WEEK ONE AGAIN of www's six week 10year younger bootcamp, Feb/March 08

Welcome to week 1 of the second WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

And as we've had half term and many of us have been lax, this thread is SERIOUS.

www - glad you're speaking to your sister again.

ureb - sympathy for the cold/cough, I hate it when they linger on and on.

l&s - is bad spelling The Grauniad or The Inpediment? Too many to chose from these days.

School began for us today so 13,200 steps and far too much mucking out and moving haybales. DH in town so I still need to go out and do bedtime hay and shut hens up etc. Sciatica not good and still no physio appointment.

I have eaten toast & marmite, orange juice & iron supplement, one coffee, cheese & avocado salad with crackers, apple, raisins, chicken soup & hot crusty bread, strawberries & cream (unseasonal imports but DCs chose). Over a litre of water but very thirsty so will drink at least 2 more glasses today.

I'd really like a bath, hairwash and moisturising session tonight but after the chores I'm not sure I'll still be awake! Ah well, haybarn here I come...

WideWebWitch · 26/02/2008 20:08

unknown, 10lb + ewwww
well done on no booze + exercise

kidsrus, that's good though, if it's 1 walk you wouldn't have done without this thread

Batters, snort with you at the idea of you and dd in same clothes, with you in heelies perhaps? Was it the same dodgy woman I got pissed with a few weeks ago? Yes, where are Sobernow and Winnie and Bundle and Puddle and Dingle (I haven't imagined Dingle have I?)

Ah Winnie, there you are, yes, get online at home. Or delegate some bloody work or something so you can join us!

Yoyo, my Moron needs batteries too. Sounds like a good day, well done

Lol L&S at invading a small country. Ah, the Graun then...we are looking forward to your baby on this thread and DofN's!

feetheart, fab walking, well done. Me too on not lovingh babies enough to remotely want another one. No Way.

Moonshine, surely you've eaten well etc if you're doing Cambridge? Dr Feelgood, is that the powder type stuff that isn't powder but makes you look smoother? If so I thought that was cracking too, don't know what happened to mine, must get some more.

Oh Iota, no, you can't go to the gym if you're working. But I do find workibng easier from an eating less pov. Mostly. Are you looking forward to it?

Choc raisins aren't so bad unknown!

DofN, that's healthy food and loads of steps esp for an up the duffer, well done!

I have to ask for 6 small squares of G&Bs butterscotch chocolate to be taken into consideration last night

today
a banana
2 pieces toast, Marmite, butter
grapes
egg mayo sandwich but was starving at 11.45, prob due to waking at 5.45, do you find this Batters?
another egg mayo sandwich at 2.30 as still starving, 350 cals
some fruit and nuts from the stall at Euston, honey covered pecans, yum and some cranberries and other berries. Not unfattening but at least some nutrition there
a poussin marinated by dh
plenty of water
sunscreen applied at 6.30am on train, hmm
walking on commute, didn't walk down tcr today as it was drizzly at 7.30am when my train got in
am KNACKERED as didn't go to bed til 10.45 last night, which is TOO LATE
but this is day 3 of no wine and I feel tons better for it, I have to say.
Feeling very happy, work is fine, like my boss, laughed a bit today, am so busy the day FLIES by

Didn't get other job and fired off brief stroppy email to agency saying "can you please tell me whether the male candidates were asked about the ages of their children, their childcare arrangements and their back up plans please? In 2008 and given the existing legislation I was most surprised to be asked these questions. I'd appreciate your thoguhts" Not surprisingly I didn't get a reply. Dh calmed me via email and said "use your considerble energy ELSEWHERE, don't waste your time on these people" so I have left it and won't pursue it but it PISSES ME OFF. Discrimination is indeed alive and well.
Wanker, probably would have been a cnt to work for anyway.

Still happy, despite that this morning. And it wasn't any more convenient commute wise.

Roll on the weekend and getting my hands on that baybee

How do, all
Am bug-eyed from re-creating a year's worth of database user records in just under ten hours so happiness is at levels
Just 4000 transaction reports and about 2000 detailed bibliographic records to go
We know how and why it happened now
So yes, those kilos keep trundling off
And thanks for kind thoughts but am eating properly, just less than otherwise would. Will fess up now and admit that a week ago GP prescribed me an appetite suppressant to help me with comfort eating issues, and it is working
Today: Special K & skimmed milk; lots of water; Count on Us tomato and spinach salad, tub of mango; Special K muesli bar thing (like fruit-flavoured toenail clippings ); small portion of wholemeal pasta with tuna and tomato sauce & plain hot cross bun. Will have banana later. That's a splendid day for me and the eighth in a row.
Cream yy, water yy, walking, no dice, have been frantically data-crunching and trying to get colleagues to stop rending garments
Congratulations on being an aunt again www and how lovely it has brought you and your other sis back together again - and yes please to that document. Sorry about the job though, bet he had a minute and floppy penis
Yoyo, a warm welcome back, good to see you posting again and sorry to hear the past few months have been dire at times
The annoying cleak thread did go, into the bin at MNHQ with any amount of bickering and abusive handbagging on the site at large today I think we are well within our rights to lurk round our fountain of youth and confine ourselves to gentle ribbing about DVDs no I haven't prufrock
And it's always good to hear about voyeuristic Polish builders, little inept Goths (dd is going to be a hugely unconvincing Chinese maiden in a dance spectacular this weekend) and all the joys of day to day life in Bootcamp
Glad you are feeling better batters but I will have to break off here for a five-minute hate of LAS, who has My Dream Job and once I have done that I can wave to everyone and totter off to bed early, my brain is fried and tomorrow I have to stand up in an echoey room in front of heaps of pissed-off people and say, A big boy did it and ran away

I think it's not just that looking after oneself physically helps one menatlly, but also that if you are feeling crap mentaly being able to give yourlsef a pat on the back fo at leat being good at footcream gives one an ego boost.

feetheart - I now make body brushing and application of sunscreen (well, moisturiser with spf) the very first thing I do each morning after waking up kids. (I go to school smelly and shower later). I leave my brush/moisturiser by my bed.

www - excellent news about your sister. Do you think she will actually manage to be nice this time or will you be not talking again soon? I would like to think that in your situation I would copy a more polite version of your e-mail to the co's head of HR, in the spirit of feminist equality. But I would probably just do nothing in case I pissed people off and threatened future opportunities.

Marina how boring. Can you not farm it out to an underling?

Prufrock · 26/02/2008 23:01

Sunscreen. Tick
No booze. Tick
2l Water. Tick
Body cream. No
Hand cream. Tick - and had a manicure, with my own nails, not false acrylics - I can?t be bothered with the upkeep anymore and my own have finally grown after 30 years of biting them
Foot cream. No
Bed early. Obviously not - though will go up when I?ve posted this
Exercise Did a 30 minute amble/throwing of toys with dogs, and ambled to school and back this pm. 20 minutes cardio, and 100 situps, will do yoga in a minute.
Eat healthily Granola and skimmed milk for breakfast, 3 cups coffee, 2 pitta stuffed with taramasalata, lettuce and cucumber for lunch. Dried Apricots. Missed dinner as I had to rush out, but still resisted chocolate biscuits at bridge club and just had a camomile tea. Very small bowl beef curry when I got back.

Prufrock · 26/02/2008 23:02

Be happy Oh Yes. Bridge club tonight - Bid a foolhardy bold 5 Diamonds and made it, when everyone else had gone 3 and only made one over. And found out that my friend and I had come 2nd out of 13 last time, which is amazing seeing as all these people are over 60 and play at least 3 times a week, and we have only been playing soberly properly for 3 months.

bundle · 26/02/2008 23:11

Hello everyone

I am ILL

borderline cold/flu PLUS chest infection (have been coughing for 3 weeks and today puked up my lunch after heavy bout of coughing )

so that's me and dd1 on ab's and dd2 has transient high temp/cough/snotty nose

bootcamping suspended

although obv not on booze..

lol @ sober bridge pru
good for you marina!
and big congrats to www's new niece (assuming not the sis i met)

am going to spend day in bed tomorrow and be dormouse

kidsrus · 26/02/2008 23:21

((((((((((((((((bundle)))))))))))))))))))))))
hope you feel better soon.
bootcamp not too bad apart from the pack of pink wafers tonight.

bamamama · 27/02/2008 00:21

Hello all. Despite no-one missing me I'm back and free of MIL. Hurraah.

Just caught up with the last couple of threads whilst eating toast and peanut butter so I obviously have some bootcamping to do. Have spent the last couple of weeks having a minimum of 1 cake a day so now feel awash with sugar and generally terrible (the small lake of wine didn't help either). Still, the visit is now over and life can return to normal. MIL bought me some L'Occitane verbena hand cream which is lovely so I can incorporate that into my bootcamping.

Congrats on neice www, hope work begins to get better soon Marina, hope everyone else is ok (busy thread too many to mention!).

Right, I have an essay due and I haven't started it - must go and do some blardy work!

marina · 27/02/2008 10:16

Wafers hardly count, kidsrus, they are as light as a feather
We did miss you bama glad you are MIL free now, that must have upped the happiness stakes
Poor bundy, hope you feel better soon missus - dh and ds both had that chest infection, it's a horror
And feel-better soon vibes heading to duchess and ureb too
Prufrock, dear, I don't have underlings, I work in local government I have team members and we are all in it up to our necks (apart from 5 mins break from Excel at this mo)
Bootcamping on track though. Possibly prospect of weigh-in with GP in three weeks time is a whopping incentive

cerys · 27/02/2008 12:36

hello all! Congratulations on the new niece, WWW.

My kitchen floor is now officially a health hazard and I am a slattern, but playing with DS is a far more appealing prospect this afternoon.

Mumsnet is really strange at the moment. I have hidden half the topics and horrid threads still keep popping up.

Ordered a mug for my mum for Sunday - it arrived with no protective wrapping and is in 100 shattered pieces . Grrr.

I have just eaten a M&S pain aux raisins and it was bloody lovely . Off to make something healthy for lunch now.

LoveAndSqualor · 27/02/2008 12:44

Afternoon all,

Duchess, www - graun it is (though obviously my own spelling is always impeccable )

bamamama, welcome back! glad the MIL is now but a memory ...

Prufrock, 5 diamonds! I am most impressed.

and bundle, v sorry to hear about the illness. I did that coughing/throwing up thing last eyar when I had a chest infection and it is grim. bad luck - hope antibs clear it up pronto ...

Well, I am feeling v on happiness today after horrible night of waking up at two in the morning and weeping all over DP/bed for two hours (what a waste!) about impending everything. Can I blame hormones, do you think? Seem to have spent the last week either in tears or on the verge of tears (particularly embarrassing when in the office). It is exhausting!

Otherwise, fairly healthy - veg soup and wholemeal bread for dinner last night (perhaps I was crying because I was hungry), toast and a banana this morning, and have just had a cheese sandwich. Think I need something more though, so will go on the scavenge in a minute. Have ante-natal class tonight and I Cannot Be Bothered to go, buy hey ho.

Missed all the MN palaver yesterday, btw - what happened? who was rowing about what? and why? Answers on a (massive) postcard ...

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 27/02/2008 19:48

Can I join in please? Holiday booked so need a boost. Can I sustain it for 5 months 'til we go though? And I need to lose half a stone.

-Sunscreen - proper sunscreen or a moisturiser thingy - rcommendations please?

  • Booze - I'll do me best
  • Walking - I've done an hour today, did a class Monday and will run tomorrow.
  • Water - must do better
  • Apply body cream as often as possible - check
  • Use hand cream/foot cream - I have my Flexitol
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if possible - no trouble with this one
  • Eat healthily - yes boss
  • Be happy - I am (well most of the time)
WideWebWitch · 27/02/2008 19:51

Marina, also sniggering at small penis comment but sorry work is so terrible, that sounds tedious in the extreme. Why did it happen then? Do you have a fuckwit all of your very own perchance? Sympathy anyway. (but admiring glance at the weight loss )

Batters, you so do not have to strip off to join a gym! No idea what rest of mn is like atm, barely have time to go there.

Prufrock, agree about it making us feel better. No idea about sister and I, we fall out regularly but maybe we won't this time. We are all going to see other sister's baby at weekend and dh, quite rightly said "NO, let's NOT stay the night, your family are fine in small doses and you are only just talking to x again so let's not push it" He's right, of course. And can't be arsed about email and discretion is sometimes the better part of valour etc so I will focus my energy on other stuff. Wow, nice to hear about your nails Prufrock (remember my backtracking on acrylics after you said you had them? ) Great on exercise, food and no booze front. Congrats on bridge. I think

Bundle, that sounds horrible, I hope you and your girls all feel better soon. No, is other sister. Sister you met is the one I am only just speaking to again.

Bama, we DID miss you, we did! Welcome back! And you needed sugar and wine due to MIL so never mind, we'll draw a veil.

Kidsrus, wafers, wafers? they are not serious deviation, agree

Cerys, otoh, pain au raisin IS serious deviation! Stupid mug people, do they not realise these things break?

L&S, you can indeed blame hormones, absolutely. I was VERY hormonal when pg with dd, threw glasses and all sorts. Poor dh was beside himself wondering where the real me had gone. I didn't go to any ante natal classes with either baby so you are most def excused if you can't be arsed. The hormones may be with you for a while yet...but I hope you get some sleep tonight.

Batters, 14000, v v good. Oh good, Torchwood, had forgotten.

Lulumama · 27/02/2008 19:54

too shy to join, but would like to say i bought a tube of flexitol and it is amaaaaaaaazing ! am very impressed. than kyou !

WideWebWitch · 27/02/2008 19:57

I am almost crying with tiredness today. Had a lie in til 6.30am but interrupted night due to dd waking and coming in with us. Was supposed to work til 6.30ish due to late start + long lunch but felt faint about 5 and left work. Still didn';t get in til just gone 7pm.

This morning I walked down TCR, lovely walk, what a fabulous day BUT I left home at 7.20am this morning and didn't get to work til 9.35am so - I haven't really got time to walk so I think I must continue getting an earlier train that gets me in before the victoria line at Euston is too terrible. So 5.45am wake up for me for the foreseeable and STILL won't get in until 7pm...

So, I didn't manage to eat ANYTHING til about 10.35 am, which is NOT GOOD, esp as last thing I had was poussin at 8ish last night. Anyway

2 pieces of toast with Marmite
apple
banana
egg mayo sandwich, 350 cals
met a dodgy woman for lunch and had 4 tiny pieces of salami, small piece of bread
banana
and came in to cod wrapped in proscuitto with green beans
am still hungry, not surprisingly so will have some G&Bs butterscotch with Torchwood
used sunscreen
drank enough water
and WILL be in bed at 10pm latest

Happy? Hmm. I need to be less knackered to be happy I think. But other than that, yes, I am.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 27/02/2008 19:58

bundle · 27/02/2008 20:01

www what a horrid day
glad you're talking to your sister again, I haven't seen her in ages.
today feeling pretty achey all over and have only been up out of bed for last couple of hrs. had to get dh home to look after dd2 as I was really struggling with her lunch etc.
looking forward to celeb masterchef..then more sleep! x

Lulumama · 27/02/2008 20:01

ok, do i need to update every day or once a week? have started walking a bit...no booze in the week will be hard.. will be making detox soup again tomorrow
am a bit at the size of my behind though!

ChutneyMary · 27/02/2008 20:02

Hello girls

Just a quick one from me as I am shattered and strangely tearful tonight. DD1 has wailed from nursery to home, DD2 bit me, my SIL has berated me for not returning her call from 8pm last night (WTF - I'm busy, love) and DH is out on the lash. I am going downstairs for a drink so I hope that there is some secreted somewhere.

Have skimmed thread. Congratulations on the new baby WWW. L&S, hormonal rushes and extra emotions de rigeur now. Just wait til you're sobbing because of some daft ad on the telly. All will be well. Huge healing vibes to poor Bundy. I have a very ample bosom should you need to rest your weary head on it. Kidsrus, wafers 99% air so completely OK. Marina, it sounds terrible at work at the moment, so hope you can get through it, your poor thing. Hello to everyone else and welcome Saggars.

Off in search of booze. can feel my grip on the wagon loosening gently. See you tomorrow

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 27/02/2008 20:07

Thank you www. 6 stone is a massive (pardon the pun) achievement!

It'll be good for me to check in everyday. The main thing is the exercise and the water for me I think. I'm at that age - changing shape for no good reason despite my usual amount of exercise and I don't like it. Grrr>
