Going strong for more than 8 years! Full of great reviews, reports of empties and despair over our ever growing stashes!

Just a tip for eyeshadows that seem to give up the ghost near the end - wet the brush (saliva will do) and you often get a stronger effect. Many/most (even all?) powder eyeshadows look different when applied with a dampened brush.

MavisMcMinty · 17/07/2023 13:23

…I use a damp liner brush to line my eyes with gorgeous eyeshadow colours, as the only liners in beauty boxes are black and too harsh/hard for me.

loz12345 · 17/07/2023 17:27

I have some empties just in time for them to
be replaced by the things I get from the liberty beauty drop later this week.

16: Neals Yard Bee Lovely hand cream - this is a really nice light hand cream - great for summer - however I know they are an mlm so wouldn’t rp for that reason only have as from a beauty box.

17: tiny sample of moon carnival - lovely long lasting considering using beauty drop money for this rather than advent as planned

18: Shay & Blue black tulip - really lovely just not long lasting enough so won’t rp

19: virtue hair scrub - l really liked this but it is quite expensive so will look for a similar product or rp when on offer

I've finished a Dove revitalizing body wash that was a Christmas gift last year I think. It was ok but I'm a bit over body washes with high moisturiser content, I don't think it dose my backney any good.

Next to use is an M&S daisy scented one which came from a gift set this year, so far smells lovely. I've just got mini's to use after this.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 18/07/2023 13:09

@loz12345 I love the Shay and Blue black tulip as well, but agree it doesn't last. If anyone has a dupe suggestion I would love to hear it!

MavisMcMinty · 18/07/2023 13:23

I spent two hours today using various exfoliators and masks, including two pairs of eye masks, one set on my lids and one set underneath, a turmeric face sheet mask, followed by a cocktail of three serums, an eye cream and SPF over the top.

My skin feels like glass!

Experiment627 · 18/07/2023 16:48

@LivingDeadGirlUK well done on the shower gel front!
Arrn't Shay and Blue dupes for ofher scents? I may be confused... Eden definitely are.

@MavisMcMinty what a marvellous pamper sesh!

I felt guilty because last night I went to bed without cleansing, didn’t even stick any moisturiser on top of what was left from the day.

Fraaahnces · 19/07/2023 04:13

I have decided to see if I can make up another “advent calendar” for a friend who has terrible COVID and is having relationship problems.

loz12345 · 19/07/2023 08:24

@Experiment627 I don’t think Shay and Blue are dupes after looking on their website - they smell lovely but unfortunately no staying power. I was looking for an alternative to floral street vanilla orchid as I want something different but unfortunately that wasn’t it

Experiment627 · 19/07/2023 08:59

@Fraaahnces that is a lovely thing to do.

@loz12345 sorry... think I got confused with Eden

Hello, I've been aware of your threads but not really read them as I've never wanted to tackle my stash.

Well I'm off work after an illness and I want to make some big changes. I haven't even got all my stash in one place, so I guess that's where I'll start.

I feel a bit sad when I see unopened stuff that's out of date. Anyway, I've decided that I'm going to give a load of stuff to my sister when I see her next week.

Ha! I've just had a notification that some lovelies from Elizabeth Arden are out for delivery today. 🤣🤣🤣

I'm not ordering anything else now 🤞.
Will check back in with my progress report.

Peridot1 · 19/07/2023 14:20

I have an empty! Although I forgot to take a picture. Bottle of Kerastase shampoo finished.

I know what you mean @BerfyTigot about not wanting to tackle the stash. Every January I say I’m not buying anything for the year and every year I fail. I know I have a few things I’m not keen on so I think I’m going to be a bit ruthless and get rid.

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 14:53

My stash and my out of control wardrobe are all piled higgledy-piggledy on every surface in the spare bedroom. To tackle one would mean having to tackle the other at the same time. IT’S TOO OVERWHELMING.

listsandbudgets · 19/07/2023 21:31

@peridot1 I was so proud of myself this year because apart from BD, some shampoo for DD and some deodorant for me I managed to hold back from buying anything until June when I broke and bought the M&S beauty box followed by Jet Set and Scent with Love !! It did make a dip in the collection but there's still so much Blush

Peridot1 · 19/07/2023 21:37

That sounds like you did really well @listsandbudgets! Waaaayyyy better than me!

@MavisMcMinty - that sounds very like my room!

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 21:52

I’m relieved to hear I’m not alone. I really need a critical family member to come and stay, make me tidy it all up before they arrive (I’m brilliant at it when forced to do it) then greet them with an artful “sorry it’s such a mess!” even though it’s never been more immaculate.

BerfyTigot · 19/07/2023 22:07

So this evening I have finished a bag of bath salts - whoop whoop! I was sick of them taking up space on the side of the bath.
I long to get to a stage where I have one shampoo, one shower gel etc. Sadly I'm a long way off!

What do people think of as a 'normal' number of things to own?

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 22:14

At least a dozen of each item is normal, isn’t it?

To think just 7 years ago before I retired I had one cleanser, one toner and one moisturiser, all L’Oréal, all bought at the supermarket. I did joke to a colleague that I’d start a “proper skincare regime” when I retired, but didn’t think it would lead to this obsession. Don’t think I should ever have any cosmetic surgery, I might not be able to stop and would end up like the Bride of Wildenstein.

BerfyTigot · 19/07/2023 23:12

@MavisMcMinty yes, that's about the number that I currently own!

Have realised that actually I'd prefer to have 2 (or 3 max) of everything, which seems a much more achievable goal to aim for.

KickAssAngel · 20/07/2023 01:36

hmm, well, I have about 30 nail varnishes. 50% of them are Chanel. I do use them all, though, so can't get rid of any!

IndianSummer78 · 20/07/2023 01:40

@BerfyTigot I'm aiming for one in use and one spare of everything. The odd extra thing if it's my birthday gift or something. That's enough. I am at least getting through my stash. I've got too much of everything though, especially clothes.

BerfyTigot · 20/07/2023 05:41

@KickAssAngel I wouldn't mind about small things like nail varnishes. They're easily stored and don't take up too much space, and like you say, you do actually use them all!

For me it's the bath and shower products (because I need to stay clean, right😄) and the "gifts with purchase" which I'm a sucker for, which have got out of hand.

@IndianSummer78 oh, please don't get me started on clothes...
