must have been discontinued for some reason.

madeinmanc · 15/08/2023 10:25

I used to like Dettol Sensitive for an everyday one but it was an unlikely victim of the pandemic. Went from being stocked everywhere to just on Ocado.

BTW veggies/vegans watch out for Lidl's own brand soap, I was checking the ingredients the other day and it had tallow in.

Cricketbelle · 15/08/2023 22:30

madeinmanc · 14/08/2023 21:03

It seems like the big supermarkets haven't cottoned on that people are moving towards soap for environmental reasons. They should be offering more variety and own brand options that are environmentally friendly with out costing a fortune.

what @madeinmanc says

orchardsquare · 15/08/2023 22:39

I like imperial leather or coal tar soap as they leave me feeling really clean - agree Dove has a nice smell but doesn't clean very well. We also have Pears or Palmolive green for just washing hands.
