Clothes to keep cool for fatty going to hot holiday

Help! I am a size 20 and need to source some clothes that I won’t melt in for two trips: one to Croatia in a few weeks and the second to Singapore in October where it will be relentlessly humid. The second trip will also involve another trip to an island including a jungle trek…So I need a mix of the right clothes for this plus resort and city wear!
If anyone can find loose, comfortable, cool clothes for big sizes and links to them, I would be most grateful. Bonus points for swimsuits (huge chest so always a challenge).

I love this from Whistles....55% linen 45% cotton, it's a gorgeous colour, I think would work for day or night, but keeps on selling out

Let me guess you’re not a size 20?
This is a tent!!

OP I find Roman good and they’ve got some different cropped trousers you could try

would dresses and chub rub shorts work even for more active stuff? I always feel coolest in dresses. Sea salt ones are good too

LacieLane · 19/07/2023 09:24

Vinted.
Type cotton or linen into the search bar and filter by size. You can also filter by brand. Some real bargains.

@Gonnawashmymouthout you may be right. Sorry if i caused offence . I am so sick of women putting themselves down. Yes you can be heavy and beautiful. You can be skinny and beautiful. I am just so sick of women having to feel that they have to describe themselves as FAT or SKINNY or OLD . We are just women and we need to build each other up. And lets face it. Calling someone fat is not self empowering for the most part. Most of us who have faced weight issues KNOW that most of the time it is someone Insulting us. I used to be alot heavier and my husband once said to me .. after I came home so upset because someone had commented on how much weight I had gained, he said.. she may be skinny.. but if you choose to you can lose weight, but she will always be a mean rude cunt. So I stand beside my words. Do not call ourselves FAT, UGLY, SKINNY we are all beautiful women as long as we are nice people.

Brilliant post. You are right. I’m struggling with my weight at the moment, ie I can’t seem to bloody lose any Grin, and your words have made me feel so much better, thank you.

Can't help on clothes but get a 'cooling' towel, you wet it and hang it around your neck and they do work. I'm someone not happy when the temp goes above 20 C.

Yes, but if you go around telling people you are beautiful and wonderful all the time it does come across as blowing your own trumpet. It's human and ok to feel fat/old/skinny/ugly sometimes. False positivity can just minimise big emotions.

The thing is to be able to separate whatever your external appearance looks like from the internal person - I know I'm the same person and have been size 8 to 18 as an adult. And to know that you are fine, just as you are.

SockGoddess · 19/07/2023 10:17

For a jungle trek, although it will be hot, you’ll want to be covered up in case of biting insects, so I second Millets (and similar) for light cargo type hiking trousers. When I did a jungle trip I had some that zipped off so they could be trousers or shorts, they were great. Wear with a vest top and a long loose lightweight linen shirt with long sleeves, so you can be covered up or take off if needed.

Another tip from when I’ve been somewhere hot is put on clothes damp. Doesn’t work for everything but it will with a loose dress or shirt. Put on straight from the wash, or spray with water and you’ll stay cool for a while. Obviously not for a posh night out!

Sweaty Betty do a capri trouser made from a fabric which is soooo cool. Let me try and find detail…. Better than wearing shorts as the fabric sits cool on the leg.

Which trousers are these? TIA

Rina66 · 19/07/2023 12:54

@User63847484848 the OP said loose and comfortable, so I posted a loose Whistles dress in a lovely holiday colour - why do loose clothes have to be described as 'tents', 'babies rompers' or looking like a flying squirrel? I think there's a place and occasion for every type of clothing and I certainly wouldn't be derogatory in my description of someone's interpretation of the brief.

NanFlanders · 19/07/2023 13:03

For lighter under-skirt/dress anti-chafing shorts (made of tights material) try 'underpops' from Popsy clothing or 'chub rubs' from Snag.

HollywoodTease · 19/07/2023 13:12

I also bought this earlier this year.

Got it to wear over a bikini top and swim shorts (bear in mind I'm 5' tall size 22ish top (38HH boobs) and size 18 bottom.

Wore it on a carribbean cruise in April when we were in the Dominican and Haiti, and got so may compliments that I now wear it at home but with a black cami vest and black chub rub shorts under.

The material is a sort of mesh so quite cool when you're moving about.

Plus it's cheap as chips!

Incidentally it's more or less ankle length on me as I'm so short......😳

Wow thank you so much for all the links! Am working my way through brands I have not used before so this is great. Apologies for using the inflammatory word ‘fatty’. I actually hate it but was trying to get the message across in the headline rather than plus size woman which takes up more rooms on the page.

And perhaps loose was misleading too. I do agree that loose can make me look even larger and can be very unflattering.
Really like the link to the Next dress though I wonder what it would look like on a larger frame? It may be too bodycon to
work! But loved the pattern.

Am checking out the Millets trousers and will try and hunt down the Sweatty Betty ones though in my experience their cropped leggings are nearly always Lycra. They’ve also changed the fabric of their Gary pants to something of much lower quality which just isn’t as flattering! Why?!

Thanks for the poster who suggested viscose - that’s the sort of thing I am after. A sort of drapey, chiffon style fabric.

And I LOVE a the one hundred stars stuff. I did look at it before the kind poster sent the link coincidentally but worried that they would be too much like PJs? Also wonder what their sizing is like as some of their stuff is ‘one size’ which is OK if you are not either end of a bell curve like me! Thanks again and I will keep looking on here for any new info and will update.

I have some 100 stars loose trousers which I got off ebay - the one size fits all ones. They are amazing. The waistband is 52" so would fit most sizes, but the fabric is so light that when you pull the drawstring to fit they don't look (or feel) bunched up or uncomfortable. The legs are kind of weighted at the bottom with a thicker cuff, which means they don't flap about like pyjamas but swing stylishly! I'd definitely recommend them.

Snag Tights chub rub!! They are a game changer :D

justteanbiscuits · 19/07/2023 15:17

Also, look at Zanzea brand on Amazon for day clothes. My current 'uniform' is their midi dresses with either Snag tights chug rub or their capri tights, or the Zanzea cropped cotton pants (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B44PFB2J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) with loose linen tops (eg https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B079XF1ZMQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I'm really bad for finding one thing I like and then just replicating it in a variety of colours!!

I'm spending all summer in a couple of dresses and a few tanks from manners London. G cups here, (size 20ish) but NO BRA required. I kid you not.

These dresses are only fitted around the chest and although fabric is thick it is also breezy and super comfly. Plus belly is disguised. She's just released a swimwear range but I dont have any.

Asri Dress in Black

THIS dress is something I dreamt of but never got it quite right, until now, the ASRI dress. It's sexy, sassy, classic, spinny, high titty, panelled perfection (if I say so myself) and will take you all through summer and Autumn and into winter (I know...

Snag do reasonably priced chub rub shorts in a rainbow of colours, also some swimwear etc, might be worth a look? You could also try Laundry B for loose dresses and tops, nothing is expensive. Good luck, have fun and enjoy your trips!

Oldraver · 19/07/2023 16:56

Have a look at George Asda linen mix dresses

cobden28 · 19/07/2023 18:24

I'm a size 22 and find the UK summer heat uncomfortable, never mind in foreign climes ! Elasticated waist shirts & trousers are your best friends, preferably in cotton or cotton mixes to absorb sweat . I don't reccommend anything with linen or viscose because these materials crease easily and need maximum ironing to look their best, and you don't want to be washing & ironing on holiday, do you?

Unless I can find a lightweight floaty style of summer top that's long enough to cover my belly and hide my backside I like to wear a man's cotton teeshirt for comfort and practicality; size XXL fits me fine but if you're a size 20 then an XL should fit.

Needmoresleep · 19/07/2023 19:04

I spent three years living in SE Asia. It is really hot and sticky. Loose baggy legged trousers and floaty tops. Stuff you can wash easily and change two or three times a day. It rains a lot so better if it is something that dries quickly. I preferred long sleeves, but then I burn easily. Comfortable flat sandals are good as are hats.
