Going strong for more than 8 years! Full of great reviews, reports of empties and despair over our ever growing stashes!

Thanks @Peridot1 I'll check it out.

MavisMcMinty · 30/07/2023 17:49

Ooh, that’s interesting, @Peridot1 ! I have a nice big bottle of Aveeno Soothing Oat Toning Lotion, it’s more viscous than my usual Elemis toners, more like a serum, I tend to put it in my palms and pat it on rather than use pads, so it’s lasted for ages. Gonna try that method, think the Aveeno will be perfect.

Experiment627 · 30/07/2023 19:19

OMG @Peridot1 how did I not know about the 7 Skins!!! I have just tried with the Hada Labo lotion thing - my skin feels hamazing!
I am using the HL range available in Superdrug. I suspect @Fraaahnces is using superior HL.

I didn't know about throwing out mascara after 3 months. Is that just a thing invented by the manufacturers? If that is the case, I need to just throw mine out and start again as they are all open and older than that, so I have an excuse to get an eyeko mascara.

I'm reading the 7 skin method - thank you @Peridot1 The only thing I have that I could maybe use for this is the Dr Frances Prenna Jones universal formula. It was a v expensive purchase, and I have no idea if it is even making a difference. Maybe if I try this with it, I'll notice either way...

OchonAgusOchonOh · 30/07/2023 20:33

@Feelingsurreal it's just a nonsense put out by the manufacturers. Mine are binned when they are finished, which can be over a year. I've never had an eye problem from that.

MavisMcMinty · 30/07/2023 20:37

Yeah, I learnt about the mascara 3-month rule only a few years ago from a colleague who’d been a practice nurse previously. I said “what about if you’ve only used it a few times?” and she was very firm it should be thrown away nonetheless. Bollocks to that, I kept using mine until they were dry and never suffered an eye infection. These days I’d be throwing them away after a single use, I wear it so seldom!

IndianSummer78 · 30/07/2023 21:27

I use mascara until they're dry too.

I never understood the love for soap feeling surreal so I don't think you're missing out. If you use hand soap it gets used so often it sits on the side of the sink going gloopy on the bottom which is not only disgusting but leaves a caked on mess to scrub off on cleaning day. If you use it in the bath/shower there's not quite so much of a gloopy mess on the bottom because it gets s chance to dry out between uses. My main complaint though is I find it just doesn't clean well. Towelling myself afterwards I'll be covered in pilling of what I'm guessing is a mixture of dead skin and left over body lotion. Nice. I've no idea what these people are doing who insist soap cleans better than shower gel, that's not my experience at all. Maybe it's because I use body lotion daily due to eczema 🤷

Two empties. The mousse is good but I won't RP because it contains silicone and I have others just as good which don't. The curl cream I hate. It's packed full of silicone and does nasty things to my hair. It's so awful I can't even bring myself to use it up, it's getting binned half full

Feelingsurreal · 30/07/2023 21:53

ok, so I can't throw the mascaras all away and start again with eyeko lol!

@IndianSummer78 I use 2 different curl cremes, both of which I really like, one is Only Curls, and the other is Boucleme.

Minnie123456 · 30/07/2023 23:00

I haven't posted on here in ages but have been reading the thread. I've fallen back into the habit of not using my products and keeping them for special occasions, which is silly as I have so much of everything. I would love to do an inventory but i'm afraid to find out how much of everything I actually have although it might stop me hoarding everything🙈

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants a fragrance calendar sounds amazing, not that I need anymore perfume. I was a little bit naughty on holiday- I treated myself to two bottles- Nina Ricci from the resort and Good Girl Blush from duty free on the plane. I also got a free sample of Coco Mademoiselle perfume when I bought the Nina Ricci.

I have a couple of empties:
Coco Mademoiselle soap bar- I was so excited to use this as this is one of my favourite fragrances but I was left disappointed. The fragrance only lasted a few uses then it just smelt like soap. It did lather up nicely and left my skin soft though.
Cien Q10 intense night cream- didn't like this at all, it was hard to rub in,don't think I would rp.
The BS Ginger Shampoo- I got this after hearing good review, it kept my scalp flake free but I felt it dried out my hair abit.
Batiste original dry shampoo mini- It was ok, don't think it does much for my greasy hair though.

@OchonAgusOchonOh when did I miss the fragrance calendar? I would love one!

On another note I purchased the summer calendar from rituals at a very good price as it is discounted 30% in Spain.
I am also treating myself to a few perfumes while in here as they tend to be cheaper. Not that I need them though.

I might try to use the 7 skin method I knew nothing about to use up my toners quicker and reduce my inventory.

I have a few empties that I will post tomorrow with a picture.

Huggies wipes is a staple and I love them.

Bonté by Clarel rosehip shower gel smells amazing. Costs peanuts and leaves my skin feeling refreshed. This is last year’s bottle. They have updated the format but it smells the same.

Tresemmé sleek conditioner. This bottle is 3 years old and it has taken me some time to go through it. Leaves my hair ok but I won’t repurchase for the time being.

Nenuco shower gel. Lovely smell that reminds me of my childhood and I use it for DDs . I love it and would RP. People should try it :)

Piz buin tanning accelerator or something similar to this Spf 6. I had a little bit to use up. I am white as milk and I would burn if I used it on its own. I used it after applying my spf 50. Won’t RP for sure but the smell is awesome.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 31/07/2023 00:26

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel I think Liberty did a fragrance one last year but I'm not sure. I have way too much perfume to even consider that.

Fraaahnces · 31/07/2023 01:06

@Experiment627 Never fear… All of the HL products are amazing! Just some have different actives. I know that there is HL for the UK market, and I haven’t tried that one. The original HL has lots of ranges. Red for aging, Blue for redness, etc. They all work together. Some of the red products contain Alpha Arbutin (for pigmentation) and Mild retinol. The Blie has tranexamic acid which works so well for broken capillaries. All have the same super base of HL goop.

MavisMcMinty · 31/07/2023 01:23

I’ve applied my first dose of toner and will apply the next in a couple of minutes. Very excited for this experiment!

Experiment627 · 31/07/2023 05:22

The thing is @Fraaahnces I tried the UK HL a few years ago & was not that impressed... but decided to revisit & include more of the range. It is a bit too soon to give a verdict on the creams but I can say definitively I am bot a fan of the cleanser - yes I should not have used on eyes, that was my bad, but I find it drying and not that pleasant to use. Hopefully the 7 skins thing will give more positive results. The products I have are the goop plus retinol & collagen.

What I will say in their favour though is that they are a thing of beauty on my bathroom shelf 🤣🤣🤣

Photo here - sorry could not figure out how to get thr right way round.

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel - just be careful that the toners you are using for 7 skins are hydrating and not ones with any actives in them.

Hopefully I haven’t been responsible for too much buying in of new things and enabled any of you!

You can also use any hydrating facial mist too. I think I mentioned I was trying to use up some Beauty Pie products and wasn’t finding them hydrating enough so I’m using the Japanfusion mist in between each layer of product which seems to help.

I tried the Hada Lobo from Superdrug when it first launched here in the UK and found it ok. Never repurchased as had enough stuff to use up. I wanted to try the original one as I had read some people say it was better. Other nice Korean toners/essences are Dear Klairs and Pyunkang Yul. They are available from Amazon. My purchases yesterday were from YesStyle.

@IndianSummer78 - I’ve never found that with soap. I find it cleans better. Other than Dove which isn’t a soap. I still use hand wash by the sinks as I agree soap can go yucky there but definitely prefer soap in the shower. Funny how we are all different!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 31/07/2023 08:22

@Minnie123456 I'm waiting for the fragrance advent, as I really can't justify adding to my stash with the normal Liberty AC, and DH buys it for me as part of Crimbo, and I don't want to miss out cos I'm such a child I've always preferred the original Coco, but I understand that they have changed the formula not too long ago, presumably to make it cheaper, and it actually doesn't smell the same for me. Also, my sense of smell whilst never great, has not recovered properly after covid, so I am half heartedly looking for a new signature scent. Ideally from Liberty, to use my BD credit wisely.
@Peridot1 I tried the 7 skin thing last night ok the 3 version with an Emma Hardie serum/toner thing, which I may have got in the AC or possibly BD. It does seem like a good idea, and it has helped me use up some product, as I have a few in my stash, and I don't want them to go off, as I'm unsure when I got them all .
@Experiment627 I am in awe of your colour co-ordination, and my bathroom is jealous of your interior design/lifestyle influence skill! Grin

I sencond and tenth everyone who says yes, just use your mascara until it's done. Never had any problem with eye infection either.

Experiment627 · 31/07/2023 08:43

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants 🤣🤣🤣 that was a carefully curated shot!! My interior design skills are woefully lacking and I have clutter EVERYWHERE!

OP posts:
Minnie123456 · 31/07/2023 10:59

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants I didn't know they changed the formula. I wore coco on my wedding day and fell in love with it then, hopefully it doesn't smell too different for me. Although goodness knows when I will actually use it as I have bottles in my stash that are years old 🙈

OchonAgusOchonOh · 31/07/2023 11:14

I have one more empty that I dumped before I finished it. I also forgot to take a photo.

The Ordinary Silicone primer. It was awful. My makeup just pilled on top of it, regardless of what I put under or over it. The worst part is, for some insane reason (possibly to get free postage) I bought two of them so I have another one in my stash. I'll try and offload it on dd when she's home next.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 31/07/2023 13:18

Ooh. That looks interesting. I was half hoping they didn't have it in Ireland to prevent me giving in to temptation but they do.

Quick question for @Peridot1 Would the Origins Toner Treatment Lotion in the box work for the 7 layers? ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Reishi Mushroom, Fermented Chaga mushroom, Adaptogenic liquorice root and plant derived hyaluronic acid

IndianSummer78 · 31/07/2023 13:33

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy beauty boxes online with the Boots points on the Advantage Card?

If you have enough points, you should be able to use them to buy them.

MavisMcMinty · 31/07/2023 13:37

I should think so, @IndianSummer78 !
