Make up brand for DD just starting to show interest

My DD aged 12 has just recently started to show interest in make up - can anyone advise of what sort of brands this age group are interested in so I can show her and get her some bits to experiment with over the summer?

Benefit. Not cheap, but a few bits may feel nice to have. Otherwise browse through Superdrug, which will have plenty of choice and price points. Does she know any brands her friends have talked about?

hairyunicorn · 20/07/2023 17:05

Glossier seems like a good 'starter' brand

User478 · 20/07/2023 17:09

I don't know how "good" they are, but I would have killed for some of these when I was 12. www.revolutionbeauty.com/uk/en/collabs

DD liked benefit efit, Revolution and whatever was on offer in Superdrug at that age

listsandbudgets · 20/07/2023 17:28

Beneilfit have a sale on their website with lots of last Christmas gifts sets well reduced

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 20/07/2023 17:46

Revolution at Superdrug

Worth having a conversation about why she wants to wear make up, where she's going to wear it, peer pressure, what about school, sport-all that sort of thing,

This, she doesn't need it and the best thing you can as her mother is give her the confidence to understand that.

SoberCurious2 · 20/07/2023 18:34

Revolution

Batterymarble · 20/07/2023 18:34

Do you have a macarthur glen type place near you? They often have a make up shop with Revolution stuff heavily reduced.

RachelGreensHair · 20/07/2023 18:41

Elf
Revolution
Morphe

SellFridges · 20/07/2023 19:05

DD likes Elf (and their skincare), Glossier, and Benefit. She’s also had the cheap Revolution palettes.

Louise295 · 20/07/2023 19:09

Collection cosmetics have so many nice products and high end dupes at such affordable prices. Great for pre teens / teens

HopelessEstateAgents · 20/07/2023 19:09

Benefit for kids 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Only on Mumsnet

SirenSays · 20/07/2023 19:12

Colourpop. Great for younger people and really good quality.

RoseMartha · 20/07/2023 19:15

I was going to suggest Primark but looks like it will be frowned upon

This! It actually isn't that bad

Beachhutnut · 20/07/2023 19:19

Barry M is non toxic and vegan/ cruelty free and cheap as chips

Badbudgeter · 20/07/2023 19:21

I was going to suggest Aldi tbh. They actually do decent make up. I wear concealer / tinted moisturiser from there. My kids watch make up tutorials on YouTube so find out if they are doing the same and check out the look to see what you need to buy.

CandleWick4 · 20/07/2023 19:32

I would try Elf. They tend to do ‘dupes’ of the higher end stuff at a good price and often have trending/influencer type products she might be into or have seen.

Bobbybobbins · 20/07/2023 19:43

Superdrug has lots of fun looking cheaper brands

listsandbudgets · 20/07/2023 20:49

DD had birthday money for her 12th birthday and specially asked to spend it on Benefit and she loved every bit of it - hence my suggestion to the OP.

I don't wear makeup so had no ax to grind either way - I tried in my earlier teens and decided it wasn't for me - I'm perfectly happy without it. However, DD is very artistic and enjoys that side of make up as well as using it for her appearance.

ABugWife · 20/07/2023 21:00

Morphe is decent quality at a reasonable price for starting our.

KatyS36 · 20/07/2023 21:49

Hello, I took dd to super drug at that age to by stuff for fun. She has mild acne and I also took her to spacenk to get colour matched for an hour glass concealer which is perfect.

maybebalancing · 20/07/2023 23:56

Dd is a wee bit older but Elf seems good.
