Going strong for more than 8 years! Full of great reviews, reports of empties and despair over our ever growing stashes!

@MidnightMeltdown I started with 130 last January and managed to get to 40ish by October so purchased 2 AC (the LiB came with a beauty box too). but I did check the contents and tried to choose wisely - ha! I've also succumbed to 3 Liberty kits (maybe 4) but I've been giving away any make up I won't use and just discovered vinted so popping the odd thing on there too.

Looks like you have a system that works for you and 100 really not too bad :)

Fraaahnces · 28/07/2023 08:24

I have ADHD and know I do best with routines. Unfortunately skincare is the only kind of routine I have ever stuck to!

Cyclingmummy1 · 28/07/2023 08:24

Inspired by pp to have a quick stash count. It's around 50! But that includes 8 minis from last week's beauty drop and 3 items gifted by a parent at the end of term so 40 really. Though I thought it was a lot less 😆.

Empties -

a little pot of Haeckels clay mask last night. Felt nice but I prefer Beauty Pie.

Aveda be curly curl enhancer. I like it but prefer Redken and have a tube of Umberto to finish be I RP anything.

Experiment627 · 28/07/2023 08:51

Thanks so much @Peridot1 .... in desperation on the way back from nursery (where the choice is really bad) I went with the Simple one... I have a feeling I try to avoid Simple so this was probably a bad move on my part but I was desperate!

I have one empty:

  • Bioderma sensibio H20 micellar water: this is HG for me. No doubt I will RP at some point. I use this when I need a quick cleanse or an eye make-up remover.

@Fraaahnces hmm... I feel like my stash storage is rather pedestrian compared to yours! I just put in boxes in a cupboard in the hall. I used to have my stash spread all over - it really helps me to have all in one place, except for the products I have in use - and those are spread everywhere!

@Experiment627 it scares me and my bank balance that I have found my people.
I heading for a facial today at a local salon. Its all DMK products so I will keep you all posted !

Peridot1 · 28/07/2023 12:19

I’ve started my stock take. 37 unopened full size skin care items.
Have still got mini/trial size skin care to go.
Haven’t done masks yet.
Plus hair stuff.
Plus body stuff.
Plus shower and bath stuff.
Plus soaps.
Plus make up.

Yikes.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/07/2023 12:35

I've just had a clearout of the bathroom and chucked a few dregs

Superdrug nourishing hair mask, this made my hair really greasy

Superdrug caffine scalp scrub, again dried my scalp out too much.

Welda light skin food, I used most of this but throwing the last bit out as I do not like it. It leaves my skin feeling tacky and sweaty, would not repurchase!

SwordBilledHummingbird · 28/07/2023 12:41

I'm really proud of myself for avoiding the current Cult Beauty GWP. When I saw the email I immediately started to fill up my basket but then I stopped to think (happens occasionally 😂) and realised that I neither want or need anything in the GWP. So why was I looking to spend £175 to get something that will just cause me stress (because I'll feel bad about myself for growing the stash). So instead I bought the perfume sample sets that I was already intending on buying and removed the extra things from my basket. I 'm sure there's interesting psychological things going on there anyway.

And just to add to the chorus, my beauty/perfume addiction brings me great joy too. I know it's frivolous but that's partly why it's so much fun. And I'm so glad I found these threads so I can my frivolous joy (and despair at times!). Life can be hard and it's nice to have some light relief rather than everything being serious all the time.

Peridot1 · 28/07/2023 13:28

Same here @SwordBilledHummingbird. I had a look and was tempted briefly but thought it was quite a big spend required and remembered I had a Space NK one recently and I haven’t even used anything from it yet. And then was tempted yesterday by the new Space NK edit - mainly because of the kit bag it comes with. Although I already have two similar ones!

Experiment627 · 28/07/2023 15:46

@Maighnuad hope you have a lovely facial!

@SwordBilledHummingbird so proud of you 💜 there is definitely a lot at work here - including limiting beliefs and emotional blocks. I am an EFT practioner so actually know how to lessen those but in this case: I do not want to 🤣🤣🤣

@LivingDeadGirlUK I am not a fan at all of the regular Weleda Skin Food. The lighter one works way better for me but basically gives no shade to Garnier body repair or other way cheaper body lotions.

@Experiment627 I'd feel silly telling anyone in real life that I'm proud of myself for not buying things I don't need or even particularly want but I knew the people here would understand!

KickAssAngel · 29/07/2023 00:35

Checking in from somewhere with WiFi as still no power at home. I'm waiting to pick up pizza for Friday evening dinner.

I warn a good salary, although DH earns a lot more. Once DD was old enough that I didn't need to babysit her, I roughly worked out how much spending money I would have if I were single. DH and I have always just pulled out money, but I don't want to spend everything he earns. Anyway, I worked out a rough amount per month that would be my spending money if I were living alone, and then I allow myself that.

Today I just booked my 4th laser treatment for a couple of weeks from now. I stopped buying myself lunch to cover the cost of some treatments as I really want to get my skin looking better. I think it's better than it was last year, but I shall have to be careful with what products I put on it as obviously something irritated it.

Btw, it is hot and humid here, with more storms likely. I am longing for some British weather.

Experiment627 · 29/07/2023 05:37

@KickAssAngel really hope power is restored soon! I know we live to complain about the weather in Blighty but right now I am quite grateful for it!
What kind of laser treatment are you having done?
I had hair removal done of puts and bikini line about 15 years ago... I am thinking do re-do and add in face & legs...

OP posts:
KickAssAngel · 29/07/2023 05:45

I have power back! Internet! yippee

I'm getting aerolase on the skin for getting rid of redness/age spots etc.

The first time I had it done, some of my age spots actually blistered up and then peeled. They are much, much lighter now.

Peridot1 · 29/07/2023 08:19

@KickAssAngel - I used to live in Asia and so remember the days of power cuts and humidity! Would swap now as I’m fed up with the weather here in UK at the moment!

I had laser last year for age spots and redness too. It helped a bit. I’m now having Hydra Facials once a month and a course of three micro needling treatments. My mum died in 2016 and I got some money and then dad died two years ago and I inherited some more so I’m using some of that. My mum was really into skin care and would have been all over every and any treatment she could have. When we were clearing out the house we found a little collection of stuff she had cut out of magazines recommending various skin care products. So now my mantra is “What Would Sheila Do?” And Sheila definitely loved a good GWP!

FiveShelties · 29/07/2023 10:28

I also love the different seasons, but don't think I will ever get used to winter in June, July and August as we do here in NZ. And Christmas in summer is just weird. This morning we had a Frost but by lunchtime it was around 16C so very different from Lancashire winters.

FiveShelties · 29/07/2023 10:47

Sorry posted too soon. We don't have AC here, but I usually stock up on my visits back to UK. I think my next trip back home will be the last as I empty my Mum's house ready for sale. I do have the odd item there so that should add to the stash a little.

I have three empties - No 7 Airbrush Away Primer, lots more primers so no need to repurchase.
Shay & Blue Black Tulip perfume which I really like and will repurchase when back in UK.
Sukin Body Lotion Lime And Coconut, lasted for ages and did the job, good to use and sinks in quickly. Really inexpensive too.

56 down out if target of 96 so I am winning. Still around 250 things left, oh dear!

Experiment627 · 29/07/2023 13:44

@Peridot1 what a lovely way to honour your parents xxx

Feelingsurreal · 29/07/2023 18:24

What a lovely thread, can I join in please? I have a very large stash, and historically I start new products and then move on to another new one but not any more! I spent a ridiculous amount on Black Friday last year (embarrassed to say several hundred pounds) but the plus side is, it is making me use products from start to finish, and I haven't needed to buy any new skincare since then. I've only recently started to keep empties, but am determined to really work out what works for me and then I can restock on Black Friday this year.

In the photo:

Eve Lom facial spray - I loved this.

Eve Lom lip balm - loved this too, although was a little thin and effects didn't last so long, but does feel nice on application.

Charlotte Tilbury magic cream - I'm with the crowd, it is great.

Tatcha moisturiser (I think I actually bought this in Sephora in NYC not on Black Friday), I loved it. I have very dry skin and this and the CT both suit my skin v well.

Erborian BB Creme - this is my favourite erborian product I think. I have 2 more small tubes of their CC creme but am making myself finish them before I'm allowed to replace this one!

Perfidot, what do you think of the micro needling and hydra facials? Are they worth it?

Sorry to hear about losing your parents. My Dad passed nearly 2 years ago and my Mum isn't in good health. It's actually looking at my Mum and her disabilities that's making me work on weight, fitness and trying to attain a healthy glow. My entire family is too prone to food treats, and I'm trying to replace that habit with self care, beauty/fitness treats.

Sadly, you have to forego a lot of candy bars to pay for one round of lip filler.

Btw, I'm in the American Midwest, not Asia, someone else is Asia. I'm up near Canada so will have a proper winter to protect my skin from.

IndianSummer78 · 29/07/2023 20:22

No empties but my beauty boxes came 🥰. They remain unopened because I have literally nowhere in my bathroom to put more stash, so they're on a shelf with the shelf contents on top of them. It's like some special kind of torture but I must use up some other things first so there's room in the drawers

Peridot1 · 29/07/2023 21:58

@KickAssAngel - sorry I think I mixed you up with someone else and then you mentioned a power cut I think which made me confused! American Midwest is on my bucket list for a trip.

Re the hydra facials and micro needling - jury is out so far but I think I see a difference. I have had two micro needling treatments so far with one to go. Have developed some little red bumps on one side of my face since the last treatment so hoping they dissipate.

@Experiment627 - I’m not sure my dad would agree but would probably just say I was definitely my mother’s daughter!

@Feelingsurreal - I like the Erborian red correct a lot. And have the Tatcha in my stash.

Feelingsurreal · 29/07/2023 22:43

Thank you :)

@Peridot1 Now I need to find out what the erborian red correct is, and I'm not meant to be buying anything new until my stocks have depleted!

Am tempted, but not yet convinced, to do a stock count. Do hair products count - they would double the count - I have curly hair and it takes an awful lot of time and attention!!

KickAssAngel · 30/07/2023 02:39

Oh no! Don't count hair things I've still got foils and brushes from DH doing my highlights during COVID.

Plus, I've got slightly wavy hair and i've tried everything to get it to curl more, so there's a lot of mousse, gel, styling stuff, spray, curlers etc that I use once in a blue moon. Then I give up and pay$$$ at a salon to have it curled.
